Hard Spun
 

Worked very well this morning at Churchill. He worked 5f in 1:00 1/5 which was he fastest at that distance on the day. His fractions are: :12 2/5, :23 4/5, :35 2/5, :47 3/5, galloping out six furlongs in 1:13 3/5. I was there for his work and I have to be honest and say that the horse look unreal. He really loved the stretch and seemed to relish the surroundings. Now, the track that he worked on today will not be the same track come Derby day as we all know. But HS did look very good.

THATS GOOD NEWS, im liking him more and more every day....

Been my Derby horse since last year, but I HATE six week layoffs before a race this big. I'm glad he looked good though.

Byk and I decided that breakfast at Wagoners was a better option than watching the work. But we did make the press conference where Hard Spun personally said he was happy with his work and thought that the surface was nice but was not happy about the cold temperatures.

I hope he was polite and thanked you all for coming too.

Great hunger is a horse I'm not too familair with. Although it is close to lunch time.

And I'm not even going to comment on you adding time squared in with those other 5. No chance he's even in the Derby, but you'll realize that after this Satuday.

He was very nice and said he was tired of some guy in a red jacket doing all the talking for him.

And Byk tried to line him up for ATRAB for tonight but HS said he was busy this afternoon

What are the odds that guy in the red jacket will be telling us the horse didn't take to the track on May 5th? I'll say 1/20.

I want to know why he was pulled from the Blue this weekend ?

They seem so worried about the track, but what about SS and GH. If he would get smoked this weekend by them this weekend, then would they really care about surfaces? I just don't understand why not see if your horse can compete witht the big guns. At least most of the other top 10 contenders have faced off against each other at some point over the past 6 months.

Nice--maybe we can hook-up and talk some racing. Or talk something other than horse racing.

If he wins or comes in 2nd, does it really help him? If he wins from the front he is unlikely to duplicate it at 10f. If he loses he doesnt get the lead, then maybe he gets a complex about not being able to get the lead.

I dunno, Im trying to come up with a reason for you and thats the best I can do. It sure doesnt help handicappers any, Id like to see what he can do on the front end of fast fractions..

I think that they connections didnt want to face SS or GH. HS doesnt need the graded earnings as he is in the Derby. I wouldnt run in the Bluegrass. I would take the 6 weeks off.

To be honest, I don’t want to sound overconfident, because I’m not. But if this horse likes the racetrack, that’s all I’m asking for. We’ll take on the competition. I just want him on a surface he’s OK with. That was more of a concern for us than not having faced the heavy heads.”

Should be, sure beats playing the lottery. How incredible would that be? There would only be 27,907,200 possible combinations in a 20 horse field. Why not take it at a 10c minimum?

Well isn't that exactly what happened at Oaklawn? He was I think working bullets, no word of any problems, and then after the off race it became that the track was the issue. You better believe if he does anything other than win the derby there will be a laundry list of excuses. The lower his finish the longer the list.

It is bad when you start making excuses a month before the race

yeah, it's crap...he worked well several times at oaklawn, and i think three different times in that article today alone how 'he didn't like the track'...such bs. one of the things they said when they skipped the risen star was that they were happy to stay at oaklawn instead. he loses, so suddenly he doesn't like the track? please!

i don't like the waffling by this group-i like the horse, but his people are getting on my nerves.

they always need an excuse-it's crazy. well, maybe he'll make sure they don't need to find one....
