1RBI(on a sac fly,) no extra-base hits...8 men LOB(5 in one game)....So, he walked n' singled a lot, but somehow didn't get those singles with men in scoring position. In other words, he wasn't a difference maker in the post. For 20 mil, he needs to drive in runs in the post.

If there is no one on how can you drive them in? How is it the fault or responsibility of his that the players in front of him didnt get on base? Since when is a guy hitting pretty near .500 not enough? Why is this not self explanatory?

No extra-base hits. No hits with men in scoring position. O.K., there were 8 men on base that would most likely have all come in with a double, or a home run. If you want to see walks n' singles in the post(when men aren't in scoring position,) then wait until stick figure Pierre is at bat.

You cant criticize a guy for getting hits. Period. Especially over 20 plate appearances.

maybe so chuck , but as far as i am concerned , until he proves it to me in the playoffs in the big spot , winning a game , being a difference maker , he still has ???

reggie jackson was not a ??? , he was proven in oak , and was signed as a free agent at at high number - he performed in Oct

dave winfield - complete opposite - he had never been there , and became the 1st $10mm dollar man in basball , he wnet 1-22 in his only Yankeee WS appearance

gales the one sport where a single player has the LEAST amount of control over his teams destiny is baseball. A batter is one in a nine player lineup. A starter only pitches every 4th or 5th day. A closer is only useful when his team hands him a lead. Reggie certainly contributed to those teams but they had a lot of other great players surrounding him. After Reggie left the Yankees how did he fare in World series titles?

he didn't get it done , he was on those angel teams that lost in '83 and '86 in the ALCS - during the back 9 of his career!

but you would agree when he signed the big $$$$ in the prime of his career in NY he was a difference maker - when the big light was on , he shined the most did the most , tom lasorda still gets sick to his stomach when they talk about game 6 of the 77 world series

When he went to NY he was already a proven winner in oak on those powerful teams .

Tex has a brief . brief postseason history - we don't know what he is going to do in the spotlight , under the gun , in these big spots - to pay him lottery $$$ and to not know how he is going to perform when the gun goes off in oct is a dicey proposition (if they even make it to oct)

One ex-yankee who put up big numbers during the regualr season in SD and NY - got his chance 1x as the $10mm man - well we all know that he went down in yankee lore as Mr May - he didn't get it done when he signed for the big $$$$ - then he went to Toronto later in his career , with the pressure off , not the key guy and did it , got the key hit/s when they needed it , it's a funny game chuck

Tex was a great signing. A player that is reaching his prime, that hits from both sides of the plate, has power, is very good in the field and doesnt cause trouble off the field. As good as Carlos beltran is he was overpaid based on a good postseason. The postseason is such a small sample that it is hard to truly know who is "clutch" versus the natural rhythm of baseball.

Tex was a rare yankee signing, a top player reaching his prime, not past it.

Beltran was a hell of a player before that postseason. I think he is pretty good value at $17 million especially when you consider his defensive and baserunning abilities which are as good as they get in the league. 283 stolen bases to 38 caught stealing in his career is incredible.

he got more than he would have due to that unbelievable post season run. Remember he was hitting lasers all over the place and catching every ball hit. He is a very good player but you have to say that you expected a little more from him. gales would call him a failure because of the mets inability to win the WS.

In his free agent season he had 38 HRs and 42 SBs. When he had the great postseason I thought he'd go for $20 million plus per season but I think he actually went for fair value at $17 million for what he did in the prior four seasons. Getting 100+ runs and 100+ RBIs for four straight years is impressive with anybody but it is especially impressive with the Kansas City Royals.

What do they have in the minors for potential help this year after the all star break. It is so weird not to hear about some Jabba clone who will be up with the big club by the fourth of July. George spent cash in the old days on the free agent types but their farm system seemed to be very solid in past years......are they holding their usual young and mighty at AA and AAA still?

Are you kidding me, they always boast about their farm system being good. But frankly it sucks! Cano is the only guy that I could really think of in the last few years that has come up to be a everyday starter. Since they sign every big time free agent, they usually end up trading whatever chips they have down in the minors. They had a bunch of homegrown core players when they went on the championship run in the late 90's, but since then, their system is an absolute joke.

Cano sucks. The best from their farm system is Hughes who has a sub 1.00 WHIP in the last month and has managed to strike out 31 in the last month despite being in the bullpen for Joba and Wang. I am salivating at the day the Yankees are dumb enough to trade Hughes.

I have to admit that I'm not 100% sold on the kid yet, but compared to some of the other names that they have had and brought up in the past years he's like Willie Mays.

I think it is one of those situations where he's been around for a while now so people forget that the kid is still only 22.

@ home also..... Btw.. Did Dunn's HR land YET ?????

Gales, whats going on with your team?
Thats 2 series they are heavily favored to win, especially against the Nats.
They gave the Sox 2 games this week. What a gift.
All 4 games were close losses too, which has to be even more frustrating.
