Wrestlemania XXIII predictions

As the "self-appointed" guru of professional wrestling (or like what Vince McMahon now calls "sports entertainment") on this site, here are my predictions for WWE's biggest event of the year...

"Battle of the Billionaires" - it's highly doubtful that Donald Trump will get end up with a bald head, thus I see Bobby Lashley getting the win over "The Samoan Bulldozer" Umaga. It seems that Lashley is getting a "big" push from the company although he has no personality when it comes to doing interviews. I wouldn't be surprised if "The Rock" shows up and has some bearing on the match (they teased this a few weeks ago). Stone Cold will do his usual act, but it's so old and will most likely "stun" someone.
Result: Lashley wins over Umaga...Vincent K. McMahon will be bald. correct

World Champion title match : Batista vs. The Undertaker
The undefeated streak is on the line for the "Dead Man" and it will probably continue. It's been rumored that the current champion has been a "thorn in the side" with the company of late. It's time for Batista to drop the title and could become a "heel" down the road. I read somewhere that this match could be the best of the night, knowing the Undertaker...I highly doubt it.
Result: Undertaker defeats Batista to become new World Champion correct

WWE World Championship match : John Cena vs. Shawn Micheals
The hype for this match has been overwhelming and quite frankly, I'm sick of it! The "who's gonna turn on who first" has gotten a little old. Think Micheals wins in a close one and sets up for a "Shawn vs. "HHH" (NOT ME!) when he gets back from his injury after Summerslam. Where this leaves Cena, most likely a short break from wrestling and more Hollywood movies  .
Result: New WWE champion; Shawn Micheals wrong
.
"Money in the Bank" Ladder match. I'm going with an upset here.
CM Punk gets the victory and sets up for a future title defense against Bobby Lashley at the ECW. Edge and Randy Orton will do themsleves in, setting up for a long feud in summer. It will be also interesting how the Hardy Boys will work together in this match. Can't see any of the others winning, but "Fit" Finlay is ALWAYS entertaining - especially if "Little Bastard" shows up! wrong - Kennedy!

Other matches:

The "New Breed" beats the "ECW Originals" will help from Tazz wrong

Ashley Massaro defeats Melina in the "Lumberjill" match for the Women's Title wrong

Kane defeats The Great Khali (who really cares?) wrong

Chris Benoit retains his United States title over MVP correct

That's a tough one. But I predict it will be stupid and boring and I also predict that I won't be watching.

IrishofNDMan 04-01-2007 02:03 PM

I loved wrestling 10 years ago, so I have to say that the Undertaker will win it all!

To each his own  AND IT WASN'T a April Fool's joke!

It's entertainment...would rather watch it than the NBA, NHL, golf or tennis
with the number of people who watch American Idol or any other reality shows, it's just the same...it's the ORIGINAL reality T.V. !

IrishofNDMan 04-01-2007 02:30 PM

Bret Hart is the greatest of all time!

Touché. You got me right there. I'll shut up.

After I finish saying that I still think it's stupid :D

Well, it looks like American Idol will be exposed as the fad it is. This whole thing with Sanjaya Malakar controversy. I'm surprised that someone didn't figure out how "stuff the ballot" box earlier! It's ashame that these people off the street can have so much success from this show! It's a slap in the face for the harding working people trying to make it in the music business. I guess a lot of people relate to the show because they think they can hit it big! Hopefully, this Sanjaya incident will put the end this this fraud.
At least I know that "wrestling" is fake!

What happen in Montreal after his match with Shawn Michaels certainly wasn't scripted.

Hey Hickory, what was the deal last night when Dusty Rhodes said good bye to Triple H, is he leaving WWE?

