Johnny Damon is decidedly not the reason why the Indians are in first place.

Oh, and don't forget the part where their superstar 3B was called out at a very close play at first. Just not the Tigers year, this 2012.

You do realize that on this date last year the Tribe was 7 ahead of the Tigers and 3-0 against the Tigers at home!! The non balk call was hilarious (perhaps the most recognizable balk I've ever seen!)...I'll take any break we can get!!

Verlander is just insanely good. his 116th pitch clocked at 102 mph. Indians are 10-2 in one run games and that pace is impossible to continue. It's been a real fun first two months, but just like last year...it's still real early.

horseofcourse 06-30-2012 11:50 PM

This just needs to be front paged again. It's looking ugly once again in all 3 sports. Tribe at this point the worst above .500 team in MLB history. It can't last too much longer. Tigers just biding time still. They'll be 5-10 up by mid September. White sox won't last.

horseofcourse 08-13-2012 10:29 PM

The artist formerly known as Fausto Carmona "exhausto" on this thread makes a start on August 15th. That's about as good as it gets in Cleveland these days!! Good times, good times! HE's got better knees than Trent Richardson at least.

horseofcourse 09-02-2012 04:35 AM

After beating Justin Verlander on July 26th, to go above .500 for the year, the Indians proceeded to lose 28 of their next 34 games. (And that's even with winning their last 1 in a row. 1-17 on their last two road trips combined. It's well oiled in Cleveland right now in all 3 sports. The Cavs were able to draft a Syracuse bench player with the 3rd pick in the NBA draft however. 0-16 is almost a guarantee for the Browns this year. It would be a monumental achievement to win even 1 game.)

more proof of how much I know my Cleveland sports.

dagolfer33 10-05-2012 10:07 AM

Now that Morty is back, I'm expecting some fresh commentary on the Browns and their quest to win a game this year.

pointmanscousin 10-06-2012 08:08 AM

When a team has receivers nicknamed ''Butterfngers","Oops" and "What was that??"....that team might be owned by a red neck.

The owners brother is governor of Tennessee.

The coach of the team is Mr. Rogers.

The president is a whale.

The Browns best player is the place kicker.( The worst part is, all this stuff is true....so bad) The title "worst player" is still being contested by several including the entire right side of the offensive line, from the center over.Only in the fifth week of this new season, Browns fans are already anxiously awaiting the 2013 baseball season.Management has created a quarterback controversy as fans would really, really like one.

But then there is a running back controversy, a wide receiver controversy, a a head coach controversy and a defensive unit controversy.

As they head into whatever city they head into ( it really doesn't matter) this Sunday, the team is in fairly pressing need of its first double u.Just one more win in their next 4 games will assure the team of a 1-7 record at the half way mark. Then, anything can happen and probably will. The Browns are capable of dropping 6 on any team in the NFL.

The qb's number is 3.Does he think he is the place kicker??

The head coach likes to hunt.Local deer have a come up with a new line..."He's got that coach in the headlights look."

Anyways, what do you expect from a team that has been rebuilding every other year for the last 13 years? It ain't woikin'.Maybe they will learn that,"If it's broke, don't fix it." Trying to fix things has not worked. It's time to start not fixing broke things. That's the way the Tribe does it, goddamity!

Classic line!!!!!!!:D Maybe their team campaign should be " We wear DOT orange cause we are always under construction."

pointmanscousin 10-06-2012 02:17 PM

Oh gosh....yours was easily better. You should write about the Browns;you don't have to know anything about the team. After all, Stevie Hasbeen doesn't know anything about horsey racing.

pointmanscousin 10-06-2012 02:49 PM

SportyFans, if you are thinking you had enough game information after 4 games this year in the BigTen....you are making a huge mistake.Mediocrity breeds false point shaving skills.

For all intents, the MLB season is like so over.Only local fans of play off teams care....unless you're dumb enough to be betting. Then you, too, care.Sort of.

That brings us to the NBA.

Why, I don't know.

But it does.

David Stern is now meeting with himself behind closed doors writing this season's script. So exciting.

