If you want your daughter to marry(or not marry) someone of a specific race, then you are a racist. It's not cool to want to have your daughter marry a person of a specific race. Well, I've never celebrated anyone's death and won't start now, but silencing a voice that advocated pretty much everything I despise...I can't help but think that's an ok thing. Defending Mr Helm's is sorta like talking about the trains running on time in fascist Italy or saying Adolph was kind to Eva, I suppose Stalin had this dog that he loved...nobody is 100% evil or pure, you can always make a case for/against anyone if it means that much to you...my question has to be "why"? (and no, before the question is asked, I'm not comparing Helm's actions to the above, just using them as an analogy). As others have stated, Helms never backed away from his views, they are there for the world to see/read...you either agree with him or not...and no amount of black staffers or adopted children changes his legacy.
