Wood Field

Wood Memorial S. (G1)

1 1/8 Miles | Open | 3 Year Olds Stakes | Purse: $750,000

1 Nobiz Like Shobiz Velasquez C
2 Sightseeing Castellano J J
3 Flashstorm Jacinto J
4 Cowtown Cat Jara F
5 Summer Doldrums Luzzi M J
6 Any Given Saturday Velazquez J R
7 Reptilian Smarts Flores D R

The pace scenario sure did change with the defection of CQ and the addition of AGS.

Sightseek 04-04-2007 06:45 PM

Cowtown Cat will scratch.

I love the quote from Viollette, that if Summer Doldrums doesn't run 1st or 2nd he probably doesn't belong in the Derby anyway...much better to find out now than put him in over his head for the Derby. :)

Now if only more trainers and owners could think like that.:)

I'll take a page from GPK, not a Grade 1 winner in sight......sad

Kev said that in reference to the Santa Anita Derby, and I think it fits better there. I would not be shocked to see Any Given Saturday or Nobiz like Showbiz win a different (other than this one) G1 at some point in their career.
It isn't a great race, but compared to the Santa Anita Derby, it is the freaking '78 JCGC.

i really dont know ? i just dont like him i guess he has done nothing wrong, i guess its just a personal preference, i really belive that nobiz will handle him this saturday though.

Danzig 04-05-2007 09:47 AM

i think any given saturday will get it done.

good luck, i think his last might have took alot out of him, also nobiz has a big race over the track, and is working very good. he lost to scat daddy by less then 1.5 lenghts and scat daddy came back to win again, so i think nobiz has alot going for him.

As do I, Deb. No knocks on Nobiz, but AGS is just more professional.

i like any given saturdays losing effort to street sense far more then nobiz's loss to scat daddy. and i don't think that effort will drain down AGS--i'm not one of those who subscribes to the bounce theory, where a horse who runs well automatically regresses next time out.
as for scat daddy being an indication that another horse is good....i'll pass.

Seattleallstar 04-05-2007 10:00 AM

I'm wondering how AGS will do after that hard battle with Street Sense, ill go with the other Pletcher in this race

i think he'll do just fine...i think many would be all over the horse had he won by a nose, rather then lose by one.

Danzig 04-05-2007 10:15 AM

and if sightseeing doesn't run, i saw that he may not, that doesn't leave much of a field...hell, it's not much of a field NOW!

It's comical to me how you tend to contradict previous statements that you've made. I'll just leave it at that.

Or how about that you'd go on and on about how a horse is going to get beaten and your only basis for the statement is that you just don't like him. Doesn't have anything to do with his performances on the track, just a personal distaste. That should be another handicapping tool, the PG1985 likeability quotient.

Sheesh, when did hard races become a negative? Hard race didn't hurt Silver Charm. Didn't hurt Monarchos. Hey, War Emblem actually LOST a couple of races at FG before he shipped to Sportsmen's, and he wasn't eased. A horse NEEDS a hard race or two to get him fit and mentally tough.

amazing that anyone feels a horse losing by 1 1/2 is a better bet next time, then a horse who shows guts and determination and loses a photo!

After AGS wins, you'll see your G1 winner.

he will get beat because nobiz is a better simply a better horse.

Many 'better' horses have been beat.

I would find it utterly captivating if you had anything to offer as reasoning for Nobiz winning besides distaste for Any Given Saturday.

Neither Nobiz or AGS have the proper number of syllables to win the Ky Derby

LMAO

JDank34 04-05-2007 06:12 PM

AGS will destroy this field....AND NBLS will show once and for all that he is a 1 paced SLOW horse who is goofy as hell to boot! I firmly believe AGS is in the top 2 of his generation with Street Sense.

Mortimer 04-06-2007 10:54 AM

Mr. Foxworthy shall now make his fine selection for the Wood Memorial.

And he shall take as long as he pleases to.

AnyGivenSaturday.

He is pretty much telling you to go back to Handicapping school.

yeah, lol, ask PG 1985 about his big bet on discreet cat. no racing ,missed the prep ,going the distance first time. nobiz, bilnkers on ,lugging in, looking around during crunch time. kid, don't go heavy on this one , i'll try to save you money. i tried to teach you about handicapping last week. not saying he won't win. (i like him too) but at 7-5 its not the right time to unload, use your head this time !

Cannon Shell 04-07-2007 11:30 AM

While I hate to agree with PG I think that today is the day for No Biz to break through.

horse was carrying cornie, pg, blinkers, cotton balls, cannon and STILL WON!!

congrats

Danzig 04-07-2007 04:24 PM

looked ok too, impressed with sightseeing as well, a good race from him today-best of his career.

so, did AGS get enough earnings to get inside the bubble? earned 75k for the show. was it the plan, run good enough to get in the derby field, but don't get to the bottom of the horse? wish i had been a fly on the wall to hear the conversation to the jock before the race. AGS has never been my derby pick, and i see no reason to change that.

easy goer 04-08-2007 02:28 AM

Word is out that No Biz is slowly going blind and the blinkers were meant to focus what is left of his vision.

With the help of seeing eye dog, and a cane, he just did manage to find his way around the inner path at AQU today.

He had a right to bounce a bit coming back from the fight he had with SS. Plus the quick turn-around. I think he's at about $177k in terms of earnings at this point. I think it should be enough.

I don't love him, but assuming Scat Daddy is the Pletcher favorite on Derby Day he has the chance to be the "other" Pletcher that gets away on the board a bit and is a good value play. Plus he's a great fighter (battled Tiz Wonderful and SS in great races).

He's certainly on my short list of contenders for Derby.
