randallscott35 04-07-2007 04:56 PM

Scuds, that's always how it is.

i cant belive he won, lol i have been saying for a week i liked him and i did but i thought he'd run a big second but for him to win, i think $ wise this might be one of the biggest scores i have ever had/

SCUDSBROTHER 04-07-2007 04:59 PM

Point did back him this week.I wanted to back him up,but horse has been f'n me with screwdriver whenever I write about him.Same as Giacomo.I make money, but not what I should.Trainer is sooooo tricky.

Merlinsky 04-07-2007 05:01 PM

Oh I'm so excited for the horse and connections. I won't call my feelings about him a 'tout' by any means as I didn't feel obligated to call him out, it was more a "I'd love it if this horse did good" based on who his relation is and his people. That isn't the same as "watch him kick butt"... I had a feeling today specifically when Mike was all 'he's got more speed than Giacomo' that it would perhaps bode extremely well for him at some point. Whatever else happens, good for him.

I've got a few horses that I don't necessarily have as my idea for winning the Derby purely on talent but I definitely have a soft spot should they get it done. Does that make sense to anybody?

Much credit to all of you. Congrats!

lol

congrats scuds...he looked good today! i was concerned when i saw how much he was washing out, but he was much the best.

randallscott35 04-07-2007 05:07 PM

Let's all not forget what an excellent race King of the Roxy ran. He was wide and ran a negative number last time, was stretching---and still ran well. Nice horse.

ateamstupid 04-07-2007 05:07 PM

Helluva ride by Mikey. Reminiscent of the Derby with Giacomo.

SCUDSBROTHER 04-07-2007 05:08 PM

He has much more speed than Giacomo, but been giving it up after making big middle moves.Classic blinkers off/lets- relax- boy move.Mikey just fits these connections(understands trainers methods etc.)

Whatever he beat and however long it took him to do so notwithstanding, the horse is a Grade 1 winner and Derby bound.

The Mike Simth quote is absolutely priceless.

he was my pick in this race, thought he was going to get it done...he answered the question about 9f-altho he didn't win, he still looked pretty good. but can he get the 10f? we know tiago can, same dam as giacomo and pleasant tap as the sire, he'll handle the distance derby day just fine.

between his back legs, had sweat running down his legs. no worries tho! he looked calm enough, just sweating like mad behind.

Coach Pants 04-07-2007 05:14 PM

His win just proves that i'm a chickenshit gambler. Hating myself right now.

he who? he tiago or he king of the roxy?

i'd say tiago has the better shot of the two. tiago has the right breeding, and if the race sets up right, and he gets the right trip, yeah he can win.

king of the roxy--i wouldn't pick him to win it.

i'm leaning towards great hunter....been following hard spun all spring, but just because i thought he was a nice colt, not that i thought he was future derby material. if he shows up, i'll pull for him-but i think great hunter is the one to beat.
cowtown cat is one to watch as well. i like distorted humor, and we know he can sire a derby horse-but i question his bottom half.

plenty of time between now and cinqo de mayo...a lot can happen.

things are really starting to get interesting!

Great call Scuds and PG

Hickory Hill Hoff 04-07-2007 06:54 PM

Had a "small" win wager on him, but in the tri's and super's keyed him underneath the Pletcher duo & Liquidity...f-uped as usual!
He's definitely my "longshot" play in the Derby.

did you watch the whole thing? post parade and such?

i was hollering for king to go go go, and all of a sudden tiago took off...

then i hear them talking about him being giac's half brother...that mare is worth her weight in gold!

Yea,so similiar to the derby ride.I think the colt probably has some of his half brothers' likes/dislikes,and Mike knew exactly what to do.Let him fall back last..outside on backstretch...saved ground on far turn...and collected them. Exactly what I wanted in his last. Was mid-pack,and stuck inside last time.Middle move and cut the gas line.BLINKS OFF N' SMITH ON(guess that's the deal.)He never actually had even finished 1st before(Spankey did,)but crosses line 1st in the Santa Anita Derby.Wow......LOL 2 YEARS AGO,but the script is so similiar. They are already saying the same things too..LOL..."He was the only one doing anything at all in the stretch."...They thought they were rid Giaco........LOL

You guys Kill me.One of the worst fields ever, and it is won by some piece of **** MAIDEN,and all of you jump on the Derby bandwagon with him.God help you all.

you kill me, he has as good a shot as any, he did not get a great setup today they dident go to fast up front and he still closed strongly, he is up and coming im not saying he will win but he has a better shot then some other major names, in my opinion... i cant belive the **** im reading on other posts about this horse, he has as good a shot at any, well bred, should get alot better pace setup, this guy has alot going for him.

You really killed them today PG with your selections.

You might want to consider auditioning for that new handicapping show, "Playing To Win".

SCUDSBROTHER 04-07-2007 09:11 PM

LOL...This is too funny.Horse has more speed than Giacomo, but couldn't win using it.I remember him rushing up to go with Tenfold in a maiden sprint on opening day.Flattened badly.Only way he could win was being treated exactly like his half bro.Well,I will assume he won't put in consecutive wins.JUST A GUESS..LOL..hope he does, but highly doubt it.He is acting just too much like the half bro.

well, i haven't said tiago is my derby horse, nor is he a maiden.
shame you can't enjoy a race, and say anything about the winner, without being dressed down. regardless of field strength, tiago is now a gsw-who knows where he goes from here?

hockey2315 04-08-2007 12:13 AM

He's not my top pick but I can see this horse winning the Derby with right set-up, etc. . . He's gonna be severely underlaid, however, because of the Giacomo comparisons. . .

The Indomitable DrugS 04-08-2007 04:11 AM

Giacomo was a MUCH better horse than Tiago going into the Derby---and you aren't going to get 50/1 on Tiago.

Is Tiago even nominated to the Derby? The reason I ask is that in my Equibase "Road to the Triple Crown" email, they do not list him in the SA Derby report, but they do list the 2nd-6th place finishers, as well as Boutrous and Level Red.

I tried to find an online list of the 450 early nom's, but couldn't. (I did find a list of the 10 late nom's, and Tiago isn't among them.)
