Will this be the year >> Triple Crown ?
Just want to throw this out two weeks before the Derby. Does anyone think any of these Three Year Old's have a chance ? I get the feeling that as each year goes, the triple crown is a thing of the past .
|
It will happen again but this year is about as unlikely as it gets for it to happen. There are very few horses this year conditioned to run back in the Preakness two weeks later and the few that are conditioned aren't going to win the Derby anyways.

What di BURP. Oh excuse me. What did he say? |
No chance this year.
I bet we have a different winner in each race, just like last year. Especially with all the horses passing on the derby and pointing towards the preakness |

I'm kind of doubtful about our TC chances this year. Each decade since Seattle seems to have given about three shots at it, and this decade, we've already had them: War Emblem, Funny Cide, Smarty Jones. Add to that the light conditioning that everyone has had (no Afleet Alex's in this year's field) and I think we're due for a wait. Super horse, where are you?
|
Triple Crown??
Sh*t...I would be surprised if we had a horse run in all 3 legs. |
once smart people come along and finally fix the stupid triple crown series by putting 8 weeks between each of the triple crown races, running them all at 8.5 furlongs, putting all of the races on the tires, and limiting the fields to only storm cats.....we'll have a tc winner.
until then it seems unlikely |
Why only Storm Cats? When was the last time he had a Derby winner?
|
It often looks a lot more likely AFTER the Derby than before.

I don't see any of these being that good, but then again, War Emblem and Charismatic made runs at the TC because the entire crop wasn't that fast.
|
I agree with most of the posts on this topic, unlikely that we'll see TC this years (let alone if any one horse runs all three races)

He's never had a Triple Crown race win, period. |
Tobasco Cat won the last two legs (I think)

Curlin or Circular Quay wins the Derby while the other runs second. Now that we've established that much, let's examine the possibilities of a TC winner.
If Curlin wins the Derby: He'll come back and dominate the Preakness as CQ sits out the race. In the Belmont, Curlin is upset, either by CQ or a 30/1 (or more) longshot. If CQ wins the Derby: He'll come back and dominate the Preakness as Curlin sits out the race. In the Belmont, CQ is upset by a longshot, either Tiago or that McGaughey horse that ran second in the Wood. No TC winner this year. |
Far more likely we'll have a triple crown number repeat 8-8-8. I'm really leaning towards 3-3-3. I've been following this number all season long and it looks very strong.

Agree that it's unlikely. But if Curlin turns out to be a super freak...there'll be a bunch of posts saying it was obvious in hindsight.

Is this the Rail Bias THEORY ? |
Madame Coobala's crystal ball has focused on Curlin since before the Rebel. His image has become bigger and stronger. This horse romped, won for fun, led, rated...basically anything he was asked to do and then some.
Plus, Madame Coobala deems the competition a bunch of donkeys. That always helps. |
Now that we got one down and two to go..... Time to revisit this thread
ANY new comments now ? :p |

i did my part to help the sport by laying $200 to win $50 that there will not be a triple crown winner.
