OT: Good For Buffet

I think it so important in life to give back to others. Every day I'm teaching I'm considering this.

Buffet today giving 31 billion in wealth to charity is the way it should be done. Not only is he giving money to education, which I obviously feel strongly about, but also to world health.

You can't take money with you and I've told my parents to enjoy themselves and give whatever you want to me or charity. I wish more people, especially those with considerable wealth, chose the route that Buffet is taking. I have so much respect for Gates, Buffet, and the rest who are doing this. Maybe it starts a domino effect.

Gander 06-26-2006 01:22 PM

Who is Buffet?

And I can just hear the conversation now...

Randall- "Mom and Dad, give me your money, you cant take it with you. Let me gamble with it."

Mom and Dad- "Okay son, just dont get overboard."

Randall- "Thanks, I love the card at Belmont today."

:p

randallscott35 06-26-2006 01:24 PM

Warren Buffet, Tim.

And no I would not gamble any inheritance. And for the past 6 or 7 years I have been clear to both of them to enjoy themselves and spend every penny they have or give it to wherever they want. I wouldn't feel badly at all if I got absolutely nothing.

Downthestretch55 06-26-2006 01:31 PM

Randall,
I also applaud Waren Buffet and Bill Gates.
I liked their answer to the question at their news conference today..."When did you decide to stop accumulating and decide to start giving it away???
Reminded me of Ecclesastes 3:5-6.
Wise men.

I love buffet. I actually own some Berkshire Hathaway B. He is actually a distant cousin to Jimmy Buffet too. He is basically giving a ton of his cash to Bill Gates and his foundation. Gates and Buffet are the rare great businessmen that are good people, unlike the Rockefeller or Kennedy types that screwed people and then gave a few dollars of what they took from people back.

The son of the guy who married Anna Nicole Smith, died this week. He was the one contesting the will. Amazing, but he was the son of her husband. She might sound stupid, but she is smarter than all of us.

Gander 06-26-2006 01:37 PM

Kidding Randall, I know you wouldnt gamble that. Personally I think its the person's choice what to do with their own money. When I croak, my wife gets everything and I dont care what she does with it. I'll be horse food for some 10K claimer, what do I care?

Gander 06-26-2006 01:37 PM

Anna Nicole Smith has big hair

oracle80 06-26-2006 01:41 PM

Guy is a great man. Brilliant and giving.
He even has a horse named after him(his legendary nickname) who won in NY last month. Oracle of omaha. That horse is a maiden claimer, but the man he is named after is a grade one indivual.

Pointg5 06-26-2006 01:43 PM

Gander, you would love the guy, he loves Ice Cream, Candy, and Cherry Coke. When he was younger, he would go to the track with his dad and look for discarded winning tickets...

Gander 06-26-2006 01:45 PM

I dont like Cherry Coke, but I was so depressed yesterday I sat home and ate ice cream and chocolate chip cookies all afternoon.

Who is Warren Buffet? You cant be serious. He owns Berhshire Hathaway. He is only the 2nd richest man in the world.

This is a very nice gesture by Buffet and he has given millions to charities in the past. However, you have to read behind the lines. He is getting ready to announce a successor to his company and he is getting ready to move his assets in case of his demise. In the letter Buffet wrote to Bill and Melinda Gates, he wants all the money distributed in the year in which he donates and not added to the foundation's assets for future giving.

Gander 06-26-2006 01:49 PM

Read the original post sir. He never used the man's first name sir.

When I hear "Buffet", I think of the all you can eat kind. Not the guy who owns Oracle of Omaha.

Bershire Hathaway? I have never heard of this horse. Where does he/she run?

Buffet is the Oracle of Omaha. BH is the company. The big guys play in Berkshire Hathaway A, us little guys own some BH B. BH A is actually $90,000 a share.

Not sure if you are joking, but Bershire Hathaway is the name of his company and Oracle of Omaha was the horses name. If you were joking (which I think you are) it is pretty funny.

I can remember when BH A was $122k per share.

Gander 06-26-2006 01:54 PM

Does Ken Nesky still train Berskhire Cat, Berkshire Princess and Berkshire Highway?

oracle80 06-26-2006 01:54 PM

Tim he doesnt own Oracle of Ohama, Klaravich does. They name all their horses after financial market terms or market related things.
As far as I know he never owned any horses either.

