Why I am giving up on this game

Race 1 Belmont: Scav bet $200 Win on 6 and 6-.Holy Canyon exacta for $100 RESULT: Scav doesn't even get 2 seconds of entertainment as the 6 looks like the lone ranger out of the gate

Race 3 Arlington: Scav unloads on the 1 horse, who decided that on the final turn that he liked the FAR rail instead of the inside rail

Race 6 Churchill: Once out of money, Scav's play of the day (didn't tout but it was a horse I was keying on) Junior College (been scratched multiple times recently) wins and pays 16.60

The three above are just a couple experiences that include getting DQ'ed twice today and

Last night I went to OTB with a stack, first race at Hollywood, I played a $100 pick three 2/2,6/3,4....I just glanced at the PP's and the TG's and after the 2 won the first leg, I started looking at the race and BOOM the 4 is 3 pts faster then any of those rats, he goes and wins, the 4 wins the 3rd leg for a $48 per $1 or I cost myself $4800.....

If you are out of money halfway through the day, you should give up the game as something is seriously wrong with your plan/strategy for wagering.

I'm not trying to be an ass, just calling it like I see it. You know, hard love and all.

Scav 05-12-2007 05:11 PM

I know, which is why I think a 2 month break might be in order, get my mind/eyes right, just those three instances, zero control right now

Coach Pants 05-12-2007 05:14 PM

This is a game of peaks and valleys. If anyone tells you they don't spend time in the valley, they're probably a tout.

It'll turn around, scavs. Just think about the days where you murder 'em and how good it feels. In the meantime, get shi.tfaced tonight and try to score a howah or two.

Amen to that !!!!

Now That should be on a DT Shirt;)

AeWingnut 05-12-2007 06:01 PM

I've been in a valley ever since I put Vision and Verse on top of Lemon Drop Kid, Charismatic and Best of Luck. (I didn't think Menifee had the pedigree for the Belmont) with one little blip on Breeder's Cup day. Haven't had to sign a tax form for a year. Used to sign once a month.

I don't know if you are the kinda person that would be happy betting $1 exotics or not. That's all I do. I also quit going EVERY weekend. It may be harder to get a feel for a track but it's the cost of gas and all.

I do know one thing, a week feels like a month.

I think the title of this thread should be on the back of one of the Derby Trail shirts.....

Sage advice.

Get away from it for a bit Bro. Have some fun. Don't think about it. The magic will come back, but you can't force it.

When all else fails, practice some putting....:D

kenny p 05-12-2007 06:53 PM

Whatever you do Dont chase. Take a break, clear your head. then you will be ready for an assault on Saratoga. Good Luck KP

I was thinking a list of top ten quotes would be hilarious on the back of a DT shirt-
This is my last post

How about "Board Expert" or banned...lol

timmgirvan 05-12-2007 07:53 PM

Scavs: speaking from personal experience....the good thing about you is you're not timid about making a bet.....the downside is I think you plunge too much coin into your bets. I do exotics....a nice tribox or wheel is good to get! Many on DT do the pic3 and pick4 and are successful. So..maybe tri a new thing like the tri or 10exbox..or at least have a cap on your bet so it doesn't cripple you! You're the first guy to say hi to me on the old board..so I've got a soft spot(in the head) for your success. Just win, baby:D

Swale84 05-12-2007 08:01 PM

When the game becomes a grind and you start doubting yourself its time to take a break
Take some time off-don't look at entries or results (harder to do during the Triple Crown)
When you are ready you'll go back fresh and full of confidence again

whorstman 05-12-2007 08:41 PM

Dog, don't give up. Just start light and get some house money, then uncork.

Well, the game is a grind. That's not necessarily a bad thing however.

amen. any game where you pit your knowlege against other players will always be frustrating over periods of time. you aren't always the windshield.

Thank you everyone. I agree with everything that is said. Who knows where it will go from here, at least I am not playing/watching tomorrow because of mother's day, so I will get a good 8 days away from this crap, definetly needed

I do know that Scavs was on Junior College for Derby day. Something about setting really slow fractions.

Kev, not to take anything away from Junior College, but Rush Bay broke down shortly after the wire (torn suspensory ligament), I think it's safe to say it may have caused him to slow down the last 100 yards or so.

Giving up the game

Now getting back to the title of this thread, the reason I may be giving up the game:

Yesterday, had 8 out of 11 winners at Monmouth Park... still took an ass-kicking! The winners of the last 2 races were completely unplayable by my handicapping methods. The other race I lost, was the most important of the day, the final leg of what would have been a 4 figure pick four, and a 3 figure pick 3. If it weren't for bad luck the last 2 weeks, I'd have no luck at all:(

2MinsToPost 05-13-2007 07:56 AM

If you are serious about a break from the action, I would strongly recommend staying away from all things associated during that break. Lots of triggers.

Triggers meaning things that will get your attention and possibly cause you to dive back in. Such as drf.com, the track etc etc..

Very hard to do.

I would love to hear how you managed to turn 8 out of 11 winners into an ass kicking. Details please...

A quick rundown, because if I relived it in complete detail I might shoot myself:rolleyes: , but I'm not disciplined enough to just play my "main" track. So for every winner I had at Monmouth, I matched with losers at CD, Belmont, and Delaware (Delaware???). And none of the winners at Monmouth were over 4-1, which is the way Monmouth runs, which is why I stop playing Monmouth every year after opening day... and my 2-1's became 7-5 during the race.. but that's another story:mad:

1st race at Monmouth is a perfect example, as I posted, I came in to the race loving the 4 horse, with the 7 horse as my second...well when it comes time to bet, I start looking at the 2, and then the 3, who is 25-1... so I end up playing 4-7 for $2 lousy, stinkin dollars:mad: ...(fighting back tears)... I can't continue this:o

haha, that's the perfect line in this instance, enough of this Johnny Fontane sniveling.

coolycatt 05-13-2007 09:42 AM

Jr. College...16.60....Was hard to figure that one out but after being scr'd multiple times to enter THAT race ( 1 mi. Turf) it appears the connections knew he was "well meant". You'd think a Turf 1st'er who was challenged by the classy 6 w/ Bejano aboard @ 6/5 would be dead meat to the wire....BUT I gave Jesus Castonon a lot of credit for sticking with his horse. I only saw the replay once..but it looked like Bejano put his whip away when he got a 1/2 length in front with short distance to go. When he glanced over and saw JR. had come back beside him....he tried to get the stick going again for more response but it was too late..... I love Bejarano...but I think he fell asleep and it cost him. Big props to Castanon for that W. I don't know a lot about that kid but I think he bears watching. I use him a lot and if he's on the board...the payoffs often put a BIG smile on my face if I catch.

No sh1t.

Scav channeling AJ on Sopranos. I'm hoping Vito Jr isn't next.

Taking a break won't help. Figuring out how betting $100 p-3's and straight $100 Ex's at Cal-Expo fit into his overall lifestyle might be better.

Let's all celebrate and go run a dozen red lights.
