I didn't realize that... about the warning.

But he ran a great race in Singapore after that.

Poor horse can't get a break.

That's a shame. :( Poor guy. I was excited about seeing him back for the Railway again on Jan 1.

_ed_ 11-10-2010 02:49 AM

The big boy is back!

What a win. He's terrific.

And in the sprint race, this little speed machine made it 12 wins from 19, and he's won this race two years in a row now.

1:08.05 - flying!

my miss storm cat 11-10-2010 12:01 PM

Oh my God I was watching and Fritzy Boy running for fun... running, running, la la la la la so easy :D I thought he was going to win but right at the wire I thought wait a minute, Altered Image is the one who had that fall, huh? Am I remembering this right?

Well good for him!

I couldn't tell where Fritzy ended (5th? 6th?) but a nice run from him and please let me know if the winner is the guy I'm remembereing.

That other race? Flying indeed!

_ed_ 11-10-2010 08:17 PM

You're right, he had a bad fall in August 2009. He had more than a year away from racing. It's so great to see him back at the same level he was when he won a G1 by 4 lengths as a 3yo.

Fritzy was 4th and only two noses away from 2nd! He was brave under a big weight.

my miss storm cat 11-10-2010 11:39 PM

NIce to see both of them do well.

Any word on our Sir lately?

Not good...

_ed_ 11-11-2010 06:52 AM

That's a shame, but he'll be valuable at stud.

Sir Slick was a close 5th or 6th in a G3 last week. He still tries his heart out and runs good races, but he's not the dominant, unstoppable champion he was in 2007-8. :( Having 129 starts would do that to you! He's only won 2 of his last 48. :(

_ed_ 11-12-2010 12:36 AM

Sunsett (3 f Hussonet - Sunline) was placed today. A win shouldn't be far away for her. :)

_ed_ 11-12-2010 05:58 AM

Great field for the NZ 1000 Guineas (G1) tomorrow.

1 21144 Rememba Howe 3 84 56.0 Noel Harris Evan & J J Rayner, Wanganui
2 11X13 Twilight Savings 4 84 56.0 Leith Innes Murray & Bjorn Baker, Cambridge

16 31428 Red Horizon 7 69 56.0 Craig Grylls Richard & Chris Otto, Te Awamutu

I hope Banchee finds her best form here. She'll be so hard to beat if she does. Twilight Savings is one of the best fillies in the race as well, as long as she's recovered from her tough run last weekend. But WCSIN is the favourite, and deserves to be.

my miss storm cat 11-12-2010 03:05 PM

Why does she deserve to be the favorite? Can you refresh my momery?

Rememba Howe looked alright that last time but yes of course am rooting for the 2 girls you mentioned. :)

_ed_ 11-13-2010 05:34 AM

WCSIN beat the boys very nicely in a stakes race in October, and that was the same race Katie won last year before winning both Guineas races.

WCSIN was a bit unlucky today - the interference she suffered led to the second-placed Magic Briar being disqualifed - but I don't think she was going well enough to challenge the amazing winner.

Replay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ld8bv7JQXjs

The result after the DQ of Magic Briar:

King's Rose
Twilight Savings
Smoulder
We Can Say It Now
Magic Briar

Ears pricked!

King's Rose is by Redoute's Choice out of a Nureyev mare, and she was fabulous today. No luck in her trip, wide all the way, but still way too good. I never really noticed her until today, but she blew me away with this performance.

my miss storm cat 11-18-2010 08:08 PM

That was a rough race!

Hey what did you think of this one?

_ed_ 11-18-2010 08:16 PM

I missed her race yesterday - I was stuck in the university library all day. Same again today, but I'll have a look at a replay when I get home and get back to you.

