Unbreakable Records

From the three major sports (basketball, football, baseball), what do u guys think are the most impressive and least likely records to ever be broken? Here are some that come to my mind:

Johnny Vander Meer's back to back no-hitters. Remember, to break the record, a player would have to pitch THREE straight.

Cy Young's 511 career wins.

Wilt Chamberlain's 50.4 ppg for a season.

Wilt Chamberlain's 27.2 rpg for a season.

Bill Russell's 55 rebounds in a game.

Jack Chesbro's 41 wins in 1904. Not the all-time record but I didn't consider anything before 1900.

SniperSB23 04-24-2007 09:37 AM

Cy Young's career wins record. All the others will likely never be touched but at least are conceivable under the current structure of the game. For anyone to ever get to 500 wins it would take a total shift back to pitchers making 60+ starts per season which won't happen.

alysheba4 04-24-2007 09:55 AM

the numbers wilt put up sound fake........27 boards a game:eek: plus i believe one year he led the league in rebounds AND assists. that will never happen again.

MaTH716 04-24-2007 10:09 AM

Cal Ripkens consecutive games record. The players today are babied so much, that there is no way that anyone will sniff that record.

Cannon Shell 04-24-2007 10:25 AM

More baseball records (though some are a bit obscure)

Chief Wilson of the 1912 Pirates had 36 triples in one season.

Nap Lajoie hit .426 in 1901
George Sisler hit .420 in 1920 when the rules are more like todays rules

Rickey Henderson's career stolen bases record of 1406
and single season record of 130

Sam Crawford's record of 51 career Inside the park HR's

Cy Youngs record of 749 Complete games

Walter Johnsons record of 110 career shutouts

Nolan Ryans records of 5714 K's, 215 games with 10 or more k's and the 7 no hitters

Barry Bonds .609 On base % in 2004

That could easily be duplicated but I guess it is safe to assume no one will ever throw two perfect games in a world series to break it.

UCLA's consecutive championships. We rarely see back to back, much less what they did.

Wilt's 100 (Kobe would be the only one)

Lance Armstrong's 7 straight TDF

Tiger's future major total.

Completing the Whorstmans UCLA bball records. 88 straight wins....

My friend Charlie Leone farting ~143 times in 1 minute. He swallowed air for 10 minutes and then showed unprecedented sphincter muscle control by firing off these odorless nitrogen/oxygen emmissions in rapid fire succession. A proverbial Gaitlin gun of passing wind. UnGodly.

We used a hand held counter but the one minute of intense belly laughter during the record may have led to some minor inaccuracies in counting.
Many may want an * by this feat but I chose a ~ because it really was right around this mark.

She did not know me. This record was set in 1976 in the 2nd floor bedroom of Charlie's house.

Ty Cobbs .358 or so batting average lifetime. Ichiro... cant touch this, Hammer time...
Oh yes. Almost all of Chamberlain's season averages are in the "cant touch this" category.

Tiger owns or shares the record for the lowest score under par in every major. He owns 3 outright...and only shares the record in the PGA Championship (18 under par)with Bob May, whom he later beat by 1 shot in a 3 hole playoff.

They guy won 3 straight USGA Juniors and 3 straight USGA Am's. That is winning 36 STRAIGHT match play matches...

At the rate Pletcher is going in terms of accumulating top horseflesh that could definitely be broken.

By the time the Belmont comes so many horses have fallen by the waistside and unknown factors all of a sudden show up,it'll be a long time before 1 trainer wins the Belmont 5 consecutive years.

Yes. He was sent an innappropriate amount of Stout. But thats my take. And after the beer, instead of farting, he was burping. Beer, the downfall of many a sports legend.

Very Interesting. Thanks for the stats Chuck. I don't see any of those falling except for the 36 triples. That will be a very tough one but if everything goes perfect a guy like Reyes could MAYBE do it.

Since no one in major league history other than the Chief has ever been in the 30's and the highest total in the last 50 years is Carl Crawford getting 21 2 years ago I'd say it is pretty safe

Mortimer 04-27-2007 05:14 PM

Gibsons 1.10 ERA for over 300 innings.

Armstrongs 3 prime weight division titles in one year.

lol lol lol's 2:04 flat clocking for one mile.

Thebby's remarkable powers.

I know it was supposed to basketball, football, and baseball, but I see we ventured away for some of this discussion.....Here' one.....any buddy remember a horse named Secretariat that ran the in The Belmont? I don't think that margin of victory will ever be duplicated. Amazing, even with a short field. Dimaggio's hitting streak? No one has even gotten close......

sorry, missed that one....

Apparently someone is not familiar with Cobalt Blue.
