It's like Christmas morning.

Coach Pants 03-15-2007 08:41 PM

Coach K is washed up. He hasn't had a real contender in years.

Washed up?
OMG. I will say Duke does not have the players they have had in the past. But if Coach K is washed up, Pillow has no desire to ever place a bet again.
K will get players again.
And I still dont get the Duke hatred entirely. Guess I am from the wrong part of the country.

Out of all of their players I will take McRoberts, and thats about it. If Paulus is a point guard, I am a 5' 6" center. He is a gutsy little kid, but he cannot be the show, he just does not have the quickness or athleticism. Any PG having that much trouble bringing the ball up the court man up... not good.

skippy3481 03-15-2007 09:06 PM

I'm not a duke fan but if the team was any younger they would be playing AAU ball. It't the strong team of games past but they'll be better next year. P hit the nail on the head, paulus is just not a solid point guard. Also, I totally dont understand the love fest the announcers have with McRoberts. The kid is a decent player, but these guys talk as if he's the second coming

He should of been the starting QB at Syracuse

Upside. He can use both hands, he handles the ball very well. He has multiple inside moves. Playing out of position. I did not know the announcers loved him though. He is not Kevin Durant, but I think he is very versatile and could possibly be a decent 3 or 4 on the pro level. Definitely not a center though. And thats where Duke must play him.

McRoberts would look great next to a good big man. Put McRoberts on Ohio State next to Oden and you would definitely hear all about him. I think he is the only player on the Duke team the opposition fears one on one. And he is playing the wrong role, but he must on the team Duke puts on the floor. Got to be a bit frustrating for the kid.

IrishofNDMan 03-15-2007 09:17 PM

I hate Duke just as much as the rest, but Coach K being washed up. lol Are you serious?? I guess 2004 must seem like it was 50 years ago, because if my memory is right (which I know it is), he coached Duke to the Final 4 where they played the soon to be National Champion Huskies toe to toe. I hate Duke, but Coach K is not washed up.

I can't believe I agree with an Irish Fan:eek:

Grits 03-15-2007 09:21 PM

Hasn't anyone from the South ever taught y'all how to spell--Dook--?

Well, now you know. And it's always spelled this way when they lose.

That guard they have, I think he is a freshman, Carter? That kid is something. I like the ND basketball team.

But I still dont get the Duke hatred. Rich kid private school? Or they just win too much?

IrishofNDMan 03-15-2007 09:51 PM

Russell Carter is #43 and he is a senior. The freshman guard you are talking about is Tory Jackson, hell of a player.

Coach Pants 03-15-2007 10:15 PM

Coach K did a horrible job of getting those kids ready for competitive basketball. I don't care if they're 12 year olds...judging by their conditioning you could make a case that a few of them could be that young.

He won't win jack **** with the kids he has now and by the time he gets some talent he'll be too old to coach them. Also if you watch Duke every year on a regular basis you'll notice he's getting a little senile.

ALSO Roy Williams is beating him on the court and in the recruiting war.

Stick a fork in Coach "F-Bomb" K

The kid has great instincts on the court and could be the
premier point guard in the Big East the next couple of years.
You know he's going to be fighter on the court being around
13 brothers and sisters in his family

Coach Pants 03-15-2007 10:19 PM

Also...

The Duke hatred card is way overplayed. The only real reason why I dislike Duke is due to Dick Vitale acting like he's having an orgasm whenever he talks about them. Coach K, "RICKY!" Pitino and the rest of the moose-eh-rella clan should get a suite in Vegas and sanctify their marriage.

skippy3481 03-15-2007 10:19 PM

I'll lay my money on scottie reynolds for best pg of the future, but jackson is solid.

IrishofNDMan 03-15-2007 10:20 PM

haha yeah that is crazy, Tory is the second youngest of 14 children, and has niner older brothers. I have one older brother that has made me tougher, so what do you think 9 would do to you? He will be a stud PG in the Big East in the years to come along with that freshman PG on Villanova by the name of Reynolds I think.

DJ Augustin from Texas has improved immeasurably. I cannot believe how good this kid has become. I think he could be drafted along with Durant, but I think most likely teams will want to see another year. I think he has got to be one of the top 3 PGs in the nation.

