did you see what happened to Diabolical at the start of that race?

I think Asiatic could upset Curlin but first time going 10f against a horse with proven class like Curlin, I'd need a good price on it..

I wonder what the odds are of Curlin ever making it back to the US from Dubai in 08.

Read it why... cause BH is slow to have the correct information at times?

His next start is the Burj Nahaar on Super Thursday (March 6th).

That's just it... It was on turf. Not dirt... Eventhough he'll be ripping up the dirt competition in Dubai until Woirld Cup day when he goes against the Americans, he'll be the "unknown". Because it's unknown if he's gone up against any dirt comeptition worth a sh*t over there. But you're right, value will be the key...

Any chance Tiago ships? He's gotten trounced by Curlin, but $$$ makes connections delusional at times lol.

I could just as easily argue though that the best run of his life was on turf..

I'm a little ignorant... what turf race was that? The pp's we get to bet on Dubai (at least at Canterbury Park in MN are pp's from maybe 5-6 of their past races, and no further back).

SniperSB23 02-05-2008 07:07 PM

Curlin is better than Asiatic Boy at this point but I think Premium Tap will handle both of them.

When this colt first raced, there was some buzz about him because he broke his maiden first time out as a three year old by four lengths under a strangle hold. The jock never asked him to run, and was actually holding him back down the stretch. In his next start, he's not moving as pretty and gets beat, but finishes second. He came back with puffy ankles, and has never been the same since. The trainer is very careful with the colt, but is constantly battling the horse's puffy ankles. Yet, the colt still wins races in quite the company because of the careful management. Sometimes, in a race, he even looks back to his old self, but the front bandages tell the story. However, a lot of races, he hasn't moved as pretty as he once did. It is amazing what a little bit of rest, ice, front bandages, and joint injections will do.... However, this cycle never continues because eventually the damage becomes too severe to continue. The horse either gets turned out and, with time, gets better, or is done racing.... The most careful and talented trainers can usually get at least a couple of good races out of the horse under these conditions or can keep the horse going for awhile if the horse has plenty of time in between starts.

his 2nd last race was versus Authorised and company over 10f in the Juddmonte. Didnt do too well, soft ground, Jamie Spencer was on board....

The time before that, on his European debut in the Sussex stakes, he ran a very decent race, a close 4th behind Ramonti. This was rated at least as good as his UAE Derby romp...

He's 6-1 to win the DWC here (Curlin is 7-4), which is plenty low enough. Id be more inclined to throw a bit on Latency at 25-1 instead..

Burj Nahaar to act as World Cup prep for Asiatic

Asiatic Boy lands the UAE Derby

by Jason Ford

ASIATIC BOY, unbeaten in five starts in Dubai, will have his prep race for the World Cup in a 1m dirt race on the ‘Super Thursday' card on March 6.

The Group 3 Burj Nahaar is one of five Group races on a six-race card designed as trials for World Cup night itself.

Asiatic Boy scored over 6f on his reappearance two weeks ago at the carnival, where his four-race spree in 2007 culminated in a runaway victory in the UAE Derby.

Explaining his decision to go for the Burj Nahaar, trainer Mike de Kock said: “The concluding round of the Maktoum Challenge over the World Cup course and distance was the alternative but the mile of the Burj Nahaar will be perfect for his preparation.
