eye opening conversation

just got off the phone with a friend of mine..hes the mgr of a sports book at a major hotel in vegas.we were conversing about trends and whats hot for him at the book..he says horseracing is getting a stronger play at his place in the last year or so..nascar and ufc have taken a downturn as there is no star power as of the older days.of course football and college hoops are allways strong hes seen considerable jump in horseraces at his book i asked him why he thinks that is..he says the prime people are scavs types mid to late 20s up to 50 s types that have some education..and that a large portion of them are come backs done the poker thing and find the horses a better game..

i thought it was interesting..and hope its true...

That is interesting. Hope it's true as well.

Not surprising that a lot of people eventually realized they were in over their heads playing poker.

I never get the draw to poker.

Its fun, but it gets very old, very quickly.

Mortimer 10-07-2008 07:46 PM

What about Bingo and HangMan?

blackthroatedwind 10-07-2008 07:46 PM

You have to be very clever to be successful playing poker.

Mortimer 10-07-2008 07:55 PM

The key to success in draw poker is knowing exactly what you need to draw and how to do it.

The great thing about quantum physics is you can
be bad at it and not know it. But in a parallel universe,
you can be a leading authority...

And not realize it.

not if you aim low enough.

stop trying to beat the best and concentrate on beating the worst.

in horse racing i have to beat the average consensus plus a rake. in poker i can choose my opponents. huge advantage.

it's like betting in a wagering pool where good players are excluded.

it isn't clever. but it requires an egoless evaluation of your own skills and a willingness to walk away from better players.

You're right.

GPK 10-07-2008 09:13 PM

patience can't be overvalued.

if you've got a plane to catch, try slots. same likelihood of success.

better players rely on the same law of large numbers that casino's do. in the short run it's all about luck. but play long enough against a weaker player and the result is inevitable.
