Men/Women Guilty Pleasure Movies

Since the negativity is killing me around here today, a fun thread.

According to this study, the movies that men can watch over and over again are the Star Wars ones....For women, that old mainstay Dirty Dancing.

i think the makers of that movie should be shot. patrick swayze is horrible, as is jennifer gray. my daughter had it on the other day, i gave her so much grief she had to change the channel.

now, tombstone--if we flip thru channels and it's on, we'll watch it--jaws as well.

Rileyoriley 05-06-2007 12:13 PM

I can't stand "Dirty Dancing". My daughter and I like a good thriller. "Mindhunters was the most recent one we watched. Deb

Hickory Hill Hoff 05-06-2007 12:17 PM

Animal House, Blazing Saddles & Caddyshack

Seattleallstar 05-06-2007 01:03 PM

Steven Segal movies

Dudes, the thread is "Guilty Pleasures." If it's a good movie, it doesn't need to be guilty. I feel no shame over loving "Star Wars" and "Empire Strikes Back." Now, "The Phantom Menace"- that'd be a guilty pleasure if I liked it, which I don't.

I love "Dirty Dancing." Total guilty pleasure. Also, "Race With the Devil"- Loretta Swit and Peter Fonda on the run in a Winnebago from Redneck Satanists in Texas! Love it!

love those, have the first two on tape.

but i don't feel guilty watching them...gen is right, should be a cheesy movie.

but i'm not much of a movie fan...let me think of a movie that most wouldn't like....

well, i have to admit, i enjoy merchant/ivory productions, such as howards end.

I define "guilty pleasures" differently.

I define them as chick-flicks that guys like to watch, or action macho films that women like to watch. Or movies that you know are awful but you can't get enough of.

For me:
The Breakfast Club, Bend it like Beckham (the movie title is deceiving if you haven't seen it), Dreamgirls, Big Fish (a tear-jerker)... I'm kinda drawing a blank right now, so these probably aren't the best examples.

But like for TV shows, I love Queer Eye and Project Runway... guilty pleasures.

I think "The Breakfast Club" is an excellent guilty pleasure for anyone over 17. :)

I love "Clash of the Titans." Love it. Own it.

Danzig 05-06-2007 03:19 PM

omg, clash of the titans. kids and i watched it not too long ago.

we had a board game 'clash of the titans' based on the movie, back when we were kids! well, for that matter, we had a raiders of the lost ark game.

TV shows. America's Next Top Model and Project Runway are definitely guilty pleasures.

Rileyoriley 05-06-2007 03:23 PM

I still like the original "Waltons" movie-"The Homecoming". It was before it was picked up as a series. Haven't seen it in awhile though. They used to play it around Christmas.:o

packerbacker7964 05-06-2007 03:28 PM

The wifey like Legands of the Fall with Brad Pitt.

pmayjr 05-06-2007 03:48 PM

Randall,
I forgot about Next Top Model. I never watch them in season, but MTV and VH1 seem to marathon the older seasons a lot. I get caught up in the them more than I should... to the point where they'll burn a Saturday afternoon lol.

GenuineRisk 05-06-2007 03:50 PM

"Dallas" Seasons One and Two on DVD. Truly, truly awesome. Sue Ellen drinks the whole way through her pregnancy. You'd never see that on TV today.

I can't believe I like that show that much but i do. And I'm not a reality TV fan. Never watch Idol or the like....But something about those 2 shows. Plus I think Tyra is great. The next Oprah except better.

Rileyoriley 05-06-2007 03:55 PM

For Tv shows, "The Partridge Family". I think I can probably still sing most of the songs albeit not well.:D

Well, TV guilty pleasures...American Idol comes to mind first. Also Cleopatra 2525, Sabrina and Hercules (not sure if that's a guilty pleasure as it has some content and is the precursor to Xena)

brianwspencer 05-06-2007 04:13 PM

Well, for TV I'd say American Idol.

For movies it is hands down Gator Bait II: Cajun Justice

paisjpq 05-06-2007 04:35 PM

the Goonies...I can still watch that movie any time it shows up on cable.

"The Hunger"
"Cocktail" (I know! I feel really guilty about it)
"The Howling"
"LadyHawke"

GenuineRisk 05-06-2007 08:20 PM

Somer, on what planet is "Buckaroo Banzai" a guilty pleasure?

timmgirvan 05-06-2007 08:45 PM

Funny you should mention Star Wars....my 20 yr old hasn't seen the first 3 episodes....have to fix that! Loved Goonies,LadyHawke(Broderick was hilarious) For TV... The Shield...Loving the protagonist even though he's bad! And for a movie...Sin City...love the Willis and O'Roarke characters!

Again, do not see "Sin City" as a guilty pleasure. It's a terrific movie.

2MinsToPost 05-06-2007 09:16 PM

I admit - I love some "chick flicks" and have even been known to watch
Sex and the City a time or two. Even worse, if I am off work, I have been known to watch  Oprah, The View etc:eek:

Time for me to get away from my femine side and back to my manly side
Hand me some beef jerky and a dvd of My Name Is Earl:D

Well, it's considered a cult movie...I think it's great but most would rank it with Little Shop of Horrors and Rocky Horror.

OMG; I love "Flash Gordon!"

Buffymommy 05-09-2007 03:22 PM

I admit. I liked both Jackazz movies. The first better than the second. Those guys are funny, wouldn't want to hang out with them, but they are funny.

Hey, Sex and the City is one of the TOP TEN Shows of all time. :)

And I admit, I do like to watch My Name is Earl. But this season isn't as funny.

Any just in case there still exists a soul who has not been moved by my several glowing recommendations of Gator Bait 2: Cajun Justice, let me rest my case once again regarding its superiority over every other bad movie ever with this photo:

Coach Pants 05-09-2007 04:09 PM

Toxic Avenger
Evil Dead 1,2,3
Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo
I'm Gonna Git You Sucka
Karate Kid 1 & 2
Pee Wee's Big Adventure
Blood In Blood Out
Over The Top
Grandma's Boy
The Waterboy (watch it everytime i'm flipping through channels and it's on)
Blazing Saddles
Neverending Story
V (NBC alien lizard mini series and cheesy series. Kenneth Johnson is making the second generation due out next year. My inner nerd is celebrating)

Oh man, how could I forget Rabid? Terrible movie but it was Marilyn Chamber's first role in "regular" movies...I thought she was actually pretty good too!
