IMO....the biggest blunder that Imus made (besides the dumb ass comment that he made) was appearing on Sharpton's radio show. If Imus had any sense at all, he contacts the President of Rutgers, along with Coach Stringer and expresses his desire to meet with them and the girls (and their parents if they so choose) and THEN AND THERE express his apologies if he so desires. He owes Sharpton nothing...zero...zlich...nada. I would have never given Sharpton the time of day....never given him the opportunity to suck every ounce of publicity out of this as possible.

The only people that Imus owes an apology to is those girls on the team and their parents...plain and simple.

Mortimer 04-11-2007 06:51 AM

They all have ONE set of parents!!!?

Mortimer 04-11-2007 06:52 AM

An how did you know their first names?

I don't believe this rot.

Ahhh... I have been looking for the appropriate thread to post a couple of good "dumb blonde" jokes...

Why would blonde be a prerequisite?

I've never understood that.

Did ya hear about the brunette lady?

She thought the blonde lady was smart.

This crap is too much and people need to stop worrying about useless crap like this. WHo cares what Don Imus said? I know this is like Playboy for DTS but really, it's ridiculous. Personally, I'm offended that this is even an issue right now. But it won't stop, people are so bored that this will continue to spin out of control. I think we all need to get a life.

She wanted to be called "righty".

There once was a nappy headed blonde from Nantucket

Whose bod was so hot that you'd all want to ....

She'd giggle and flirt

EXCELLENT observaton ScudB.

That coach blew me away and I started to actually tear up a bit. She is mesmerizing, convincing, commanding, motivating...Oh, I could go on and on.

And when she gets done motivating some of these overpaid show ponies on the Dodgers, how about moving on up to the real big leagues? She'd make a heckuva manager for FEMA and any other government program connected to restoring the lives of the Katrina victims. This administration could use talent like that....but this notion might be too much of a stretch for them.

Dahoss,
It really doesn't matter to me if you like me nor wish to be my friend. I don't even care if you agree with my opinions.
Having said that, may I please remind you that this is Mr Byk's site. He has clearly stated a "code of conduct" that we all agreed to abide by when we registered here. I suggest you reread it.
Should that "code of conduct" be selectively applied by the moderators, the standards will have equally as much credibility as your disparaging remarks.
I enjoy meaningful discussions with some of the posters here. I have abided by the "code of conduct", and I thank Steve and others for making this opportunity possible.

Baba.,
Your word, "chicken sh!t".
What else to expect from someone that is unable to address the topic?
Perhaps you also should read the "code of conduct", or at the least provide proof to substatiate your venom and vitriol.

SCUDSBROTHER 04-11-2007 12:06 PM

Well, the slavemaster types are pretty much in unison here:

"It was a bad joke...now can we just shut up about this?"

This is the exact opposite to the punishment they call for when other members of society do stuff they don't like.Granted this is not a crime, but you are not encouraging any changes be made(2 weeks off.......is a vacation...it is not a change in format.)See,this is a case of somebody repeatedly doing something wrong at their job.I understand he is doing comedy.I understand that this is a situation that needs to be looked at in context to the situation(2 guys getting paid to try to be funny.) Many people are wrong for not taking that part into account, but many others are wrong for thinking race should continue to be fair game for the comedy done on this show. You are wrong for wanting to sweep this thing under the rug(and by not supporting any real changes here.. you are doing that.)IMUS, himself, says he wants to change the show. Not these guys...No,all they want is people to shut up about the topic(because it has close to zero importance to them.)They really could care less if this same mistake is made again. That is sad.You would think you would want the real gas in this fire(Bernard) to be let go.How this show can change with that guy doing so much of the writing is beyond me.I would say atleast 25% of this guy's comedy writing is of this same sort(racial overtone involved.)Don't see how this guy can stay. Can't see why this isn't the minimum change that should happen. If this "actual change" of some sort was made, then the calls to move on would make more sense.I don't understand the support for just doing nothing(but a vacation.) If it is wrong, then do something to try to keep it from re-occuring.What workplace does nothing when large mistakes are made?

It's not a joke. It's cancer.
Notice that the two malignancies that ranted against me didn't provide proof.
Cancer is silent, and it spreads unless the tumors are removed.
Cancer is not funny at all! It even seems to have found it's insidious way to this board.

I refuse to call you a name back.
As far as horse racing...go back through this very thread. I stated Unbridled Danger in the 7th at AQ on Thurs...twice.
My Derby pick? Still making up my mind. As of now, No biz, but it could change.
Insults?
No thanks.

MORE UNSULTS !!

MORE INSULTS!!!

Downthestretch55 04-11-2007 02:03 PM

DaHoss,
What happened?
Did you go back through this thread to confirm what I said?
Is you silence an admission that I'm yet again correct?
I can't wait for you to insult me again.
And, calling me the name you did should indeed get you benched, if the "code of conduct" wasn't impartially applied.
See ya.

Between calling me a Nazi for disagreeing with you, calling Kev a racist, your crap with Baba and insulting Chuck's training ability, you are really something special. Keep it up.
If the mods deem it appropriate to give me a benching for calling you an a$$hole so be it. I can deal with it and I stand by it. I notice I don't see anyone disagreeing with me. I guess I thought your cheap shots yesterday were very low, even for a nut like you. I will say it again, all of your peace stuff is a bunch of crap and your cheap shots prove it. Again, you are a very angry man and I hope you get help. You need it. Bad. And as a favor to all of your fans, do you think you could bring back the lessons learned from chicken's thread? I know I am not the only one missing that.

There is a freakshow going on in a DT thread and I am not stuck in the middle of it.

The first time is always the sweetest....

Princess Doreen 04-11-2007 02:52 PM

I'm just tuning into this topic. I read the first couple pages and couldn't read any further.

Couple things:

I don't get upset about ethnic jokes or insults when they're generalized. I've been guilty of saying such things myself despite the fact that I'm of Italian, Irish, English and German heritage.

I used to listen to Imus a lot on my drive to work each morning, but not since I've been retired. I would never classify Imus as a racist. He's just an equal opportunity insulter.

However, Imus made specific comments against a specific group of women. That takes the generalized ethic insult throwing to an intolerable level.

That being said, Imus should apologize in person to all the girls on Rutger's basketball team. He should be sincere, contrite, and apologetic. The girls, of course, have the option to accept or deny his apology.

That's where it should stop. Imus doesn't have to apologize to anyone except the persons he insulted.

This is getting monotonous, and it's a spring board for everyone with an ax to grind or a political agenda.
