Anyone find it funny that Dutrow was considering running Frost Giant in that Wednesday allowance Bribon won and then wheeling him back in the Suburban but now that the horse is a G1 winner he apparently needs to rest until the JCGC?

I said that to someone yesterday. Had he run and lost on Wed, then skipped the Suburban (or run up the track in the G1) he'd have probably run back at Belmont then run 2 or 3 times at Saratoga. Now he's a G1 winner and couldn't possibly make the Whitney or the Woodward.

.

Before the Civil War, most TB races were run in heats, best 2 out of 3, all on the same day. Younger horses (3,4) would race at a mile, but the heavyweight division ran in 4 mile heats. Out in Tennesse there was this mare called Maria that Andy Jackson's horses had lost to so many times that the future Pres was desparate to beat her. His best shot was in a race wherein the first three heats were won by three different horses (one of them Andy's) so they ran another heat and Maria won. 4 heats, 4 winners, so they ran another heat and Maria won again. She was ever afterwards known as "The Twenty-Mile Mare". TBs racing in heats generally didn't run more than 5 or 6 times in a year.

The sport and the breed have changed a bit since then.<deliberate understatement>

Shouldn't the owners be accountable also? Afterall it is their investment...Where were they when the horse was entered? I'm not a big fan of Dutrow's but I don't think he should take the entire blame for racing the horse off of 2 days rest. Either way this is part of the game that is often forgotten, the low level claimers seem to be disposable parts. A real shame it is.

He's at it again.

Akin, a badly beaten sixth as the even money favorite in today's third race (a $50,000 claimer), is entered to run in Saturday's third race, a $20,000 claimer.

No, the other horse broke down at Monmouth, so he's a first time offender in NY.