I watched Rhodes acceptance speech, I watch wrestling like twice a year, and yesterday happened to be the first time, out of the loop

Hickory Hill Hoff 04-01-2007 06:55 PM

I didn't see the Hall of Fame induction last night, I know that Dusty is the "booker" for the company and HHH is still out with an injury, all I could get was this piece on the ceremony;

Last but certainly not least was 'American Dream' Dusty Rhodes, being inducted by his sons Cody and Dustin. Dustin spoke first and he got a big "GOLDDUST" chant, even without the makeup and suit. Cody put over Golddust when he spoke, saying that Dustin helped usher in the attitude era, and doesn't get near the credit for it he deserves, and then told us all how uncommon a 'Common Man' like his father really was. At this point they showed the video package for Dusty putting over his personality and all of his accomplishments. When Dusty came out to accept his awards, his ovations were easily the equal of J.R. Dusty spoke for a long time, and even though his speech is airing right now on USA there's no way it will be near as long as there are only 8 minutes left on USA and he spoke WAY longer than that. Dusty thanked a lot of people who he came up with in the business, and said that everybody had talked a lot tonight about "passion" and how everybody here, past present and future and all the fans had a huge passion for the business. Dusty spoke a lot about "hard times" and how they all wrestled for the factory workers going through hard times, to hopefully give them some good times. He mentioned several names in the business and had them stand up to get ovations, including Triple H (huge pop), Arn Anderson and Harley Race, but when he got to John Cena he got booed and he said "Well alright I can tell where your passion is!" He says he brought a hankie with him in case he started crying, and pulls black and yellow polka dots and wipes his brow to laughter and another ovation. "I loved that time!" Dusty complains about technology, saying people ask him to e-mail them something he just said five minutes ago, and speaks about how his friend Dick Murdoch was reinvented in the form of JBL. The highlight of the speech was Dusty asking Ric Flair and Arn Anderson to stand up, telling them that right then and there he wanted them to induct him and Harley Race into the Four Horsemen, which got a huge ovation, but then Dusty got huge ovations all night. Hopefully the full speech will be included on the WrestleMania 23 DVD set. He ended by telling us "truly tonight I have dined with kings and queens." They thanked us again for attending and handed out commemorative silver medals on the way out of the Fox Theatre.

I can't....

Disagree with any of those predictions. It would shock me a bit to see the Rock. I figured he was just helpin out Vinnie Mac when he cut that promo a couple weeks back? He's the big movie star now:D

mclem10011 04-01-2007 08:44 PM

I feel problably....

Money in the bank will be the best match, alot of those guys know how to put on a show in ladder matches. Jeff Hardy is a freak! He does sick highspots, or at least he has in the past.

I think I quit watching wrestling in the 10th grade (1987). HUGE Road Warriors fan.....

those were the days....

Road Warriors
Four Horseman
Rock N Roll Express
Midnight Express
Nikita Kolov
Ivan Kolov

Loved the N.W.A. back in the day...

mclem10011 04-01-2007 08:48 PM

I haven't quit....

It's still entertaining to me, but i agree THE NWA 80'S were superior to me as well. All those groups you listed were great!

My high school book quote was from a Piels Beer commerical from the 70's with Jimmy Breslin... "It's a good drinking beer"
maybe some of the "old timers" out there may remember it. Like your quote better!

I myself am a DX fan when Triple H, China, X Pock, Road Dog Jesse James and Bad Ass Billy Gun. ha ha those were the days. Remember when they had a Tank and showed up at Ted Turners place? They had the cops called on them. I like to compare it to a day time Soap. Where I came from they some still to this day think it's real. I like all the stunts they pull off not so much the wrestling moves they do to each other. I also like when Stone Cold and Vince were going at each week. The beer truck with Austin spraying the owners and when Triple H married Steph was f'ing funny.

Yes, wrestling was much better then... with Vince owning everything now, the product isn't as good.
Too much of the DIVAS every Monday night and the story lines going nowhere.
Still, I watch it every Monday night! :p

Bad decision to make Michaels-Cena the main event. Not only was the match not particularly good (by HBK standards) but the ending was rather anticlimactic with Shawn tapping out. We just saw the same thing last week with Benoit tapping out to it. Undertaker won the Rumble and then won the title, his match absolutely should have been the main event. It actually wound up a surprisingly good match as well. Vince needs to give up his man crush on Cena and put the belt on someone else. Cena is actually a lot more entertaining when he's after the belt rather than when it is already around his waist and he gets incredibly stale and lame.

I really thought Michaels would win setting up him versus "HHH" possibly for the Survivor Series in November. For it's biggest pay-per-view of the year, it was a let down. I think Vince has to combine both "Raw & Smackdown" together as one unit, both seperate are getting a little stale.
