I think I might have won a satellite at Arlington

to the NTRA/DRF Handicapping Contest on April 7th at Arlington Trackside

I had 3 winners and 2 seconds from races 5-9 at Gulfstream. There is only three ways I could have lost and that is someone with all five winners, someone with 5 winners and a 1 second, or someone with 4 winners, 1 third and his tiebreaker ran well in the 10th......(Prices didn't matter, you got 5pts for 1st, 3pts for 2nd, 1 pt for 3rd, tiebreaker was Race 10, and if you had the same horse, then closest to the tri payout)

Free $175 entry at stake, plus a $1,000 bonus prize to compete against the other 8 OTB's in the April 7th, best finishing of the 9 gets the $1,000. Will know for sure on Monday....

pmayjr 02-24-2007 05:38 PM

GL to you man... I've been trying to qualify to that for about 5 years now and have come agonizingly close a couple of times. This is the weekly contest goin on at the CBY right now-

I'm sittin pretty good. In 15th through a month, but it goes all the way to the Derby, so a long way to go (my name is Peter May Jr. when looking at the list... I bet y'all never woulda guessed that lol)-

Guys,
Is Chi-town gettin pelted with snow like MPLS?

Scav 02-24-2007 05:39 PM

My hopes are pretty high. There are only three other combo's that beat me, and there was a $18 horse in there and a $15 horse in there, the 8th race was a freebie but the others are questionable IMO. I think I have about a 90% chance of winning it knowing that I have 3 winners and two 2nds

not yet, but it is coming, I have a poker tourney tonight also that I HAVE TO WIN, all these people better show up, otherwise I am off to OTB and TILT CITY

pmayjr 02-24-2007 05:42 PM

Poker is the Devil... I'm ok at it, but no luck. I play it as a matter of convenience. You can't go to the track at 10 PM on a WED night, so it leaves poker w/the guys instead. It's really snowing hard here. We're supposed to get 10+ inches

I am glad they got rid of online poker, it was BS but I was always sucked in. I am a much better live player....

pmayjr 02-24-2007 05:44 PM

Totally me too... I was beiginnig to think Poker Stars was rigged. But I got sucked in anyways. Those huge tourneys they'd have... It was fun, but agonizing all at the same time. I'd make all the right moves, for a bunch of ridiculous 1 outers to beat me.

How many people were in it against you?

The post time favorite won 3 of the 5---and was 2nd in another. The only race the favorite didn't run 1-2 in, a 6/1 Pletcher and Prado beat a 3/1 shot.

I'd say if the field size was 50 or more people--at best you'd have to win the tiebreaker.

If it's less than 50 people, you have an ok shot of an outright victory, but will probably have to win a tiebreaker with 1 or 2 other people.

Either way...best of luck...hope you win

Us DTer's could be in store for yet another round of -

No idea how many people but the favorites won in races that were large fields. There is only three combinations out of 121 total combinations. I don't know. I am more worried about the bootleg tracking system they have and who is tracking it. Haber knows the guy pretty well

Another thing, picks had to be in 10 minutes before the FIRST contest race so I think for someone to have the first three winners (races 5-6-7) is pretty tough. 8th race winner was a gimme so I expect 85% of the people to have that one, and that last race was not a gimme as far as the 3.

What is even more crazy is that I didn't even handicapp at all, they changed the track on me (it was suppose to be Hawthorne) so I just got an entry sheet and picked the horses. pretty hilarious.

Then I went to this poker tourney tonight, and was the first one knocked out.....BLAH

AeWingnut 02-25-2007 09:45 AM

I play in Hold 'em tournaments. Last time I was getting short stack. Never had a single winner. Didn't even fold a winner pre-flop or otherwise. Got pocket Jacks decided to go all in Had the best hand pre-flop, after the flop and on the turn... Ofcourse we all know how these stories end. Yep sucked out on the river.

I hate handicapping tournaments that don't consider odds. Why should someone be allowed to win that doesn't have more in $$ at the end of the day than someone that just picks the fav in every race.

The ones I have played only required that you bet a minimum % of your total bankroll. That way a person with a lot has to continue to risk a lot. For some reason I managed to put a lot on my losers ad a little on my winners.

as always.

I had a friend that won a satellite at Arlington. I thought the reason he won was because he picked a horse at huge odds at Keeneland. He knew the horse would run like a greyhound and steal it.

anyway what does 2nd get? Do you have to win it to go to Vegas?

Goodluck

I was at the S. Beloit OTB and guess what? I meet a couple for the first time armed with printouts from both Hooves and Byk. Of course the one using 'Byk's pic' Jambalaya pulled it out and is headed to ARL for the tourney. And yes they kept the streak alive and were great people. Incidently they beat Grandpa44 who is a new DT member and a good friend. 'Byk's piks' are becoming legendary.

Scav 02-27-2007 12:57 PM

I got SQUAT. I tied for the win and lost on the tiebreaker...(two others tied)

So in essence, my two second place horses, which lost but a COMBINED length total of ONE HEAD cost me this placing....BLAH..

I was very Lucky in the Showdown at Belmont Fall meet 2003. It was down to me and another guy going into the 32nd day. The rule was, if you don't hit the board your out. The other guy picked a horse in the 2nd race, and finished 4th, so I won automatically. My horse was in the 8th, and also ran 4th, but I won by the rules
26K was a gift that day

You won, because you had more wins? I never liked that part of the contest(most winners etc.)JUST A WAY TO GET PEOPLE TO BET WIN TYPES.We have all seen people with 10 wins in a row("leading"
the contest) pick horses that run right off the board.I have never understood why winners should be important in a contest that requires you to pick horses to show.

No, not because I had more wins, because he was out first, and I was the only one left standing.

Steve,
If you know South Beloit, it is far from being Urban.
