Mayweather vs Da La Hoya May 5th

I hate that it happens to be on Derby Day but It'll be an exciting day to say the least. Home town track will show the fight on a 25 x 25 screen but I'm having friends over to grill down on the BBQ. I have PBF winning in a UD in 12 rounds. Lots of Mexician friends looking to lose lots of money on this one with me. They're giving me PBF in 12 rounds Vs Hoya by KO. I think PBF will not get KO'ed so I'm looking to bet around a $500 on that with them.

IrishofNDMan 04-22-2007 01:16 PM

Mayweather wins plain and simple, he is just too damn good!

Cannon Shell 04-22-2007 02:16 PM

Mayweather in 7, TKO

You gotta love Oscar...I mean, he has fought just about every top fighter he could. I used to dislike him, but he is a true sportsman.

Oh ya..the guy who cries like a baby everytime he loses....and threatens to sue.

What a nimrod.

IrishofNDMan 04-22-2007 07:37 PM

If it wasn't for sports, who would root for a NIMROD?

hoovesupsideyourhead 04-22-2007 07:56 PM

mayweather grade 1 three year old

ocar .former grade 1 placed 7 year old...speed kills..

Another nimrod.

This is a flat out mismatch. Could De La Hoya land a lucky punch...sure...but if both fighters are at the top of their game it is a mismatch. Mayweather will give him a lesson like he's never had.....Fight ends in 8, whether by KO, TKO, or Oscar's face is a mess....how it ends doesn't matter, the fact that it will end waaaay to late for the De La Hoya camp is the issue.

Let's be serious here.

If this wasn't the potential Mother of all Gold Mines for Oscar Wiener....he wouldn't even take a sniff at it.

Only in America.

pgardn 04-22-2007 09:03 PM

PBF could not mess up melting wax. I see him dancing around Oscar and peppering him. It goes the whole way with PBF in a un. decision. He is too fast. Maybe Oscar can catch him, but I cant see him knocking him out with one punch. It would have to be cumulative, and PBF is so fast, he just does not get hit that much.

And I cant stand PBF. He used to be one of my favorites. Needless to say if it comes down to guts and getting hit a lot, Oscar will win. PBF will not allow that. The only way PBF knocks out Oscar is if Oscar goes into desparation mode and gets totally caught off guard. My take. And I refuse to PPV. Ill just watch the rerun later.

I don't know much about boxing, but FW Jr. is a bad mutha ****er. Dude is like a rabid dog. He seems alot more hungry then pretty boy.

pmayjr 04-22-2007 10:55 PM

De La Hoya is the boxer win, lose, or draw that can still sell the most pay per views today. He's gonna get a whoopin on May 5th, but he's gonna make huge $$$$ too. I wouldn't be surprised if De La Hoya makes more $$$ than May weather in this fight.

Seattleallstar 04-23-2007 09:54 AM

Oscar KO's PBF in 7

oh i don't think there is any doubt he makes more.....

timmgirvan 04-26-2007 05:37 AM

I dunno....the way it's setting up....I think Oscar will take him.

I watched the first two episodes of 24/7 last night on HBO. Oscar really looks good. I still don't think he has a shot, but he looks better than ever. Mayweather is playing the thug role which drives me nuts. But his training regime is interesting. The whole beef about who is going to train him (his dad or his uncle) is ridiculous.

packerbacker7964 05-03-2007 04:43 PM

Both weighed in and both made weight so "Let's get ready to Rumble" of shait now I owe Michael Buffer $10,000. ha ha ha

Coach Pants 05-05-2007 07:13 PM

I'm buying the HD showing.

$64.95

randallscott35 05-05-2007 07:14 PM

65 bucks? I'd rather get Cluck U and watch Spike TV myself.

Coach Pants 05-05-2007 07:34 PM

Directv's website is at a crawl. Might not purchase it afterall.

timmgirvan 05-05-2007 07:38 PM

Save your money,PP! Unless you're really into boxing....I think you could get round by round updates at latimes.com/sports.

pgardn 05-05-2007 07:52 PM

The people on ESPN boxing message board will give you a summary of each round. Some of them are really good, some not so.

My whole neighborhood is starting to fill up with cars. I know its Cinco de Mayo, and I know I live in San Antonio (its good to know where one lives); But this is for the fight. Lots of folks here love boxing.

I got invited over to a couple of little parties. They dont like horses, and I still have to get my derby phlegm out of my system.

Coach Pants 05-05-2007 08:18 PM

Yeah i'm saving my money. 45 minutes and still stuck.

I know of a website that has the fight. Hmmmm.

timmgirvan 05-05-2007 08:20 PM

the hell with that, man! That's atrocious.

randallscott35 05-05-2007 08:25 PM

Those who watch the bout, please report back as I'd like to know how they looked.

ALostTexan 05-05-2007 11:52 PM

Mayweather in a split decision.

Really a BS split decision, as I thought it was pretty obvious that Mayweather dominated the fight, but either way it was a split.

Scary that that old guy had Oscar winning by 2 rounds!

Coach Pants 05-05-2007 11:57 PM

Mayweather won easily. The sombrero was comedy gold.

ALostTexan 05-05-2007 11:57 PM

Oh yeah, as for the drama in the fight....

Mayweather wore green, red, and white trunks, like the Mexican flag. Pretty funny. Came out in a big sombrero, too, mocking the Mexicans that were there.

The crowd was basically 75-25 in favor of De la Hoya, too, and every time that he landed what even looked like a punch the crowd would go wild.

In the end, though, Mayweather dominated what was a pretty boring fight. No major punches landed, no knockdown or even slip. Pretty much just Mayweather dancing around and avoiding a real fight, and De La Hoya making it look like a better fight than it actually was.

Mayweather also stood firm that he is retiring, which I have about as much faith in as I did Storm in May or Bwana Bull winning today and going on to the Triple Crown.

I am glad I saw the fight, just not glad that I blew even more money today as the Derby was not good to me...

My boy got the fight and we grilled it down. A couple of bucks from each guy and girl would get you a few Corona's with lime and a steak. I about **** my pants when the one judge favored Osacr by 2 rounds. I won around a grand on the fight to make up for my Derby miss que's. Oscar stood flat footed in front PBF and took a beating.

timmgirvan 05-06-2007 01:47 AM

I heard Oscar threw NO left hooks.....which is his prime punisher! WTH???

Seattleallstar 05-06-2007 01:51 AM

Oscar was no good, Freddie Roach really dissapointed me in his training of Oscar.

alysheba4 05-06-2007 10:23 AM

lets face it, boxing is a complete tired joke. mayweather is the most boring CHAMPION i have ever seen.................

hi_im_god 05-06-2007 10:27 AM

the only time oscar was effective was when he used his left jab. he won the rounds he did this.

i thought the comedy gold was the post fight interview with de la hoya when he was asked why he didn't use it more. he acknowleges how effective it had been but then adds..."i'm not sure why but it just didn't seem like it was the night for it." makes sense.

mayweather's a monster. i cannot believe how fast his hands are.

it's time for larry merchant to retire. it's painful waiting for him to finish a thought or question.

The only thing more tiresome than the merchant-mayweather sr. interview would be merchant interviewing mayweather sr. and william shatner as james t. kirk at the same time.
