gw vs aragorn.
two fantastic descendants of the legend known as northern dancer, and both irish breds. one thru storm cat, the other thru danzig. and both with raise a native on their dams side.... |

this was disappointing to say the least. thought Librettist might be a superhorse. anyone know if something went wrong with him? I could not tell anything from watching the replay. George Washington is not going to scare off any of the top milers currently running in the states. Im not even sure he would beat Cacique at 8f, much less Aragorn. Repent |

yeah Zeig, I lost a ton that Spring. this was back when I was in school and really only bet on weekends, which meant I played a lot of stakes races(totally stupid way to bet, but thats another subject). that damn horse beat me everytime. the one time he did get beat, I had Eddington and not the winner(Birdstone). what a disaster. yeah, its safe to say I totally hate that horse and hope he fails miserably at stud. I was just thinking today while watching Fairplex that I hope this is where his offspring end up. I would not cry at all if lucky jones gets shipped off to Korea or Costa Rica or wherever else. eddington is going to his old mans stall at claiborne....i liked him, he just couldn't seem to really put it all together.
i still can't believe that birdstone won the belmont. it's not that i thought smarty couldn't lose...any horse can lose. but birdstone?! and i think i do better at races other than the stakes as well. i know when we had that weekly contest at different tracks, i kicked butt at canterbury while everyone else was crying in their beer. |

GW may not scare off anyone here but I wouldn't ignore him either. My main concern for a horse like that coming over here for the mile is the different course configuration and the different way the pace could be run, i don't think it plays in his favor. with that said, i thought his effort today was remarkable. |

thanks for the thoughts. I respect GW. but Im not sold that he is Rock of Gibraltar #2 like some are making him out to be. I'll take Libbretist again if they meet. and Zeig, I actually think Birdstone was a lot better than I and a lot of other ppl originally thought. he ran a bang up race later that summer in the Travers defeating a pretty good stablemate in the The Clffs Edge. closed well into a really slow pace if I remember correctly. what sucks about Eddington was that he was just starting to figure it out when he had to be retired. looked really good on turf in FL and then won the Pim Special, which was the Grade 1 they needed. i think what killed me on birdstone was the race he was in on the sealed track...he looked godawful. his travers was decent. but he was nowhere near mr jones talent-wise...he just happened to be in the right place at the right time, and had a jock with sense enough to ride that race the right way while everyone gang-tackled smarty.

lol, that was a horrible race. was at Turfway back when they had real dirt. it was won by some horrible horse like Sinister G or something. i think I see him running in claiming races at Aqueduct now. yeah, Zito used the sealed track as an excuse, and maybe it was a legitimate one, but it was a terrible effort by Birdstone. birdstone was head and shoulders, or thought to be so, above that field...he looked horrible that day. sealed track...as good an excuse as any i guess. not as bad as when mike smith tried to say he thought giacomo entrapped in the preakness....not so mr. smith!

Did you see something today that would make you think he'll turn the tables next time? Librettist had everything he would need to win today, the right distance and postional advantage. when the real running started he was going the wrong way. Plus he was beat by more than just GW. |

it was not an impressive run. I liked everything I saw up until today. I will back him for the same reason I would back Oognagh Maccool in the Distaff. I think he is the best miler in the world and one race will not change that opinion, and plus, now I might get somewhat of a price. with GW's connections, name, and everything else, he will be overbet on Nov 4.
