Okay, I have to admit that I often sell Slew short in my partisanship for Exceller. It seemed afterward that nobody even remembered he was in the race much less that he actually WON it. It took some guts to go after a horse that far ahead, too; how fast do you think Exceller's final quarter was?

His final quarter was no faster than Slew's. His second to last quarter was certainly not as fast as either of Slew's first two quarters.

Ya know, sitting fifteen or twenty lengths off a blistering three horse speed duel, in a mile and a half race, is a pretty good trip.