I can feel any sympathy for anyone that owns it. They are all retired millionaires. There are some great stories about working class people buying in when he started and now are loaded. Too bad I didn't grow up next to a guy like that.

Gander 06-26-2006 02:00 PM

I would love to own any stock right about now

Stock market is the old way of making money. It is a vehicle for some sort of retirement these days unless you are super loaded. There are a couple of stocks out that that I like. One symbol is TCBK. It is a bank in California. The other is SIRI--Sirius Radio. Both are pretty cheap. Of course you could always short an oil stock once a Democrat gewts elected.

Satellite Radios are going to tank. Be careful. As for stock in oil companies, while this is a crooked administration that takes care of big oil, the price of crude is never going down again until they get the Oil Sands in Alberta running a little more efficiently. Real estate stocks though are likely to tumble as rates tick up.

You think they are going to tank? I think XM will survive, but I am hoping SIRI will get bought. True about the price of crude, but you never know. I also agree on Real Estate stocks.

Gander 06-26-2006 02:22 PM

I dont think there the same people Point.

Euro is in the oil change business and Kycher gives back rubs to high school chicks.

Unless this guy has one crazy imagination.

eurobounce 06-26-2006 02:23 PM

Of course I should not give out any stock advice. I lost money the last 5 years--lol.

As Root pointed out KY once was a stockbroker from Cincinnati, he's got all kinds of imagination.

Gander 06-26-2006 02:28 PM

Another huge difference is Euro is nice to Oracle. Kycher was not.
And Kycher was very cheap and didnt bet more than a dollar or two per race. Euro seems like he "sends it in".

Euro is NO way Ky. Euro has knowledge of racing. Ky didnt know that they had allowance races for two year olds until someone told him.

eurobounce 06-26-2006 02:32 PM

Who is Kycher? And why I am I being compared to him? And how can someone not know there are allowance races for two year olds. What do you expect, all of them to do go straight to claiming or stakes races.

I'll leave this alone, but I still believe Euro=Cherub, very sure of it, KY was pumping Sirius last year and Euro just did it.

Here's the rest:

Here's one that I just discovered, Eurobounce is none other than the KentuckyCherub, similarities, Euro and KY claim to live in the same area, Euro and Ky only post during the week, very rarely if ever on weekends(I noticed he posted this weekend, but this was after I made this post). Cherub made a post about Len Bias last year, Euro just put a similar post up on the other board. Kentucky claimed to date an 18 year old at one time(he states he's in his late twenties), Euro just made the same claim. The difference is Euro is friendly with Oracle, while Cherub would go out of his way to get him fired up. Also, both believe CDI will get the NYRA.

This is the last I will say on this....

The problem with satellite radio is that they are heavily dependent on sales to car manufacturers. Many people are buying cars with them, but realized they don't like pay a monthly fee of $12.95 for radio, which initially comes for free. The other huge problem they are facing is the internet. Almost everything on their stations can be found for free on the internet. Just look at ATRAB (on satellite but also free). I have both but they are becoming more and more useless. I used to like the sports radio and music but now I can listen to the same things for free on the internet. I probably will bail on both at the end of the year.

I am not in my late 20's - lol. I dont think I ever said that. I am in my 40's and have been for a few years. And I didnt get a home computer until recently and plus I usually work my butt off on weekend since it is the busiest time for me. Look, I dont know who this cat is, but he doesnt sound very pleasent. And I remember a month ago I was on-line with Scuds and Hooves for a pick 4 at Hollywood.

Maybe he is pumping Sirius because the guy who runs this site has a show on it. Trying to figure out who is/was who on chat rooms is insane. I spent the weekend defending myself for something I should have just laughed at.

Very good points. I wish I would have talked to you before this spring. My brother - n - law talked me into buying SIRI. He has gone down ever since. In fact, I also bought Revlon and it is down $2 since I bought it--ha ha.

My wife had one of these installed in her car, she said she will not renew...

Howard Stern made his millions and Karmazin is going to do ok, but I doubt Sirious survives. If XM and SIRI were smart they would combine. There is only room for one paid service and it needs to be around $5 a month. The technology is getting better though.
