corinthian
are we looking at a possible horse of the year ? i realize there is a long long way to go, but he has looked super and the numbers hes getting are real big, i know there is invasor on the east and lava man out west, but at this point i think corinthian is right there with those 2 horses, i think if they hooked up today it would be a competitive race and i dont feel there should be a clear cut favorite, i know at this point lava man and invasor are alot more accomplished, but i have always liked corinthian and he seems to be the up and coming horse in the handicap division and if he stays healthy i think he has a shot to have a huge year, also out of the 3 of them corinthian still has room to improve he is a lightly raced 4 year old, i doubt we have seen his best already, and with his breeding, connections and raw talent he has to have alot of room to improve which is scary considering some of the races hes already ran

Edit - I should add that if Discreet Cat and Premium Tap comeback from Dubai as well they may be better than him |
i definitly agree with you guys about those other horses, but not all horses comeback from dubai the same, and my feeling is even if they all comeback the same i think corinthian is a very serious racehorse and could beat some of those other guys

if corinthian stays sound , and the big 3 comeback from dubai, then we will have a great year of horse racing. but those are both huge question marks.

Anyone else think Shiekh Hamdan is playing hardball? |

I think Corinthian would get destroyed by either Discreet Cat or Invasor. And probably Premium Tap as well. In Corinthian's comeback race, there really was no speed in the race and he got first run on Jazil. Again, on Saturday, there was a definite lack of speed yet despite the good trip, Corinthian looked like he was trying to get out, and had his head turned and was all out to beat the pace disadvantaged He'sanoldsalt.

Dreamers
You guys, its the beginning of March, go have a few beers and resume this conversation after the summer. HOY in March, come on.
BTW, I am a big Corinthian backer, I saw both his races at gulfstream last year and both this year on track. He has a habit of getting out late in his races. Hesanoldsalt and AP Arrow are no Invasors. I saw Invasor in his race at Gulfsteam and stood and applauded, I didnot do so for Corinthian although I was very pleased he did well. That said, Corinthian is no Invasor. ;) |
Only way Corinthian is HOY is if they dont let any of the horses out of Dubai!!!!
At least 4 or 5 horses racing over there are better than him |

I like Corinthian as well but lets face it, he just turned the tables on the horse that beat him by open lengths last summer, Hesanoldsalt. His wins this season, while good have come over horses that NO ONE is considering HOY/Eclipse Award types, as of now.
I hope he stays sound and improves and gets to face Invasor and DC. Both those two came back from Dubai very well last year and are thus proven travelers. As much as I'd like to see him back, I fear we may have seen the last of Premium Tap. I followed him from his 2yo season and was thrilled to see him finally live up to my expectations. |
Agree w/ Linny. Corinthian looked good but if 'Salt had been able to push through inside a little better at the 5/16 pole, we'd be talking about how Corinthian got beat by a decent but not outstanding horse. For whatever reason when they were three across 'Salt didn't really push through. Maybe the horse didn't like being pinned in there or the rider got cute. All I know is they were dead even then Corinthian put two lengths on 'Salt by the 1/4 pole and 'Salt just couldn't get there. Another foot or two out of Hesanoldsalt and there'd perhaps be a thread titled, "Corinthian Exposed." But Corinthian did look good and no reason he can't improve through the year.

i think he needs more seasoning. He is too lightly raced to take on the real big horses. definately tons of raw talent though.

I wonder if Darley is looking at him as more than their competition. He has a magnificent pedigree to go with that talent. I do not think Centennial would sell, but everyone is human.
