Cotton Balls for No Biz
Got to like this move by Tagg. Not only does he add blinkers but he is going to put some cotton balls in No Biz's ears. Well at least there were there in his last work. I this is an old trick but I love when trainers reach deep into their bag of tricks to try to find something that works. No Biz is a talented horses. I hope all of this works out for him. I wonder if there is going to be a new equipment change logo for adding/removing cotton balls in the DFR.

I really do think NoBiz has the most talent, maybe outside of Street Sense, in this 3 year old crop. I think if the blinks and cotton do the trick, we might be seeing a great strech duel between Biz and Sense in the Derby.

I have to agree with the both of you. I will not be wagering this weekend but I do look forward to a nice performance from No Biz. I also look forward to a potential rivalry between SS, No Biz and possibly ANG.

I hate to break up this Nobiz lovefest, but what exactly has he done on the track that makes you believe A) he has such incredible talent and that B) he is not just a headcase who ran away from a couple of bad fields and caught everyone's attention.
On paper he just doesn't compare to Any Given Saturday. Nobiz spun his wheels last time, playing around the whole way and came up short in a race where they weren't exactly flying home. Now Barclay Tagg, usually as traditional a horseman as they come is trying everything but the kitchen sink to straighten out this guy's myriad problems. If I'm proven wrong then so be it, but as of right now Nobiz has not done anything on the track that leads me to believe he is faster than Any Given Saturday or a few others from this year's crop. Honestly, I like AGS, but I want to see him run big off of the "fake" dirt. :) But I do like him. If he can take to the real dirt, I think he is a very nice horse.
I do like No Biz too. I believe he is going to be my pick in this race. |
not trying to knock Nobiz or Barclay Tagg...but in my opinion having to resort to something like earplugs to get a horse to focus isn't quite what I want in my derby horse...there is no crazier day than Churchill on May 6th...talent or no, I wouldn't want my money to rest on a headcase in that scenario. (and before anyone reminds me I know that plenty of headcases have won the derby, I just don't think this one will)

He is going to need some really BIG cotton balls for derby day. |
I've loved this horse since the day he opened his little horsie eyes and said, "Hello world, I am No Biz!!"
I feel sorry for his competition. They're going to be so jealous that he has balls in his ears and they don't. What an outstanding, historic day it's going to be when he wins the Wood by over 20 lengths. Whoda thunk that all it took to get this magnificent horse in the winners circle is some comfy balls in the ears to drown out all of the negativity? |

I wonder if Tagg's gonna add the popsicle sticks or tongue depressors and surgical tape to keep all those cotton balls in place. Like my vet does when dogs have their ears trimmed. No Biz'll have a hard time pinnin' those boys, if he gets into a stretch duel. |

First blinkers.
Then cotton balls. Next news will be the horse will wear those funny plastic teeth. No thanks at a short price. |

I really just am not sold on Nobiz. He is nice looking but he really hasn't run a fast race yet. In fact his maiden was faster than his last race. He might just not be the great horse people thought he would be. Not to knock Albert the Great, but he isn't exactly producing great horses.

i said to myself: "self, if they give that boy some cotton balls to stick in his ears, he is going to win himself the wood memorial someday." |
Acutally the best thing to put in his ears for the noise is tampons. Tha way there is a string incase they get to far down in the ear.It works for my barrel horses that go crazy in indoor arenas. And alot of ropers use them for there horses at the National Finals. Try having a spooky horse at the NRF in Vegas. If it can work for them its gotta work for NoBiz. The NRF crowd is just about like the Derby crowd.

Occasionally, the string hanging out can bother a horse with sensitive ears, though. |
Any truth to the rumors I've been reading today that Tagg is planning on running Nobiz back in the Excelsior because "everyone knows that a 20 length blowout win does nothing for a horse's foundation?"

I agree with NTamm. Nobiz is a very nice horse, and certainly still on a relatively short list of actual Derby contenders, but so far he has not lived up to the hype, and has yet to run a fast race. How long can we keep blaming his bad habits?
While obviously he can win Saturday, I do not feel he is as good as Any Given Saturday, and I also expect Summer Doldrums to put in a very good effort. |

Well, he has won at the distance in a decent (not great but decent) time and over the same track. AGS has not run the distance yet. |

Didn't say I was going to bet the race. Just saying that I think NoBiz is going to win. I do think the sleeper in the race is Summer Doldrums. I won't be shocked if AGS wins though. |

What is the general feeling about the inside speed? Do jocks want to be able to see where the other front runners are? WOuld it affect NoBiz not being able to see the others? |
Everyone knows about the bad habits.
I dont give a damn who he is by, Albert the Great not putting out great horses does not have anything to do with what Nobiz has displayed on the track. I watch the animals run. And he is very talented. First he is huge, if he learns, he could flat out pile through a crowd. Secondly he is fast, he puts himself in pretty good position from the start. Thirdly he does not give up. Just look at the last race when he was lugging in. He came on again very hard. Immense talent with some bad habits. Point Given had a lot of problems early on also. If Tagg straightens him out, he is a perfect Derby horse with his strengths. Crazy to leave this one out at this point, crazy. |
This is a very interesting race. How much did the Tampa Bay Derby take out of AGS. No Biz and hard Spun had difficult races last time out. Maybe neither of them run well and another horses surprises us. There are too many questions in this race for me to wager on. I like No Biz because I like Albert The Great and I like Tagg. I want the horse to do well as with any horse. Blinkers and cotton balls may work once, but who is to say it will work twice or even at all.

I'm most interested in Summer Doldrums. I've been partial to Rick Violette's since Read the Footnotes grueling win in the FOY a few years back. The day I fell in love with racing.
I hope SD's last race in the Gotham was a one-time things and not a precursor of things to come. |
