hemingway's key & bernardini

wow after hemingway's key truly brilliant performance today i have to take back all of the disparaging things i said about bernardini and his competition last summer.
considering that bernardini had to tangle with that superstar multiple times, he really must be the greatest horse in the history of the universe.

POINTGIVEN1985 03-10-2007 03:04 PM

what is the point of this post ? did you bet hk, and now your upset and had to post something ? if bernardini were still in training he'd easily be one of the top 3 horses in the world, i dont even consider hk a good horse

dear god no!! who in their right mind would bet on that horse?

 You're acting like Hemingway's Key ever got within a pole of Bernardini.

i think he was closer to bernardini than he was to istan today (he finished last over 18 lengths behind). i guess it is time for those "just give istan HOY now" threads to start popping up. isn't that what happens when you soundly defeat hemingway's key?

Yeah, because it was only after he beat Hemingway's Key that those threads started popping up.

I'm finding it harder and harder to believe that you had a dime on Invasor in the Breeders' Cup. If you really made such a killing off being "right" about Bernardini, why would you feel the need to make a thread like this four months after the horse retires, when no one is even discussing him? It sounds like you feel a hell of a lot more bitter than you do vindicated.

Ding Ding Ding.

you know i made money on invasor in the bcc. i told everyone for about a week before the race that he was my pick. i even had it as my signature.
as for being bitter....you are right about that. i really didn't like the way people who were legitimately questioning this horse last year were treated, so i take every reasonable opportunity to question this horse. given that hemingway's key was in the $ in two of bern's biggest victories, i thought his dismal performance today reinforced the things i was saying last year about bern's competition.

1) let me state again that i absolutely did not bet on hemingway's key. i have never placed a single wager on a race at tampa bay in my life.
2) do i need a pat on the back for picking invasor? no. ateamstupid is the one that brought up me picking invasor.
3) your argument that this stuff happened 4 or 5 moths ago and is therefore not important is even more absurd than your other points. don't we talk about/debate horses that raced 5 or 10 or 35 years ago on this board? do you respond to all of those posts with "Why bring this up now?"
if you have any other points that you would like me to destroy with logic, please feel free to continue posting them on this thread.

if you look, i really did not start this as a "i was right" thread. as for being a one hit wonder, that is more true than you know. i was having a nightmare of a bc all day. i couldn't hit a thing until the classic.

Man, I don't care, you can post whatever you want. I'm just letting you know that you sound real bitter about SOMETHING (my guess is you didn't have Invasor, DaHoss says you bet HK, maybe it's both), and your excuses for beating this dead (or retired) horse are weak.

dude you called it you got your props..dini is still a fine horse and id bet big money that if he were to still be racing he would beat invasor 50 perc of the time..cheap shot..

i told you....i am bitter about the bern-hype from last year. that's it. i did bet invasor and i didn't bet hk. i guess you will just have to take my word on that. i don't claim to be a great handicapper. i know i've lost a lot more $$ than i've won over the years, and i'll gladly fess up to the ones i get wrong.
the bernmafia just really rubbed me the wrong way last year. i guess in part because i am huge fan of secretariat and barbaro. i still remember when bern won the jim dandy last year one of them started a thread called "barbaro who?" and then they started talking about how he was better than secretariat. frankly stuff like that (and there was a lot of it) just pissed me off, and so, i take every opportunity to rip the horse.

But this isn't that. this was another "look I was right in the BC Classic". Well good job, you picked a winner. Where were you after HK's last race? Honestly no one will argue that HK is not exactly the cream of the crop in the US handicap division. My why bring it up now is in regards to bernardini. What exactly was the point of this thread than, if not to gloat months after the fact that Invasor beat Bernardini? I love when people start a thread with something in mind, then after called on it play the "aww shucks folks what are you guys talking about?" Very cool.

well i actually had no way of knowing that me picking invasor in the classsic was going to come up. how many people even remember that? i know ateamstupid does because we had a big discussion/argument about it, but if he hadn't been on tonight (and i didn't know he was) i doubt if it would have come up. i intended this thread to be about the sorry level of competition bernardini competed against last year.
as for bringing it up after hk's last race....i would have if i had known he had raced! this is the first time i heard his name this year.

hoovesupsideyourhead 03-10-2007 07:35 PM

can you say..praise me.............next thing ill see typed is how the salukis will beat gorgetown...argggggggggg:confused:

think what you will man....but i am not looking for praise. i mean honestly it wansn't exactly the pick of the century. the horse was coming off of 3 straight g1 wins. he wasn't exactly 99/1. THOUSANDS of people picked him. and for the last time....I AM NOT THE ONE THAT BROUGHT THAT PICK UP!!!!

miraja2 03-10-2007 08:30 PM

avance,
Yes Bernardini's competition last year was quite poor.
Yes he was extremely overhyped.
The problem is, that would be true if HK won today, or finished last today, or scratched today, or covered a mare today, or made sweet stallion-on-stallion love with War Emblem today. What he did today has nothing really to do with anything that happened last year.
You said you want to take "every reasonable opportunity to rip this horse." Fine, but this wasn't one of them.

That's fine. But how long are you going to have this chip on your shoulder? I didn't like all the Barbaro = Secretariat hype last year. Do I make a thread every time Sharp Humor or Brother Derek or Sinister Minister or any of those other god awful horses he beat in the Derby loses? No, because that's extremely petty, proves no point and does nothing other than make me look bitter.

There should be a statute of limitations on chest-thumping.

Pointg5 03-11-2007 10:24 AM

Geez, let it go advance, Bernardini was a fine horse, not one of the greats, but this is a little silly...

Bold Reasoning 03-11-2007 02:26 PM

To me the Bernardini bashing is something like the Mineshaft bashing of 2003. Maybe people who do this resent horses that are bred to the purple, especially sons of A.P. Indy. It is just a thought, but I remember someone at another forum who frequently took cheap shots at A.P. Indy.
