Happy to see Flower Bomb was 2nd... can't wait for replay! |
Frustrating! Time for ONE replay right now and on the NZ racing site if you click on R8 @ Awapuni vid you get the Gallagher Marton Cup, which was actually the 6th (and yes I did try reversing it and playing r6 which is also r6). Really wanted to see Iamishwara's 2nd in the Waikato Stud. Will try again later but ugh!!!!! :wf
|
Annoying! But I think I know what happened there - they had some issues with the track early in the afternoon and delayed the races significantly. I think race six ended up being at the time race eight was meant to be!
|
Thanks for explaining as you are probably right! Still not fixed but someday... :)
In the meantime it's awesome to see the noms for the Telegraph and the Levin Classic (!). |
Yeah, really looking forward to both races. :) It will be interesting to see Soubrettes face her first G1 test in the Telegraph.
|
Ed how is Bounding? I haven't seen a thing since she had to be scratched from the Railway... any update?
Can't wait to see the final fields and I do hope Tomorrowland draws well (although there are, of course, about ten I'd be happy if they won. :o :D). By the way... Bella Court looked really good! Took me a while to catch up but had to mention that as I know we'll be hearing that name a LOT. :) |
Bounding is out for a little while, probably about March:
http://www.theinformant.co.nz/racing...elegraph-plate Bella Court was amazing! She didn't know what she was meant to be doing but was still way too good for them that day. I hope she goes well in the Million. |
Thanks for that... not sure how I missed it!
Liked your Wolfwhistle piece! Well I am thrilled I just got to watch Iamishwaras race (I should call it Mighty Solomon's race I suppose and yes.. a very nice win for him, wasn't it?). :) Just saw the fields for Saturday... can't wait! |
The Telegraph is such an exciting race. It's one of the most even fields I've seen for that race.
I think the Levin Classic is possibly a little bit disappointing. It's a G1, but it's looking like the Karaka Mile will have a better field next week even though it's Listed and has half the prize money! Volkstok'n'barrell, Rockfast, Stratocaster, Tavy... |
Updated Derby top 10:
1. Volkstok'n'barrell 2. McQueen - I really loved that Ellerslie win last Saturday, so he moves up. :) 3. Rockfast 4. Tavy 5. Kolonel Kev 6. Margin Trader 7. Stratocaster 8. Sound Proposition 9. Midnitemagicman 10. Mongolian Khan |

I still have to catch up on Abbey Road... on a lot of them! Thanks for the updated list and the probable for the Karaka Mile which looks sensational! Re the Telegraph... hard to root against Fix and Ruud Awakening and I would be thrilled to see Durham Town win (or In Style, Natuzzi or Ginner Hart) but I think I might have to actually play Tomorrowland and break my no-betting-New-Zealand (cause why spoil my favorite racing) mentality thing. Who is the favorite in that race? Good luck to Wattle Bay, Carlotta, Survived and Lucky Feather at Te Rapa and to Dillinger (I went back and watched his four wins for absolutely no reason) at Gore (not that I know where that is but I like him... hard trying guy). :) Go get that 5th win! (edit - Oh and yeah... McQueen!). |
Telegraph odds:
Soubrettes 4.80 Natuzzi 6 Tomorrowland 6 Trepidation 9 In Style 10  Whosyourmaster 14 Sacred Star 14 Durham Town 18 Silver Eclipse 18 Ruud Awakening 18 Ginner Hart 21 Fix 26 Adventador 31 Spitfire Lady 31 Shezhardtocatch 51 Designated Driver 81 Onlyarose 100 |

(... and yes, I'd have thought In Style would be at shorter odds after the Railway!). |
Sorry to see both Touche and Gig scratched.
I think I will play a couple tonight (but must make myself stay away form the 8th cause what do I do with Iamishwara and Antonio in the same race?). R6, Endeavour R7, the Levin Classic, Sardaaj to win (unless she is at no odds...not sure who the favorite is here!) and will box her with Prince Mambo and Huka Eagle ... and of course Tomorrowland to win the Telegraph. I was thnking of using In Style in the 2nd spot but oh... sentiment gets the best of me and better for me to do a win bet and walk away than to use all underneath). Good luck, ed. |
Sardaaj is a very hot favourite for the Levin Classic - currently 2.20.
I think she wins, but I am keeping an eye on Gaultier (current odds 26). His trainer has always liked him as a Derby horse, and she said he's been gelded since his last race and she thinks he'll be more comfortable in his races and will run better. I'm interested to see how he goes. |
Good luck!
I changed my mind again and decided to just do a single win bet - leaving it at that. :) Jan. 16, 2015 03:40 PM 3C4EFF2D7010 Online Gaming NZ Trentham 9 $20.00 WN 7 $20.00 Jan. 16, 2015 04:43 PM A85989457010 Online Gaming NZ Trentham 9 $1.00 QN 7 / 3,4,12,14 $4.00 |
Nice, good luck!
Ooh, Boodles was impressive in the 2yo. |

Back later on ed... enjoy the day! |
Nice to see Moozoon back in winning form! I've always liked her.
|
Gaultier!
|
Jeez! Sacred Star! I wasn't expecting that but he was absolutely sensational today.
|

Finally just saw results and ah well but oh that one made me happy (... and Moozoon too)! edit - Just read your very good piece in the Informant and whoa I had no idea In Style was Danica Guy's first G1 winner. |

