One Hot Wish to be sold

Jill Byrn just reported that One Hot Wish - the filly that broke the world record for 4.5 furlongs - will be sold Tuesday at Keeneland. She is consigned by Eaton Sales. Good luck to everyone.

brianwspencer 04-13-2007 11:55 AM

No!

Scav 04-13-2007 12:29 PM

Like you wouldn't have sold her, no idea what she is worth, but I know it is a ton

ArlJim78 04-13-2007 01:07 PM

what a shocker !!!

Scav 04-13-2007 01:18 PM

If I was the owner, she couldn't have gotten to that sale fast enough, hell, I probably would have sat outside with her and said "SILENT BID for your WORLD RECORD HOLDER"

blackthroatedwind 04-13-2007 01:21 PM

I wouldn't pay a dime for that horse.

ArlJim78 04-13-2007 01:25 PM

i've got that horse on my watch list,
can we say underlay of the decade.

whodey17 04-13-2007 01:26 PM

Her breeding isnt flashy at all. I wonder what the reserve will be. I am with BTW, I wouldnt buy her.

blackthroatedwind 04-13-2007 01:27 PM

Based on the performances from Wesley Ward's horses in Florida, and their confusingly low odds race after race, I wouldn't take ANY horse from him.

The over/under on career races for this particular horse feels like 3 1/2.

I bet she could be had privately for about $500k. And, it'd only be that high becasue the sheiks are behind you.

I saw the same BTW. Ward didnt do much in Florida and all of a sudden he is popping 2 year olds right and left in KY and Cali. Most of these are homebreds or at least he owns part of the horse. Something isnt sitting right with me on this.

Actually Ward had a huge meet, especially in percentage terms, at Gulfstream and one race after another horses were being dramatically overbet and winning with ease.

this is absolutely positively no surprise, if it were opposite then it would be a story...he is crooked, no doubt, none, zero

It's not a colt, so I can't see big, famous money having testosterone-feuled ego battles over ownership.

What is the reserve on a filly of that breeding, with only the "possibility" of a graded-stakes resume before she hits the shed?

Be interesting to watch and see if she meets the reserve.

Indian Charlie 04-13-2007 03:13 PM

this horse is better bred than people realize.
obviously i am a real big fan of in excess, and i believe this filly's sire is the 2nd best offspring of inxs that i've seen run. he had all sorts of problems, but that horse could really run.

if you go back a couple of dams too, there were some pretty decent horses in her family. there is even a winner of the test stakes that won 10 of 13.

This is consistent with him, when his horses take action, it comes from all coasts

UNDER!

citycat 04-13-2007 10:35 PM

I believe she will be sold first even though she will be listed as HIP 227. It will be interesting to see who goes for the highest: HIP 86, HIP 112, HIP 113, HIP 124 or HIP 227. I kinda think it will be HIP 124 but wouldnt put alot on it.

Sale begins at 1330 on Tuesday.

There's at least one major stakes winner every year to come out of these 4.5 furlong races at KEE.....perhaps it will be her....as she's certainly going to be the most impressive winner anyway.

$300,000 for One Hot Wish

With 'on site' reporting from 'Riot', the world record holder goes for $300k..

pmacdaddy 04-17-2007 12:48 PM

Best of Luck to them...

philcski 04-17-2007 01:21 PM

I figured about 5-10X that, even with a nothing pedigree.
Shows how much I know about auctions!

blackthroatedwind 04-17-2007 01:24 PM

Instead of hitting the gavel on the sale someone should have loudly flushed a toilet.

Assuming she is sound you'd figure whoever bought her will point to that 2 year old Stake at Churchill Derby week.

It only took Half Ours a year and a half to recover ;) That same year a filly was 2nd...I don't think I've ever seen her entered in a race since. Pro Pink was 2nd last year and she has at least made it to the races a few times. Maybe this year a filly will win?

probably a dangerous assumption at this point...
I think you mean the three chimney's juvenille? Or was it re-named?

SniperSB23 04-17-2007 01:30 PM

So what is the deal with the trainer here? Is he the type that throws out win early types that run huge and then disappear or do his horses just run huge for him and then fizzle out if they go to someone else? If it is the former then couldn't that be a good purchase if you kept the horse with the same trainer? She'd have to be one of the favorites for the G3 on May 3rd which would make her valuable as a broodmare.

The horse is a mess physically. She's extremely crooked. That's why she didn't go for more money.

I think it was renamed last year when they moved it from the Derby undercard to the Thursday prior, but that is the one.

I thought that it might have been renamed...but I couldn't remember, thanks.

philcski 04-17-2007 01:38 PM

The only horse I can remember in the last several years to run in one of the 4.5F races at KEE then actually turn out to be something as an elder was Limehouse.

1 in about 1000 is not a very good track record. Good luck to them...

I think they actually canceled the Three Chimney Juvenile and moved the G3 Kentucky Breeders' Cup Stakes to its place on the calendar.

The ill fated Gallant Secret was 2nd in 2004 (she was pulled up in the Deleware Oaks). The filly, Five Star Holding, was the one who was 2nd behind Half Ours.
