I might be using Presious Passion, and this is coming from someone that absolutely HATES the horse, but the fact that it will be firm as can be, this horse is gonna have a HUGE lead going the finish line turn, he might just run away, I don't know.

I absolutely loved this race last year. Scavs turning to me as they turned from home asking where Conduit is? Whoosh, there he is..

I think this screams stupidity from Godolphin. He's a lightly raced horse who hasn't been more than a mile and now they are going to push him against some very good horses (particularly the Euros) on a surface he's never run on? I'm as mad at Godolphin as I am at Joe Girardi and that's pretty mad. They'll retire him anyway at the end of the year, so I guess it doesn't really matter. This is a good way to ruin a good horse.

I highly doubt that.

Or a good way to win a very winnable race. The horse is in very good form right now and there are never any guarantees for the future so you take the chance with your best horse when the opportunity arises.

I can't believe that no one is talking about Zenyatta going in the Classic....Byk has the BC Classic as the #1 choice when he updated this morning....

Thing is Tom, with what looked like a certain overflow field for the Classic, they may simply have given preference to it to assure that IF they go there they would get in. The Distaff was not going to fill, so there was no need to show it any preference.

That makes alot of sense. Good reasoning.

I personally think Moss will go in the Classic. Too much to lose while running in the Distaff and too much to gain while running in the Classic, even though that Classic is gonna be mighty rough.....

CSC 10-28-2009 09:12 AM

I thought Careless Jewell's work was impressive from a time perspective, knowing Carroll's MO that she doesn't Baffert-ize her horses in the morning, this one on the surface looks like a good move. It has crossed my mind that she may be better on dirt despite winning on poly earlier in the yr so it remains to be seen if she will continue her win streak on pro-ride.

That logic seems so clear IMO that might be what they've been thinking all along.

Gander 10-28-2009 12:20 PM

When do they have to committ one way or the other on races?

Is there a chance the connections of Zenyatta are looking at how much speed is being entered in the Classic before they make their decision? Maybe they are waiting to the last possible moment to see who's in and who may opt out?

There doesnt seem to me a lot of pace in this year's Classic and I would think Zenyatta would need all the help she can get against these horses. This is a really talented bunch, albeit its being run on her surface in her backyard.

If she goes, she'll probably be 2nd choice to Gio Ponti?

No. She will not be a longer price than Gio Ponti. She'll be the favorite IMO and QR, Summer Bird, and Rip will all be bet before GP.

Really? I think Gio Ponti is going to take a lot of money. Hes already got a win over this surface. QR and Summer Bird are unproven.

You're assuming the public is even remotely in tune with that distinction.

tiznowthegreat 10-28-2009 12:40 PM

When do they post the list of who gets in first for the oversubscribed races? And why do they list preference if they can still get accepted in both fields even if they are oversubscribed? What is the point of listing a preference?