I love Tomorrowland and I know there are huge things in store for him this year but wow...what an incredible win that was! Happily surprised by Designated Driver... had completely written her off. Very nice 2nd. |
Fun reading about the jocks coming in for the Karaka Million... it'll be awesome to see Tommy with Bella Court although, if it were me, I would keep MdP on her and give Tommy Platinum Express but what do I know?! :D
Hope The Justice League makes it in. Need to go back and watch Maritimo as I was surprised to read, in your piece, that he's the favorite. I would have thought Bella Court and Strata Lady in that order. Exciting times! edit - Just read about the three late entries for the Thorndon Mile... yay! Soriano! |
I was wondering about the Berry/MdP mounts too. I'm not sure if Mark got to choose? Interesting decision if he did!
I have Saturday off this week, but I'll still be watching all the Trentham races closely. :) I'm on duty for the Karaka Million day on Sunday. Exciting field for that, and I can't wait to see VSB again in the Mile. |

Very nice field for the Stayers Cup. I'm a sucker for races like these. :D I'm rooting for Stratocaster in the MIle BUT not sure if he can beat VSB, Tavy et al. Whoa the Karaka Million! Good Lord that is a GREAT field! On a smaller note, I was watching some of Graphic's replays and I really do think he'll win the Wellington Cup again. (That was such a great one last year, wasn't it? Skysoblue hanging on after leading the whole way and a NICE run from good old Yin Yang Master with MdP up no less... names like Guns at Five and Annie Higgins... what a nice field that was.) Anyway yeah I do think he'll pull one out of nowhere and remember how to win. IF he doesn't am rooting for Ransomed although it would be nice for Templeten or Our Bee Jay since neither wins much and both were in it last year. :) * * * edit - A really fun replay is Templetens first win (Nov. 13, 11) where he absolutely flies past Zonza! I think the race caller was really surprised. :D |
Odds:
Thorndon: Mighty Solomon 4.80 Pondarosa Miss 6.50 Diademe 9 Puccini 9 Abidewithme 12 Soriano 12 Nashville 12 Ringo 14 Pure Champion 16 Silverdale 18 Kisses 21 Slice Of class 26 Genius 26 Emerald Queen 41 Julinsky Prince 41 Miss Three Stars 41 Benzini 41 Miss Pelear 81 Wellington Cup: Graphic 5.50 Maygrove 6 King Kamada 8 Perfect Start 9 Decorah 12 Just The Tip 12 Dubai Shuffle 14 Cursive 14 Anniesstar 18 Awesome Goal 21 Ransomed 26 Red Ripper 26 Langdon 26 Esprit D'Or 26 Tempelten 31 Alpine Heights 31 Our Bee Jay 41 She's Insatiable 51 Karaka Million: Maritimo 4.50 Strata Lady 5 The Justice League 5 Hardline 6 Windborne 9 Bella Court 9 Showboy 10 Selfie 14 Dal Cielo 16 Gotham 16 Platinum Express 21 O'Dianne 26 Savason 31 Scooter O'Reilly 41 China Silk 61 Ilikai 61 Perfect Harmonee 81 |

Karaka Stayers Cup:

Oh yes please! :$: I am shocked Graphic is the favorite for the Wellington Cup! I mean a lot of these odds are completely crazy but that truly surprises me. Love Soriano so very much but I do not expect her to win so will have to look around a little... maybe Abidewithme (?). I do think Rock Diva wins the Stayers Cup but oh how I would love to see that field in person. :) Thanks for the odds! |
So I'm putting together a couple of plays and walking the fine line between sentiment and who I think will win... Ringo is the favorite? Very strange.
Genius is the one I have no idea what to do with. Will include Kisses... use Abidewithme and Pondarosa Miss in the top spot but oh Soriano what to do with you? |
Puccini! His brother Sir Slick won the Thorndon twice, and now it's his turn. Amazing.

Could not be happier that I was wrong. ... and good for Maygrove too! Have not yet watched that one... ... and El Chico!!! :tro: |
VSB was stunning again. What a finish by Hardline!
|
Quote:
Hardline! ... and Selfie! Whoa he's a nice one, isn't he? Right as they're hitting the wirse is that TJL who comes over right into... China SIlk or Windbourne? Looked pretty dangerous. Oh well, beautiful races. liked the cool overhead shots (!)... Candle In the Wind! Nice to see her win the Stayers Cup. :) |
The busy week continues - at the Karaka Premier sale all day today and tomorrow!
|
The first Jimmy Choux colt sold pretty well!

Also wanted to ask you regarding the top ten list... if there were, say, a top 20 would Giant Turtle and / or Dartmoor be on it and also have meant to ask you for some time now... where is Turn Me Loose? Thanks in advance. :) |
Turn Me Loose is heading to Australia and will probably resume in the Hobartville Stakes, which I think is in mid/late Feb.
I'm getting the feeling the Platinum Witness will go to the Oaks. Her Derby odds are 18-1 and she's only 6-1 for the Oaks - I think there's probably something in that. Giant Turtle has disappointed me a little bit in his last couple of races, but he could still put himself into contention with a good run next time. He might be in the noms for the G2 Waikato Guineas when they come out later today. Similar story with Dartmoor - he was last in VSB's race. But he was quite good before that and can bounce back. |
