He won't go to the West Coast. Too far from his family. Huge family guy. Family is in FL. Don't believe it will happen, but I guess you never know.

Think Braun will be exonerated or serve 25 or 50 games?

You would think that the team would need an owner 1st.

I don't know that I believe that. The market for his services is very narrow and if it wasnt about the money he wouldnt be repped by Boras and he wouldnt have left Milwaukee.

I still think that Texas is where Boras wants him though Washington is probably willing to pay the most. Just don't know who else has the money and need?

I think Boras sold him and he thought he could get a longer term high dollar deal with a competitive team. Problem is no one wants to commit the $ to him long term, because of his genetics and what may happen to his body in 5-8 yrs. Also his defense is sub par at best and will most likely only get worse. There is no doubt Boras and most likely Fielder want to be in Texas. I know some people in the organization and fielder is a very dedicated family man and a fierce competitor. He won't go to a crappy team just for the $. Fielder on an off day would do whatever he could to be with his family. He would fly out and back just to spend the day with the wife and kids. Who is left on the west coast anyway that would be interested in Fielder?

I think a shorter term deal (3-4 years) would be great for him. At his age and if he stays healthy he could go through the free agent process again.

I disagree strongly. He isn't exactly a picture of good health. Show me the money now, this way I don't have to worry about mixing a few salads in to my diet. God only knows how big he might be 4 years from now.

I can't argue with that. He body type certainly isn't what you look for in athlete. But so far he's held together very well. He's averaged just under 160 games a year for the last six seasons. If he does sign a long-term deal he should have an opt-out clause in it after 3 or 4 years.

Genetics my friend. Look at his Papa. Fielder is a vegetarian and his body is the way it is at such a young age. No team will give him the Opt-out clause solely. A team might give him a long term contract with opt out clause on for either owner and player, but not just the player.

Scott Boras must really have naked pictures of every GM in the league.

I wish that dude was my agent. He got everything Fielder wanted

Long term- 9years (check)
:$::$::$: $23.77 mil per year (check) 4th biggest contract in MLB history
No west coast (check)
Spring training in FL where his family lives (check)
Competitive team (check)
AL team for possibility of DH in future(check)
Only negative is having to reside in Detroit for a portion of the year (however housing is pretty cheap especially on the High end)

Good deal for Fielder and Boras. Don't think it is a good deal for the Tigers long term

Where the Nats the only other team interested? It seemed like it was a buyers market, but in the end it looks like he still got what he wanted.

The Tigers seem to have panicked after the Martinez injury and bid against themselves unless this mystery team (Orioles?) made a big offer. The best offer from the Nats was 7 @ 170. They refused to go beyond 7.

Boras is amazing.

There were supposidely 4 left.

1) Nats
2) Rangers
3) Maybe Baltimore? not sure exactly
4) Tigers- we know now

Boras always seems to find a way to get what his clients want

Scary. There are few people as good at thier job as Scott Boras is at his. To get that contract without NY or Boston being involved is unreal.

Prince hasnt been arrested for theft yet?

I cant believe this dude got a contract that pretty much looks like Alberts.

Prince is just an accessory, Boras is the one that should be charged with grand larceny.........

horseofcourse 01-24-2012 06:45 PM

this opens up the division for the Tribe. Pressure on the Tigers will now be too enormous. :) ( it's fun to live in my fantasy world....try it.)
