Manners

i would expect that a certain amount of friendly name calling ang jabbing would be allowed.

but at what point does absolute disrespect and name calling go over the line.

is activly seeking to ruin another reputation
still considered correct behavior here.

disrespect at the personal level should be addressed and we should have some rules.

if not we are all just back to the same spot we started.

I haven't called anyone names, but if I disagree on a topic, I'm entitled to my own opinion and can post it. I will never disrespect someone on a personal level on this message board.

Look paul, I've said this before and i will say it again. I'm quiet sure that in your area of expertise(accounting) that you are quite knowlegable. I wouldn't question you on specifics of your job. If i had questions in that field and asked you one, I would take what you said at face value.
Now horses are different. WHo anyone thinks was best in a race, who anyone thinks will win a race, who anyone thinks was a better horse are all matters of debate that can't be proven. But certain things are factual and when you call those of us here who know about the game wrong on these factual issues then you make yoursel look like a raving idiot. So you make better figures than Brown and ragozin? Gee, thats great Paul. You shoudl quit the accounting gig and publish them. As far as raw times go, we have all patiently explained to you that raw times mean NOTHING!! Different surfaces, etc. you can't compare raw times on different days at diiferent tracks or even raw times at the same track on different days.
Until you learn to actually listen to what those who know as much about the game as you do about accounting, its hopeless.

My SISTER took that picture and it was a JOKE. I didn't disrespect anyone on here by posting that since I was kidding around with the person I posted it to. You on the other hand have done nothing but DEGRADE women for the two and a half years that I have been posting on ESPN's board with your disgusting comments. That is what I would call disrespectful. The funny thing is... I have no problem with you whatsoever. I don't always agree with your posts, but I don't always disagree either. If I disagree, I have NEVER made a personal comment about you while posting in reply.

you seem to think you have a degree in gambling.

he last time i looked your opinions are of no more value than anyone elses. what makes you tthink your opinions on any topic in this game are of any more value than anyone elses ?

what the hell are you raving on about times for ??
raw times have there place in handicapping,
there are websites devoted to just that.
if you feel in your handicapping methods they are worthless, than so be it, for you.

paul did you ever read any of dave feldmans(rip) colums in the sun times here when he was still alive. one of his famous lines was"difference of opinion makes a horserace" when you have people stating all different sorts of opinions obviously there are gonna be clashes and sometimes personal things said but most of the time i doubt any1 means them

What are you talking about? Kevin and I have NEVER met in person for the record. He is a close friend because he was there for me when I was going through a divorce (as a friend) and he's still there for me when I'm going through rough times. You made some nasty comments towards me and never apologized because you have some underlying issue with women (which is your own problem.) If you throw out derogatory statements to someone, expect to get them back unless you apologize.

Downthestretch55 06-20-2006 03:34 PM

Paul,
Please allow me to respond.
I like you, and your enthusiasm.
When someone puts out ideas, or tries to "beat an arguement" to death...
you or I can only expect responses.
There really are times to just let others think what ever they want.
It's no skin off my nose.
I agree that good debate doesn't go to attacking ones credibility, or character.
Like all interactions with "human beings", especially some that need a comfortable place to dump some of their stress, just my opinion, if you're going to take a stand...you need to be prepared to defend the fort.

With that said, I hope that this thread goes to "esoteric", and that you'll continue to share your thoughts about something that all of us showed up here for...horse racing.
I don't like insults either. It took me a while to develop a "thicker skin".
Arrows bounce off much easier. However, when you're dealing with those that share the same passion, just take it with a "grain of salt".
We've all walked on torn tickets. Those with "hearts" invest, those that don't never show up.
OK?
Hope you catch my drift.
And I hope that this is respectful and shows good manners. Mom taught me right!

Cajungator,
Don't feel obliged to explain anything to Sec/Paul/Blockhead. You're likely right on about his issues. He goes from calling the fastest horse ever (by many measures) average then gets his shorts all bunched up when people disagree with him. He seeks and needs the conflict. He looks to create animosity then cries as if he's been beaten like a baby seal.

DTS.. I don't think anyone except Blocky/Sec./the Mayor.. was comparing PP to GZ.. most were just trying to point out the flaws in blocky's arguments(which he didn't like, of course).. it was never about GZ v. PP.

Both were amazing horses IMO for varying reasons. I didn't like the fact that he said that GZ was doped. How does he know he was doped? Why make a statement like that unless you can back it up with something factual?