Ima tellin you guys to watch this kid. He does not give up his dribble a la Nash. His head is always up and he scoots thru huge crowds with ease.

I wish the Spurs had this kid right now. Perfect point guard type, my type anyway. Bullish and low to the ground... see the entire floor, basically use both hands equally well (again a la Nash) and not so incredibly athletic that they rely only on their athleticism and dont use their smarts (Tony Parker would be my example... and this might be the reason a guy like Dwayne Wade may not be a long time guard like Stockton). After the athleticism diminishes, what do you have left?

DJ AUGUSTIN

skippy3481 03-15-2007 10:45 PM

Augustine is having a great year. Needs another year in school to get his head right. He's young and is prone to freshman mistakes. Another pg i enjoy watching is conley from Ohio state. Watched him and oden play their college ball right down the road from me. When ohio state recruited oden they took conley as a sweetner. That turned out to be a pretty good recruit. He needs to develope more of a jump shot, but he's awfully quick to the rim. Reynolds may be the most rounded freshman pg though. He just didn't get much press this year.

pgardn 03-15-2007 11:05 PM

Reynolds and Augustin from mid year..

## Player Nam FG-FGA FG-FGA FT-FTA OF DE TOT PF TP A TO BLK S MIN
REYNOLDS, Scottie... g 6-15 2-6 12-13 1 4 5 3 26 6 4 0 3 38
14 Augustin, D.J....... g 7-14 5-6 6-8 0 2 2 4 25 4 2 0 1 32

I call it a wash but Villanova won the game against a blossoming Texas team.

skippy3481 03-15-2007 11:12 PM

Paul, you have to remember though that texas is a loaded team. Reynolds was expected to carry much more of the load then augustine was. Durant is such a bailout for a pg, because he can play high or low. As of right now i'd take reynolds, but you could make a case for either one. Rey

Ummm

actually, Conley initially committed to OSU

and he brought Oden along as a package

Mike Conley Sr. (apparently to be Oden's agent), and, I believe, coach of their AAU team, didn't care for Mike Davis (can you blame him?) at IU and passed it along to his son who passed it along to Oden.

Anyone else but Davis at IU and Oden stays home.

Augustin does have Durant.

But Texas starts 4 freshman and 1 sophmore... Zero starters back from last year. This in part explains how horrible Texas was in the first half of the year imo, and why they are much better now. They still go out because they have zero interior D.

And I had heard that Oden story. Very interesting.

She is not alone.

I hate them because they didn't even belong in this Tournament and they got in, they get way more calls than they are due, they rarely travel for non-conference, and everyone has this false image of how all of the players are smart and good people. Ever wonder why so many Duke players major in Sociology? Because it's a Degree designed to get them through school, they get credit for classes even while playing overseas. I know this stuff goes on at all schools, but there's this perception that it doesn't happen at Duke, which is total bull.

Pointg5 03-16-2007 05:06 AM

Well done Pillow, that was hilarious.

At every Cincinnati home game they show highlights of past teams, they always finish with UC beating Duke on a last second shot, it's kind of lame, but I get a kick out of it every time. Huggins is a terrible in game coach, but for that one time, he outcoached that little weasel.

Less at Duke than at other schools, no doubt in my mind. Look at what many ex-Duke kids do. Look at what ex-Cinn. and now ex-Kansas State kids do... jail time. Duke is clearly not the U (Miami) of basketball.

I think its the spoiled rich kid thing. I watch Christian Laettner on the sideline and I see a spoiled rich kid for some reason. Besides, Duke's student fan base invented that pogo hop that now has become the new wave that really gets old.

Duke will be right back next year. A good incoming class.

Yes conley committed but he was not a stud in high school, why would ohio state go after him, ah yes, because oden was his best friend. Conley crapped himself when ohio state offered him a scholorship and accepted it right away, guess how many other big time programs were looking at him..... Oden had always said he wanted conley to be with him when he went to college. Now, I'm not a basketball coach but if i have a top recruit that said he'd love to play with a high school teamate, i would go out of my way to sign him as early as possible. Ohio state recruited conley to get to oden. Not the other way around.

skippy3481 03-16-2007 09:25 AM

Everyone hated mike davis, but i have to say he was a hell of nice guy.
