Sorry, should have been clearer about that. His race is here - http://www.ellerslie.co.nz/show.cfm?...wf&w=294&h=240

But yeah, Red Ruler was awesome today. 4 wins from 5 now, and was unlucky in 3rd the other time. 5-2 for the Derby now.

Finally watched it.

"Carlisle Bay going backwards....."

Thanks for posting it. :(

Derby entry order, by earnings:

1. Mission Critical
2. Fritzy Boy
3. Prince Kaapstad
4. Red Ruler
5. Sircross
6. Pierre Joseph
7. Il Divo
8. Nom du Jeu
9. Avancer
10. Six O'Clock News
11. Twoeezy
12. C'est La Guerre
13. Sing Song Girl
14. Borrack
15. Steel
16. Butwaittheresmore
17. Pentour
18. Abitofado
---------------------
19. Thumbs Up
20. Strengthtostrength
21. O'Reilly Express
22. Diplomatic

It's a shame that some horses that have no chance of winning (Twoeezy, Borrack, Abitofado) have enough earnings to keep out a couple of rising stars who are just running out of time (Thumbs Up and Strengthtostrength). :(

Looks like it will be a great field though, can't wait. 5 days to go. :D

Derby Day on Saturday! And the undercard isn't too bad either:

G3 Darley Plate - https://www.ebetonline.co.nz/forms/2..._M2_R7_Ext.pdf

And then there are some of the major Auckland Cup contenders in the Nathans Memorial Handicap, and a 2yo race with Fully Fledged (who would have won a G2 last start if he didn't try to jump the rail...hope he behaves better this time).

_ed_ 02-29-2008 11:51 PM

As I mentioned in the Derby thread, C'est La Guerre is the Derby winner for 2008. Prince Kaapstad was second and Fritzy Boy third. Nom du Jeu was 4th.

The other major race of the day, the G3 Darley Plate, was won by Martini Red.

It was Auckland Cup day today, on a disappointing wet track (it was a beautiful sunny day...think they have some drainage issues) and the race had some ridiculously slow sectionals.

But still, Prize Lady won it for the 2nd year in a row, and that's not easy.

He was much better today, very professional. He enjoyed the applause as he came back after the race. :D

Here's a replay: http://www.ellerslie.co.nz/show.cfm?...wf&w=294&h=240

And the other G1 was won by Sir Slick, his fifth G1 win.

NZ TAB has online betting on all NZ harness racing, so setting up an account there is probably your best option - http://www.tab.co.nz

2008 New Zealand Oaks winner - BOUNDLESS

She's the one on the rail.

Replay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2sJ2xh9szs

1st: Boundless (42-1)
2nd: Referred (94-1)
3rd: Pentura (20-1)

Amazing performance by Boundless, she was in a huge speed duel all the way around but she didn't stop. She's not a big filly but she's obviously got a massive heart.

Sir Slick wins!

How's his ear?

_ed_ 03-31-2008 02:08 AM

It's getting better, he's had some stitches put in there. Another really good performance from him, his 19th win, 9th stakes.

He's off to Hong Kong next month, then Singapore. :)

Poor guy.

I didn't realize Nom du Jeu had won too!!!

3yo Special Mission won the G1 Breeders Stakes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDc1h2Dzha4

She's a special filly. :)

First G1 win for jockey James McDonald - he's only 16.

_ed_ 04-06-2008 05:09 AM

The best performance of the day though was a 2yo. Have a look at this:

I think the Moroneys have got another good one!