Tomorrow, Katie Lee has her first race since the Melbourne disaster - back here in Auckland. It's a nice G2 field:

1 915X1 Dancing Jess 9 101 57.0 Chris Johnson Dick & Chris Bothwell, Stratford
2 0X319 Katie Lee (AUS) 16 100 57.0 Opie Bosson Graeme & Debbie Rogerson, Tuhikaramea
3 1X181 She Rules 11 100 57.0 Andrew Calder Brett McDonald, Cambridge
4 78X72 Casabella Lane 2 99 57.0 Michael Coleman Jim Pender, Tauranga
5 61150 Pennacchio 13 99 57.0 Chad Ormsby Andrew Scott, Matamata
6 2X426 Sharp Princess 7 98 57.0 Lisa Allpress Fraser Auret, Marton
7 96531 Eileen Dubh 17 94 57.0 Jonathan Riddell Francis Finnegan, Woodville
8 217X0 Dasoudi 10 86 57.0 Danielle Johnson (a) Jon Miller, Pukekohe Park
9 6X678 Obsession 3 85 57.0 Matthew Cameron Frank Ritchie, Cambridge
10 760X1 Adaline (AUS) 5 84 57.0 Leith Innes Stephen McKee, Ardmore
11 86X95 Scarlet Vanhara 6 82 57.0 David Walsh Ross Elliot, Cambridge
12 48X21 Fazzle 4 80 57.0 Mark Hills Moira Murdoch & Dominic Olson, Waiuku
13 97X32 Santangelo 12 80 57.0 Jason Collett (a) Steven Ramsay & Julia Ritchie, Maungatautari
14 35X1L Our Ella Belle 14 79 57.0 Vinnie Colgan Steven Ramsay & Julia Ritchie, Maungatautari
15 919X3 Mercury Mistress 15 77 57.0 Alvin Ng (a) Lance Noble, Matamata
16 21342 Cool Storm 8 74 51.0 Mark Du Plessis Stephen McKee, Ardmore
17 5152 Yankee Wharf (AUS) 1 69 57.0 Ben Foote, Byerley Park

This is what her co-trainer says about her terrible last race:

Quote:

"You can probably forget she went around in Melbourne," said co-trainer Debbie Rogerson. "They had rain in the morning, she got pole-axed at the start then galloped on. Nothing went to plan, so we brought her home."
It's good to hear valid reasons - I knew she wasn't the 9th best in that race.

There's also this really hot 2yo stakes field. I don't expect you to be familiar with these names, but I suggest you take note of whoever wins it - Lion Tamer won this race last year.

1 211 Antonio Lombardo 2 75 56.0 Andrew Calder Peter McKay, Matamata
2 11 Brackenwood 3 74 56.0 Darryl Bradley Lisa Latta, Awapuni
3 2 Witz End (AUS) 10 58 56.0 Mark Du Plessis Stephen McKee, Ardmore
4 Caipirinha 4 50 56.0 Lisa Allpress Robert Priscott & Clayton Chipperfield, Te Awamutu
5 Into The Storm (AUS) 12 50 56.0 Vinnie Colgan Bruce Wallace, Takanini
6 1 Holy Moly 13 69 54.5 Matthew Cameron Roger James, Cambridge
7 1 Precise 8 69 54.5 Lynsey Satherley Linda Laing, Cambridge
8 17 Miss Upstart (AUS) 7 66 54.5 Michael Coleman Graham Richardson, Matamata
9 2 Lady Chapel 1 59 54.5 Opie Bosson Keith & Brendon Hawtin, Te Awamutu
10 436 Perfect Katch 6 54 54.5 Craig Grylls Donna, Dean Logan & Chris Gibbs, Ruakaka
11 47 Czechout Girl (AUS) 9 53 54.5 Chad Ormsby Ben Foote, Byerley Park
12 8 Shezakoolone 5 50 54.5 Jason Collett (a) Craig Ritchie, Pukekohe Park
13 Simply Magic 11 50 54.5 Leith Innes Murray & Bjorn Baker, Cambridge

my miss storm cat 11-19-2010 06:26 PM

Good luck to Katie. :tro:

You were right... I don't know a single name in the other field but let us know what happened!
