this is an outrage

Who would have thought? Professional wrestlers on steriods. Please dont tell me Jake the Snake was involved.

I especially love the comment from someone on Espn "Are they going to put an asterisk in the record books next to WWE title holders who have been linked to steroids?"

Orton, other wrestlers linked to probe of pharmacy
Associated Press

Eleven professional wrestlers, including the WWE's Randy Orton, have joined the list of athletes linked to a nationwide steroids investigation.

Notable names linked to scandal
MLB
• Gary Matthews Jr.
• Jose Canseco
• John Rocker
• Jerry Hairston Jr.
• David Bell

Boxing
• Evander Holyfield

NFL
• Richard Rydze (Steelers doctor)

Bodybuilding
• Victor Martinez

Pro wrestling
• Kurt Angle
• Randy Orton
• Adam Copeland (Edge)
• Shane Helms (The Hurricane)
• Oscar Gutierrez (Rey Mysterio)
• Eddie Guerrero*

*Died in 2005

SI.com reported Monday that Orton allegedly received eight prescriptions for six different drugs -- including stanozolol, nandrolone and testosterone -- between March 2004 and August 2004. According to the documents SI.com reviewed, two doctors whose names also appear in Gary Matthews Jr.'s file wrote prescriptions for Orton.

Orton, through the WWE, declined comment, SI.com said.

In its review of documents, SI.com reported it found Adam Copeland, a.k.a. "Edge," and Shane Helms, a.k.a. "The Hurricane," received HGH from Applied Pharmacy in Mobile, Ala., one of the pharmacies raided in the investigation led by Albany, N.Y., District Attorney David Soares.

Through the WWE, Copeland and Helms didn't respond to a request for comment, SI.com said.

Lori, too funny you mention Jake the Snake Roberts. I was surfing the net the other night and googled a "where are they now" website...and on the sight I landed on, who was there but Jake the Snake. Pretty sad story. He was last seen over on England, distrubiting pamphlets, offering to do wrestling seminars at town halls.

I was always of "Boogie Woogie Man" fan meself...

There is no way the ex Phil and current Brewers player David Bell (if thats Bell there referring too)is on steroids, If he was on it sure did not help him at all when he played for the Fightins Phils

Here's a list of wrestlers who died from heart attacks in their 40's, mostly likely all were from steroid use.

Bam Bam Bigelow
Eddy Guerrero
Hercules Hernandez
Big Boss Man
"Mr.Perfect" Curt Hennig
Road Warrior Hawk
Crash Holly
The Wall
Chris Candido
Eddie Gilbert
Brian Pillman
Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy
Russ Haas (Charlie's brother)
Rick McGraw
Rick Rude
"Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer
"British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith
Louie Spicolli
Moondog Spot (had the attack while wrestling)
Big John Studd (liver cancer from ???)
David Von Erich (the first prominent one in 1984)
Yokozuna
Jay Youngblood

All these wrestlers were under the age of 50 and some in thier 30's...very sad commentary from drug use

timmgirvan 03-21-2007 05:28 AM

don't forget "Miss Elizabeth"! Dead at 42, living with Lex Luger. RIP

docicu3 03-21-2007 05:42 AM

Drug overdose...that causes the heart to stop too.
At the time, Luger looked like he would be implicated in her death
but no charges were filed.

Most of them were on way more than just steroids and a few were probably not even on steroids at all. They were all abusing painkillers, amphetamines, and sleeping pills back then. That is what being on the road wrestling matches 330 days a year will do to you.

But, all their hearts stopped beating when most men should be healthy.

That was a great gimmick Helms had, especially for the younger fans
they shouldn't have given it up!

I love pro wrestling but it is a terribly demanding lifestyle...like others have said, constantly on the road, wrestling almost every day...one mistake and you can be crippled or worse. The old guys medicated with alcohol...lots of alcohol. Back then, body size not shape was all that mattered...Dusty never won any beauty contests but the fans loved him, Abdulah the Butcher probably had the worst looking body of any man in history but boy was he scary! The "pretty boy" mindset is what has doomed modern wrestlers...sad really!

macho man randy savage was my personal favorite.

I remember crying when Jake the Snake's snake bit him. I think i was 10 years old or something.

LOL! I loved Jake the Snake, he just never seemed to get his life together. One of those guys who was always on the doorstep of stardom but never could keep himself going...like Diamond Dallas Paige.

I was flipping channels the other night and caught the most recent episode of Hogan knows best. There was a pretty interesting conversation between Hogan and McMahon on it. McMahon basically told him it was time for him to return full time and that his appearances every couple of months were no longer beneficial for the wwe....He told him to cut way back on his being around his family and strap up the boots full time...Hogan can't even walk anymore....McMahon is a viscious business man and takes no prisoners....After all Hogan has done for the McMahon empire and at 53 being told to get back in that ring and make them more $$$ is absurd....

packerbacker7964 03-25-2007 08:58 PM

This is what gets me. Guys like these and Michael Vick doing stupid things. If I'm taking something illegal it's getting mailed to my buddies house who in turn makes a small profit to keep my name out of it. Like Vick though get a private jet and pay a yearly fee and buy hours on it when you need to travel. No airports to deal with, smoke all of the weed you want. I think you pay 250 grand then you buy hours on it a few days in advance and go where you want too. Plus dudes a millionaire and carrying an ounce or less of the stuff. I'd had someone in my posse claim it was theirs or just thrown it away. Lastly who is this guys P.R. people? He just keeps bringing it back up when everyone else droppedit. He's now saying that was where he keeps his jewelry.
