its okay.. if he wins the BCC he'll still suck in the eyes of this board. If he somehow beats Curlin in the Clark posters will come up with something and BB will still suck. Dont let the fact that Derby Trail hates big brown bother you too much! :D

Not many ordinary horses could do that, without getting emotions involved, I thought it was a A performance. Seeing his action on turf if I were IEAH and Dutrow I would seriously start looking at the BC Mile rather than the Classic. For me if he wins that race impressively he would have answered the question of whether he is a very good horse that rightfully deserves his accolades and if Curlin(who has looked anything but invincible of late) loses whatever race he decides to run in next. HOY would be up for grabs. There's no doubt he looks better on turf if yesterday's race is any indication.

Based on 2008 Accomplishments how can Big Brown not be the front runner for HOY?? I cant see Curlin being ahead of him (eventhough Curlin is most likely a better horse) especially considered the DWC supposedly doesnt even count towards our HOY! Big Brown is by far the most accomplished horse to race in the USA this year!

I think Big Brown needs a grade 1 win in the BC to even have a chance of winning HOY, I think his best chance would be in the BC Mile, one thing is for certain, if he ran in the Woodbine Mile he most likely would have won that race. Nothing against Monmouth but a grade 1 would have been more impressive on BB's resume.

I think Big Brown needs a win against Curlin to win horse of the year. Horse of the year still has to be Curlin's race to lose.

Alot will depend on these 2 horses next races, I agree that these 2 should meet to decide on HOY, however it isn't going to happen unless Curlin's connections decide to race on synthetic. I also wouldn't underestimate a visually impressive looking performance swaying voters. Anyway it does make for an interesting month ahead.

They do not just give away G1s at a mile on turf. Against legit G1 milers, he'd be 15-1 or 20-1 to win, at best. He'd be 50-1 if he ran in the Arc.

The only problem is that other than Euros, who are the legit G1 milers around right now?

I don't know if he'd be 15 or 20 to 1 against so called legit G1 milers -- he was 3-5 against G2 stock, or at least a couple of G2 horses. Maybe though.

I think some people are giving a lot of credit for: a) beating older horses, b) on turf -- first time in a very long time, and in a very different world, c) going fast early on and being dead game at the end, d) and more.

He deserves much of that credit. I don't think there was a G1 horse in the field. He wasn't surrounded by 2 BC winners, and so on -- but he won a very good race. However, let's keep in mind that a G1 turf race is very different from what we saw yesterday -- very different!

I hear there are rumors Big Brown will be added to next months Dancing With The Stars. If he can do well there I think he locks HOY.

Yech, enough of this Big Brown

Apparently, you didn't see the way people bet Favorite Trick or Peace Rules in the BC Mile. Check back on that and then tell me you believe he'd be 15 or 20 to one. I think that if they ran him in the Mile, he'd go favored unless maybe Henrythenavigator is there and even then, he may still be favored. Now, whether he'd deserve to be whatever odds he went off at would be a different story.

I think he was referring to his chances rather than his actual odds.

Come on now.

Red Rocks and Better Talk Now might both be one-time Breeders Cup Turf winners - but they are completely not that much horse anymore.

I believe Better Talk Now was just off the board in a race won by the mediocre Champs Elyseeys. Red Rocks went off at 98/1 odds in the Hong Kong Vase with Dettori up - and was soundly beaten in the Coronation in his final Euro start.

They aren't exactly Manilla and Theatrical.

Am I the only one who thought Sudan ran the best race of anyone in the Man O' War?

He got hounded by a David Cohen rabbit through 47.60 and 1:11.80 fractions in an 11 furlong marathon on the Belmont Inner turf and was beaten only three 3 lengths at the end. It's not like the race was run under handicap conditions either - and he was getting 13 pounds in a marathon. Red Rocks and Curlin both got in at 116lbs as neither had a graded stake win on turf this year.

blackthroatedwind 09-15-2008 10:22 AM

Don't hurt yourself patting yourself on the back for thinking Sudan ran the best race. Stevie Wonder called me after the race and said the same thing.

Frankly, after you tried to talk me off Wild Gams the other night I would think you would be a little more humble.

Do we really know that about Red Rocks? Isn't it quite possible he's just a far better horse over here?

He had the dreamiest of trips in the Man O' War.

Of course he's better over here - he's a Group 3 type in Europe and a Grade 1 or 2 type in America - but that has more to do with the difference in quality of competition than anything else I think.

I'm not so sure. I think some of the horses that were whooping on him over in Europe would have a tough time with him over here. I guess we'll see in the BC Turf if any of them are dumb enough to not take the shot in the Classic.
