Worst TV racing commentator/analyst ever!

We have a worst Jockey thread,so as I was watching HRTV today,I thought I would start one for the analyst's.Mine is Joanne Jones. This woman annoys me like no other. If there is an analyst who handicaps after the fact and has the guts to CLAIM it was her pick,it is her.I think she is only hired in hopes of attracting viewers because she looks halfway decent.
While she was at TVG,And I have this on tape,She was asked by Greg Wolf about Funny cide and if she liked him for the derby. This woman claimed up and down that she was through with Funny Cide, that there was no way he would win the derby. After he won,and I also have this one on tape, she was out there tooting her horn that Funny Cide was her choice for the derby and Preakness.I bombarded TVG with emails about this ,and how I thought this woman was a complete fraud and informed them of the past shows and the statements she had made about Funny Cide with dates and times of the shows.I never heard anything back about it from TVG,but needless to say,she soon left TVG for where she is now.I can't stand her!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do not know this man's name! Last year during Derby week, he was a commentator for ESPN. I think he is a regular with them, but I do not think it is with horses. His voice grates on me; it was so bad during that week that I kept skipping his sections. He is nice-looking, in his late thirties or early forties. I am probably the only person in the 50 states annoyed by him.

Rules out Hank Goldberg

Cannon Shell 03-08-2007 01:46 PM

Almost all of them are bad with a few exceptions.

Even a liberal wouldn't be satisfied with the current level of quality of racings TV commentators

avance2000 03-08-2007 02:15 PM

hank goldberg. he is a bad analyst, but the worst part about him is he is always completely unprepared when they ask him a question.

SCUDSBROTHER 03-08-2007 02:20 PM

I'd say that Clown, Ken Rudolph, is the worst. I still can't believe he asked the owners of Thor's Echo how much they got for him.

No offense to him, but Hank Goldberg really bothers me.

maybe because he is a slob?

Danzig 03-08-2007 06:15 PM

hank always seems to be choking down a huge bite of twinkie without a drink to aid him when they cut to him. i keep thinking he's going to do a liz taylor w/ chicken bone impression or something. he just seems so uncomfortable.

i can't handle tom hammonds. he's always freaked me out a bit. maybe it's all the makeup. i think he cakes on more in a day then i've worn my entire life!

i always enjoyed jim mckay. now that guy did his job and did it well.

pmayjr 03-08-2007 06:31 PM

Nationally? Hammerin' Hank without a doubt...

Kevin Gorg, the Canterburry track analyst handicapper guy kinda sucks too... I mean he's well spoken, has a good camera presence, but his picks are lousy... But then again, so are the Beulah chicks lol.

Hickory Hill Hoff 03-08-2007 06:55 PM

What ever happen to Chris Lincoln?
Some of my buddy's from the "valley" really got on his case one year at Saratoga during an ESPN broadcast...
maybe you remember that incident (estreet)

Hank's a nice man.

Merlinsky 03-08-2007 07:24 PM

If you didn't know better you'd think Hank had stage fright or something. He sounds really nervous to be on tv. Quint had me doubled over laughing so so hard when he talked to Harry Aleo. If I were one of the desk guys I'd have had a hard time not laughing my tail off when they cut back to me on that one.

Was it Chris McCarron that they tried to bring on after his retirement and it was just the most horrific thing to watch? I really liked him as a jockey but that was painful.

I don't care what anybody says, "I'm only gonna say it once" Kenny Mayne's a hoot. The only thing he's ever done that sounded a little funky is say 'Invasor...he is the best' with such a Jose Jimenez accent only about 50 times. I'll be kinda glad when Invasor retires so I don't have to hear it anymore. That said there are some of the most random things that make me chuckle and I enjoy watching him crack up Randy Moss. I wanna see more Muttonchops.

Icky me too.....
Jeff Siegal irritates me greatly as well.

txshorns02 03-08-2007 07:40 PM

I would have to go with Jerry Bailey...dont get me wrong...he was a great jockey and a great announcer but his voice is too squicky and it gets annoying to me ...thats just my opinion

if it wasnt Horse Racing I would have to say Randy Peterson (PBA announcer for ESPN)

Its so big compaired to his body...

Danzig 03-08-2007 07:45 PM

it's just an odd shape or something. maybe a combo of shape and hairline. but i don't think i'd miss him if he wasn't there. but the gate thing he did was informative.

another i can't deal with is that woman they have with the hat--she's ditzy. referred to the mannings as the peyton bros.

Wish they would have done some changes to it for Breeders Cup since they used the SAME exact on for the Derby...(they might have used it for all the Triple Crown races not sure though)

txshorns02 03-08-2007 07:50 PM

I also cant stand Mike Battagelia... he can't handicap (unless the favorite wins), call races, or commentate for the life of him...they should send him to the pastor

Uncle Daddy 03-08-2007 08:17 PM

Mike Battaglia on NBC wins with the phony Bob Costas a close second. Iggy whateshisname from TVG a distant third.

You got that right!!!

randallscott35 03-08-2007 08:38 PM

The single worst interviewer on TV in any capacity is Leslie Stahl....There is no close second.

The Janis Joplin reference he made during this year's Sunshine Million broadcast was priceless, comparing the outside post at Gulfstream to bad acid trips.

Samarta 03-08-2007 08:52 PM

Battaglia and Bailey are horrible....

deltagulf 03-08-2007 09:28 PM

by vote goes to two people. hank goldberg and mike battagelia
both are bad in by book. enough said.
