4/19: Aqueduct (4th-9th)

Bit stunned Wednesday that Aqueduct Carryover was hit after $108.00 Gyarmati horse seemingly made a 6 for 6 unlikely. One ticket took down the entire pot ($124,000).. Overall a poor day as I missed or passed on a couple of logical winners. The 9th race Longshot Alert winner and exotics softened the blows of the rest of the lousy tabs somewhat. Hope you did OK..

Got a call 30 min ago, "Let's go to Gulf." Well, it's the last day I can make it and it's really too nice out not to go. No Form, no ideas, but I am armed with this and the Keeneland threads as well as a pocket full of $5 bills.

Para hoy, la vida muy bueno.

Buena Suerte!

For what it's worth, in the 9th race Who's Yo Grandaddy and Snuff Box have both been gelded since their last starts though Snuff Box was already a ridgling.

I noticed a couple days ago that Sunriver makes his return today in the 3rd.

Good to see him back.

He has an outside shot to hit the board. It is only a five horse field after all.

Kenny,

To expand on Phil's answer, a RIDGLING is a colt who has one testicle that has failed to descend. While it's not a reproductive problem later on, it can be a physical issue as the entrapped testes can cause discomfort in a runner, limiting his stride.

Funny Cide was a ridgling. Dominican was as well, and was severely impinged by the discomfort until being gelded. Darrin Miller told me that the horse's extension and whole way of going has changed since the surgery. (One reason that those saying he is strictly a Poly type are being short-sighted... He hasn't run on a dirt track SINCE the operation.)

Great point- he looked MUCH better at Turfway stride-wise than he did in the CD stake. I thought it was maturity but if the trainer says it was a big factor, I believe him.
If the wiseguys don't bang the odds down he could be the trifecta inflator.

Diamond Stripes was MUCH better than him last year and Tastyville is coming off the worst ride of the decade and had he gotten a fair trip last time could have earned a Beyer fig of 103 or better. Sunriver is OK but he's a lot more reputation than accomplishment.

I just find this hard to believe with Jean Luc aboard.... stunning really...

Rudeboyelvis 04-19-2007 02:21 PM

36k super in the 4th with a 71.00 horse getting it done...Maybe this one will c/o....

pmacdaddy 04-19-2007 02:28 PM

I think Sciacca winning the 7th at 12-1 will probably insure the carryover...

TitanSooner 04-19-2007 03:52 PM

Didn't get 12-1. But will still take it.

Nice call Steve. Now let's finish this pk4...

blackthroatedwind 04-19-2007 03:56 PM

I finished 2nd and 3rd in the finale to hit the Pick-4 and boxed them in the exacta.

I don't think the winner will come down unfortunately.

TitanSooner 04-19-2007 04:01 PM

jockey's objection.. I never had a chance

gilbertjump 04-19-2007 04:02 PM

BT - Didn't know #2 scratched in 1st leg. Guess I get the full $250 as well. Better lucky than good...

Thanks Steve! - Would not have played the Sciacca Entry on top without your guidance. Hit him nice for some win $$ as well...

Kasept 04-19-2007 05:13 PM

Pat, BT, Gil,

Thanks guys.. Got hot when it counted..Glad we survived the stewards. The 2X payoff was a pleasant bonus too. Hope some caught the 2nd nightcap Superfecta in 2 days too...

And how about SEE-ACK-AHHHH?!?!

Love you're avatar, Don Cherry is the man !!!
I'm not much of a hockey fan, but know of him...he tells it like it is!
Heard the interview with him on Jim Rome yesterday, told a story about the last time he did commentary on American T.V. a few years back...it was a game that the Pittsburgh Penguins were playing, he said "look over there... Mario Lemieux his "sister" (Jaromir Jagr), after that comment...his services were no longer needed. Got, give Cherry a lot of credit for speaking his mind!
He'll be doing commentary during the Stanley Cup on NBC this year...worth watching to see what he'll say! :D

You are correct, Cherry is the man. He shoots straight from the hip, don't get to see/hear alot of him here in the states but whenever im free i always watch his show saturday nights on CBC. He's a good ol Canadian boy who loves hockey and doesn't care too much for the European players
