corinthian

are we looking at a possible horse of the year ? i realize there is a long long way to go, but he has looked super and the numbers hes getting are real big, i know there is invasor on the east and lava man out west, but at this point i think corinthian is right there with those 2 horses, i think if they hooked up today it would be a competitive race and i dont feel there should be a clear cut favorite, i know at this point lava man and invasor are alot more accomplished, but i have always liked corinthian and he seems to be the up and coming horse in the handicap division and if he stays healthy i think he has a shot to have a huge year, also out of the 3 of them corinthian still has room to improve he is a lightly raced 4 year old, i doubt we have seen his best already, and with his breeding, connections and raw talent he has to have alot of room to improve which is scary considering some of the races hes already ran

I'm a huge fan of this horse but also recognize that he isn't the soundest of horses and am not even going to think about HOY until I think he might actually stay healthy all year. I also think he is the second best horse out there and won't beat Invasor if he comes back from Dubai. I just love it though that Jerkens wants to bring him back in the Excelsior which does nothing for the stallion resume. Gotta love it when they actually race a race horse instead of just sitting on a G2 winner until a G1 shows up.

Edit - I should add that if Discreet Cat and Premium Tap comeback from Dubai as well they may be better than him

POINTGIVEN1985 03-05-2007 09:43 PM

i definitly agree with you guys about those other horses, but not all horses comeback from dubai the same, and my feeling is even if they all comeback the same i think corinthian is a very serious racehorse and could beat some of those other guys

Could, yes, but he also could be retired tomorrow. After all, he has done enough. I just hope we get to see him square off against Invasor.

Tough to say given pace scenarios but I think Invasor is about 4-5 lengths better than what Corinthian has shown. Not to say Corinthian can't show more but there's no way we can know until they face off.

Invasor by 2. . . But Discreet Cat is better than both

And I'm sure he'll prove it by winning the Godolphin Mile.

He's going to enter in both, I'm still hopeful they enter him in the World Cup but I'm expecting they take this excuse to keep him undefeated in the Mile.

POINTGIVEN1985 03-05-2007 10:15 PM

if corinthian stays sound , and the big 3 comeback from dubai, then we will have a great year of horse racing. but those are both huge question marks.

And most importantly they can claim it helps them towards their goal of winning every race on the card. Of course they'll conveniently forget their claim that he was skipping the BC Classic for the Dubai World Cup.

Anyone else think Shiekh Hamdan is playing hardball?

I remember just three years ago being all psyched that Ghostzapper, Roses in May, Saint Liam, Eddington and Funny Cide were all pointing to the Whitney. Then when only Saint Liam showed up because three were retired and one was slow it seemed like a total letdown. The end result was we wound up with the race of the year between Commentator and Saint Liam and both topping a 120 Beyer. So I guess what I'm saying is don't get too hopeful that the top horses now are around come August but at the same time don't think that means we won't see new horses emerge and do great things.

I think Corinthian would get destroyed by either Discreet Cat or Invasor. And probably Premium Tap as well. In Corinthian's comeback race, there really was no speed in the race and he got first run on Jazil. Again, on Saturday, there was a definite lack of speed yet despite the good trip, Corinthian looked like he was trying to get out, and had his head turned and was all out to beat the pace disadvantaged He'sanoldsalt.

Yeah, and he's already blemished one of their stallions resume and looks determined to do it again.

I don't think he's out to get his brothers, they just all happen to want to win the same races.......

I don't think he's out to get his brothers, I just think he's not willing to back down for their prized stallions to improve their resume. If he wants to run somewhere he will regardless of whether it means taking on Bernardini or Discreet Cat.

I think it's going to be a hell of a race. Imagine how lucky we would be if all 3 come out of the race and run here in the US after. Well I'd be happy with 1 of the 3 but I guess I'm just wishful thinking.

I just hope the real Invasor shows up this time, not the one that lost to Testimony and Flemme De Passion last time. Yeah, if two out of three made it back to the states it would be pretty awesome.

Dreamers

You guys, its the beginning of March, go have a few beers and resume this conversation after the summer. HOY in March, come on.

BTW, I am a big Corinthian backer, I saw both his races at gulfstream last year and both this year on track. He has a habit of getting out late in his races. Hesanoldsalt and AP Arrow are no Invasors. I saw Invasor in his race at Gulfsteam and stood and applauded, I didnot do so for Corinthian although I was very pleased he did well. That said, Corinthian is no Invasor. ;)

tycharles01 03-06-2007 09:33 AM

Only way Corinthian is HOY is if they dont let any of the horses out of Dubai!!!!

At least 4 or 5 horses racing over there are better than him

i dont know about that

Linny 03-06-2007 10:36 AM

I like Corinthian as well but lets face it, he just turned the tables on the horse that beat him by open lengths last summer, Hesanoldsalt. His wins this season, while good have come over horses that NO ONE is considering HOY/Eclipse Award types, as of now.
I hope he stays sound and improves and gets to face Invasor and DC. Both those two came back from Dubai very well last year and are thus proven travelers. As much as I'd like to see him back, I fear we may have seen the last of Premium Tap. I followed him from his 2yo season and was thrilled to see him finally live up to my expectations.

SentToStud 03-06-2007 10:48 AM

Agree w/ Linny. Corinthian looked good but if 'Salt had been able to push through inside a little better at the 5/16 pole, we'd be talking about how Corinthian got beat by a decent but not outstanding horse. For whatever reason when they were three across 'Salt didn't really push through. Maybe the horse didn't like being pinned in there or the rider got cute. All I know is they were dead even then Corinthian put two lengths on 'Salt by the 1/4 pole and 'Salt just couldn't get there. Another foot or two out of Hesanoldsalt and there'd perhaps be a thread titled, "Corinthian Exposed." But Corinthian did look good and no reason he can't improve through the year.

im banking on him improving, he is a lightly raced 4yr old that can still improve, in my original post on this thread i talked about how i think he still can improve alot

robfla 03-06-2007 12:49 PM

i think he needs more seasoning. He is too lightly raced to take on the real big horses. definately tons of raw talent though.

i couldnt have said it better, tons of raw talent, thats what i see when i watch this horse, a horse that could be great if he can put it all together

Bold Reasoning 03-06-2007 02:26 PM

I wonder if Darley is looking at him as more than their competition. He has a magnificent pedigree to go with that talent. I do not think Centennial would sell, but everyone is human.
