Santa Anita gets 2008 Breeders Cup

Awesome. I like when it is out there. So I guess it will be held on a synthetic surface for the 1st time. Should be real interesting. I would assume we will get more of a European contingent than normal.

Except for the minor detail that there will be no dirt races.

Yeah, I went back and edited my original post. Didnt hit me until a moment later. Should be interesting.

Honu 04-19-2007 02:56 PM

wooohoooo i cant wait , last time it was a S.A. we ran 7 and won 4 maybe in 2008 we can make it 5.

SniperSB23 04-19-2007 02:57 PM

So the first year they add the BC Dirt Mile it is actually the BC Dirt Mile and 70 yards, now for the second year it will be the BC Synthetic Mile. Good planning.

I hope you have as much luck. How does your man like the synthetic surface?

SniperSB23 04-19-2007 03:01 PM

If Vengeance of Rain sticks around next year the BC Classic is his for the taking.

The Indomitable DrugS 04-19-2007 03:01 PM

If that's true....Great....Breeders Cup over poly-track.

I wonder if there will be any good college football games on to watch that day?...in between the watered down turf races anyway.

Obviously now.....a 2008 Breeders Cup in Hong Kong looks like it would have been a spectacular idea!

Heck, if they move the thing from Santa Anita to Khe Sahn it would be an improvement.

Kasept 04-19-2007 03:05 PM

Whoa.. This came up on the show yesterday and I suggested that SA was looking like a major candidate but didn't think it would happen so quick. Figure CD in '09 and back to BEL in '10..

It's really a shame....because the Breeders Cup was always my single favorite sporting event...from both a sports fan standpoint, and most certainly from a bettors standpoint.

What a mess things have become.

blackthroatedwind 04-19-2007 03:14 PM

This is idiotic beyond belief.

Like DrugS I have zero interest.

SniperSB23 04-19-2007 03:16 PM

Even the turf races are going to suck since all the best turf horses in the world are going to want in the BC Classic. They are going to wind up with 28 horses pre-entering to the Classic and will have tons of difficult and controversial decisions to make as to who they pick for the field.

cakes44 04-19-2007 03:32 PM

Lava Man's connections have got to be loving this and praying they can keep him in form for another year.

Sightseek 04-19-2007 03:37 PM

At least with it in Santa Anita we can get more participation (hopefully) from Hong Kong & Japan.

smuthg 04-19-2007 03:42 PM

Never been to Santa Anita, so I am half-way excited about that, but the "poly" makes me nervous...

Lava Man would get crushed by some of the Japanese horses that will come over.

brockguy 04-19-2007 04:11 PM

hopefully, itll be a bit warmer there than the last two cups..
could make it more manageable for foreign turf horses in the classic, but they'll still have to go with the early speed.. and yeah, can defo see much more cross entries than normal,.. the turf fillies and mares could have 5 races to choose from 8, 9,10 and 12f!!

pmayjr 04-19-2007 04:14 PM

I hope they have a special Breeder's Cup "Down-the-Hill" Million race. That would own!

ateamstupid 04-19-2007 04:15 PM

Looks like this'll be the first BC that I skip in terms of gambling. Can't stand SoCal racing, can't stand synthetic racing.

Same here. They gotta ruin everthing.

fpsoxfan 04-19-2007 07:06 PM

You Know what's good about this? NOTHING!! Oh...By the way...On what surface did Notional just bust his ankle up on? POLY-TRACK
Poly-Track= One more example of the pussification of America.

What do you think?

I dislike SoCal racing for more reasons than just the surface.

miraja2 04-19-2007 07:12 PM

Oh this is wonderful!!
With the joint decisions to add a BC mile race, and run the BC on poly, a spectacular superstar like Joe Got Even will finally be able to win that Breeders' Cup race he so richly deserves next year.
I can't wait.
I guess some people saw the Bluegrass last week and thought.....YES!! I want the BC Classic to look like that!
Ridiculous.

TitanSooner 04-19-2007 07:44 PM

Our voice can only be heard by the handle, specifically the decline of.. as long as people continue to bet on it, those in charge will see no problem with it..

look at the numbers at Keeneland. It's amazing.

The only thing we're lacking in this years Derby is some polytrack.. because it is just not confusing enough as it is

I applaud those who hate it and are backing it up by not gambling. Boy, if the handle went down for BC '08 significantly, what's the first thing they're going to point to?

As for me, I'm a degenerate and will gamble on anything.

GPK 04-19-2007 07:48 PM

Hugely dissapointing....imo.

Kildaretown 04-19-2007 07:49 PM

The world finally accepted the horseless carriage, the flying machine, the telegraph, radio, TV, the internet and even instant coffee. I imagine Polytrack will be accepted eventually also.
Incidentally, man has walked on the moon, Elvis really is dead, and Bill Buckner still has not caught that ground ball.
All realities of life--along with Polytrack.

Very good post.

Hawk 04-19-2007 08:44 PM

They have yet to install the surface in Arcadia let alone run a race and most in this thread begin whining now?

Artificial surfaces are now part of the game. You don't or won't play Del Mar, Keeneland, Arlington, Santa Anita, Woodbine, Turfway, Hollywood, Golden Gate and more?

Start boning up on the dogs. Thoroughbreds aren't for you anymore.

Honu 04-19-2007 08:54 PM

First off, no one knows that S.A. is putting in Polytrack , they could put in Cushion track which can be as fast as dirt and still kind to the horses since we are all worried about the frikin horses not going fast enough .
S.A is a beautiful location , last time it was held there the place was so packed you couldnt move , as for the mile races being a bitch , you wont have to worry about that wicked ledge on the outside when they put in a synthetic track because the whole surface will be level , so no more fretting about horses going down the slope.
I for one like the one and only synthetic surface that I have been on , it is kind yet not biased , your speed horse can still work in 58 and change and your distance horse will still go his normal speed all with the added bonus of horses not breaking their freaking legs off.
I just dont get people , they say the breed is fragile and watered down by speed , so now when horses have to go slower in order to finish ( which means people will have to breed more for stamina) everybody gets their pantys all bunched up. I just know from what I have seen so far that Cushion track works , horses are staying sounder and to me that is what counts, not that they go 21 , 44, 56, and so on , as the saying goes , SPEED KILLS.

Richard is a big advocate of synthetic surfaces , in fact when the training track at Keeneland first opened we had some horses stabled there and he couldnt wait to get on it . The proof is in the pudding , I check legs everyday and I can tell you Cushion track is better for the horses.

Hate California all you want, but I will be at the 2008 Breeders Cup for 2 days in wonderful Califorinia Sunshine while most of you will be locked up for the winter. Warm sunshine or freezing ass snow. No brainer for most.

As if everyone's issue with putting the BC there is the climate.

No that would be the kinder gentler surface to the horses.