Downthestretch55 06-20-2006 04:08 PM

Just stating my humble opinion...
If you say a horse is doped, and can't provide any proof...
well, you're just asking for it.
Both were great horses, in my view.
It's good to see the passion.
Facts speak for themselves.
And, on a final note....."Actions speak louder than words!"

he said the same thing about Dutrow and St Liam. Only problem with thsi theory is that all BC horses are locked into 48 hour pre race surveillance and extensive pre race and post race testing procedures. But I guess Paul knows a top secret way around all of that stuff. Funny how only horses he doesnt like who win are the ones who are doped, imagine the cooincidenceof that? LOL!!

ateamstupid 06-20-2006 06:05 PM

Look man..

I'm trying to be as diplomatic as possible about this, but you have a really irritating way of painting yourself into a corner with disrespectful and inaccurate remarks, then labeling the reaction to those remarks as an attack on you and your "credibility"..

Dude, what you don't realize is your credibility completely flies out the window when you say things like "Ghostzapper's time wasn't stellar compared to Pleasantly Perfect's" and "Ghostzapper was doped up for every race in his career"..

What you want is to have the immunity to say whatever you want and have no one challenge it. You want to be able to be as abrasive as possible without having anyone react negatively towards you. Sorry jack, that's not how it works. You want people to be tactful towards you? Start practicing the concept of thinking before you write stuff like you wrote in the quotes I pointed out above.

You want to cry to me and Steve and the rest of the board about how everyone's ganging up on you when they're really just reacting to your ridiculousness..

If you're gonna say that zippy' was out of line for calling you the Mayor of Moronville, fine. If you think I was out of line for saying people will learn to ignore you, fine. What I should have said is people will learn to ignore you when it comes to topics involving Ghostzapper. If it hurts you that badly, I'll edit those comments out..

In the meantime, you should look in the mirror and try to come up with a reason why so many people find you offensive other than "Everyone's out to get me"..

And chill out. This is just a message board dude. I don't hate you and I don't think anyone else does either.

whorstman 06-20-2006 06:16 PM

Shall we get Byk to open a theraputic forum so we can discuss people's feelings? Might be a good idea seriously. That way if people are upset about something, they can air out thier grievences. Then we can all have a big cyber hug and walk way happy.:D :p ;)

Ateam I agree with everything that you just said. Noone hates him. I think what everyone feels is more like frustration. Its obvious that he loves the sport and has taken a great interest in it. I think thats awesome. Its also obvious that he has been trying to learn as much as he can about it, which is also great, but it takes a long time to understand a lot of things about the sport. Making silly statements is one thing, making the abrasive ones he maked without taking a step back and considering that he might be the problem, not everyone else, is another.

Gander 06-20-2006 06:26 PM

I like Sec very much. I may not agree with everything he says and the way he says it, and the way he handles himself sometimes, but I do like him and I hope that me disagreeing with him or anyone else doesnt hurt his or anyone else's feelings. Like Ateam says, its only a message board!

I was stubborn as could be about Ghostzapper. I was one of the biggest anti-zapper people on here, but I was completely wrong, driven by the desire to see him run more and the frustration that I knew he wasnt ever going to be one of those horses who ran 8 times a year like Skip Away and Cigar did. That and the fact I have never liked Frankel.
While I wont ever claim to be a Zapper fan I will say he was a better horse than one of my favorites Pleasantly Perfect, and one of the most spectacular horses I have ever seen compete.

slotdirt 06-20-2006 06:51 PM

block/sec/Mr Mayor,

Nothing hurts your reputation or credibility more on this board than your own words, logic and your attitude. It was a thread about opinions and you don't seem to grasp that yours will not be the same as mine or other peoples.
You were making claims about horses being doped and that people on here that liked GZ do so just because of his blinkers??!! Is that really the level that you think the people on here are at with respect to rating horses?
When you dig yourself in and battle to defend your opinion you've got to be prepared to take some hits, especially since your arguements are not exactly flawless. Just my opinion and I'm one of the people that likes your enthusiasim and contributions.

Thats true Hoist. So now you can aplogize for scoffing at me for telling you Anew was a better horse than Tiger was when you insisted quite incorrectly for hours that he was the best sprinter in America. Its ok, you don't have to apologize. I'm sure you get it now.:)

Gander 06-21-2006 09:38 AM

Kev-

Society has changed and independence & greed has really taken over. Women want to have careers and arent as dependent on men anymore.

One huge difference with marriage in my opinion is people arent as willing to work at marriage anymore. One argument or difference and its over. Its so easy and so cheap to get a divorce now a days, its unreal.

I know my parents werent the happiest couple in the world but they stuck it out because of their kids and because they grew up in an era where divorce was taboo.

I have split thoughts on this. I dont think 2 people should stick out a marriage if they are unhappy solely because they dont want their kids to have to go through their parents divorcing. But another side of me thinks people get married for all the wrong reasons and are way to quick to give up on trying to work things out.
