Thursday- Gulfstream race #7

Does anyone have a opinion on this race ? I think im going to bet #7 Red Birkin, but i am really having a hard time with underneath, and to be honest if i even like the #7 enough to bet...

dellinger63 03-28-2007 07:08 PM

I'd consider the 10 and 11.

The 7 Red Birkin has only 2 starts, and is turning back a sixteenth. Rates well and drew off in her last. I like Attfield a lot, one of the best on grass. My pick.

The 5 Looky Yonder appeals to me as McPeek is very good on the stretch out and this one's dam is a stakeswinner, and has 2 turfwinners from 5 starters. I don't think you'll catch this one at her ml of 10/1. This one may surprise and take it. Watch the board.

The 10 Sugar Baby Love, Matz's horse is an obvious choice with first lasix, I would still be skeptical with this her first race on US soil.

The 11 Remy Doodles, Orseno's horse has been off since last October, when she broke her maiden on her 4th try. This one is turning back, still time off concerns me.

Good luck.

Matz doesn't usually push his horses first race. Though it is one of Team Valor's and nobody loves his photo taken more than Irwin.

I agree that those above are the 4 to keep an eye on but I also like the Alexander entry here with Guidry for a nice price given the company in this race.

If Delta Breeze is able to position herself for a nice close there may be a monster in the making here. Especially if the speed to her right can be followed with a saving trip.

6/5,7,10/2,5,7,10,11/all for tri and super plays.

-BT- 03-29-2007 02:46 AM

using 357 10 11 in my pk3's... tough race for N1X girls on the grass.

But i really lke the #11 Remy Doodles for a live longshot: Orseno has had this horse working very solid since her October layoff. I also like the fact that this horse has faced winners (2 back in the SalemCo HDCP as a maiden), only lost by 5 1/2 lengths as you all can see she almost 30 Beyers speed figures faster when on the lawn, and also bred very well for the lawn out of Grand Slam

I really like #7 Red Birkin today. Her mdn score at 10-1 was visually impressive. Cagey conditioner Roger Attfield has given her 5 weeks rest but put three solid interim works into her, including two bullets, so she looks to be on her toes and on the improve. She should be forwardly placed which may be crucial since there doesn't look to be an abundance of early speed. I'll look to use #4 Royal Highland (12-1) underneath. KMcLaughlin may have this gal by nice grass sire Royal Academy ready to fire in her turf debut at a nice number.

Thursday-Gulfstream Race 5

This is a pretty crummy racecard, as I look further. I gotta look at Aqueduct.

Anyway, in the 5th, the 2 horse, Nunnery 5/2, trained by Mott will probaby get the most money, still having not run since September.

I like the 3 horse, Secret Witness 4/1, trained by Kimmel, though this one must have issues, as in run 1, lay off; run 2, lay off, etc. Had the rail last out, and yields late with Desormeux. (That's good.) Concerns me.

Another of interest is Guidry's mount, the 1 horse, Give No Ground 8/1. This one was beaten last out by Secret Witness, but hit the gate, and remained 5 wide. Hopefully, he gets another shot today.

Grits 03-29-2007 10:39 AM

In this race the 7-Red Birkin goes with First Time Lasix.

Scratch the 1-1a-13

im thinking the bump at the start and being a tad wide makes up for the length the 7 got beat by, i will take $5 for place though....

You did better than I typically do, Grits.

Good racing luck to you for next time!

Do you play 'em lots?

Don't give up on them if you don't play them often. I wasn't good at them when I first really started playing them last year, but I've gotten much better at hitting them since. You've only gotta hit a good one to make up for a few bad ones

That was a pep talk! :)

tap 03-29-2007 04:17 PM

Your not doing bad at all. your horses are winning or hitting the board and that's all you can ask for. Hell, none of mine even hit the board today.

Grits 03-29-2007 04:19 PM

Thank you so much Brian, I needed that dose of pep. I'm not worth .05 at exotics. And I really should know better. I rarely ever play them as they are usually money burners, though last week's $132.00 double worked pretty good late one afternoon.

That's ok though Tap, like Steve said, "you hit plenty at fine prices that make up for a lot of those misses."

tap 03-29-2007 04:43 PM

Yep. And it comes down to not having an expectation of winning every day, but of keeping the bankroll intact over a long period of time. if I go 3-4 days, or a week without a winner I don't panic. You have to stick to your guns and stay with what has worked for you. Of course, there is a point where you have to validate Whether it is still working and that is the rub.

Grits 03-29-2007 05:09 PM

Spoken so well. And as much as I'd like to know exotics, I should probably stick with flat win betting and an exacta here or there. I gave up trifectas long ago, for the most part. May bet one, but rarely.

There are MANY days that I do not win, and I do get discouraged at times, any horseplayer does; and one that says it never bothers them is lying, that is not possible, the human psyche will not allow it. After a while, not cashing will get to even the best. No matter how good they are at covering it.

tap 03-29-2007 05:25 PM

This is true. One of the things I will do if I am getting chewed up for an extended period is look at a card and key on 2 races (no more than 2) that look to have absolute locks and then I will play them, chalk and all. even if you hit just one you will have a 50% win pct that day and will make a small profit if you can get at least 6/5 on your winner. Does wonders for the confidence just watching your horse cross the line first.