Lastly, the Red Sox front office is finally looking smart. They fired Terry Francona as they did not think he knew what he is doing.Francona just announced strong interest in the Tribe's manager position, thereby corroborating the fact ,"He does not know what he is doing."

For those not in the know, Francona's m.o. really is not to do anything.

Have a swell Sporty Day, Sporty Fans!

pointmanscousin 10-07-2012 01:03 AM

So much for defense in college football.

Some of those games must have looked like a pin ball machine on speed..and you were, too.

The one game I was undecided on as to who I wanted to win was Cryami-Neutered Dame.I figured that whoever lost would be delightful so that's the way I viewed.I am so happy for Cryami fans everywhere.

The Indians hired Francona.

yay

At least they have chosen not to do anything.

Cleveland Browns football tomorrow!

Holy cow!

Let's watch....should be fun ( it won't).

The Francona hire stinks. He's washed up and a TV man now. I would have much preferred to give Alomar a shot. Looking at it un-biased....I still say Acta did a nice job with what he was given. He was given O baldo not vice versa. To be above .500 as long as he was in 2012 was simple brilliance.

horseofcourse 10-07-2012 10:28 AM

I was convinced pre-season the Browns would go 0-16, but I'm not as convinced of that any longer. they could go 2-14 or 3-13 and I will celebrate. Hick owner is gonna be fun though!!

horseofcourse 10-07-2012 10:37 AM

Kyrie Irving has a boat load of talent and is a nice kid, he's the one that will stay!!! I crack myself up.

I'm thinking drafting the Syracuse bench player number 3 and trading up to draft the tall white kid will convince him to stay. I'm still cracking myself up.

horseofcourse 10-07-2012 11:17 AM

I have to give credit to the backup OSU qb who twittered that they are not there for schoolin' and learnin and class takin. Honesty is greatly lackin in the world these days and give credit to him for some truth tellin. I wonder if sub-Urban had to correct him? That statement by him makes him more qualified to head the NCAA than anyone currently in charge there.

horseofcourse 10-07-2012 12:01 PM

Oh my God, the Browns are on TV in Idaho today, I thought last week was the last time I'd see them. I was happy about that. I may have to witness a bit of the carnage today just for fun!! The Hands of Greg Little will have to be a researched topic at some university somewhere.

horseofcourse 10-07-2012 12:07 PM

Browns ahead already and WEed Wacker hasn't tossed a pass yet.

pointmanscousin 10-07-2012 03:40 PM

Will catch up with you later( is still here)...Da Loss is after me and I am so frightened!!

horseofcourse 10-07-2012 03:50 PM

It appears to this untrained eye that Weed Wacker is the re-incarnation of Derek Anderson (who also wore number 3!!), an arm that at times makes you say wow, but in the end dumber than a bag of hammers. He throws behind receivers half the time, and the other half of his perfect throws the receivers drop half of them. It's not a good combination for winning. They really know how to lose though. Very good at it.

AS you stated earlier, Phil Dawson is simply superb at kicking field goals, best in the league, so there's that.

pointmanscousin 10-07-2012 06:41 PM

I did not see the game as per usual.

But they do show good signs here and there. The only problem is the good signs were bad signs in prior games when other signs were good.Today those former good signs were bad signs.

Maybe that's some form of strange progress; perhaps in the next 3 years they will get everyone moving in the same direction.

Francona seems like a nice guy.I think there are more important faces that the team needs...that being players.Competent players.Signing a guy who no one else wanted and who had no spring training....this must stop.

One good sign today is that instead of focusing on stopping the run or the pass, they decided to focus on neither so they were able to stop nothing. To be fair their best run defender, Jackson was hurt most of the game and their best pass defender, Haden has missed 4 straight games. That really helps nothing. They are competetive for chunks of games but never for a whole game, I guess that's part of being the youngest team in the NFL. You would think they can compete with Cincy next week, but I think they'll figure out a way to lose. They do get Haden back which should help pass defense.

horseofcourse 10-07-2012 11:18 PM

Tribe management was actually counting on Sizeless to fill the outfield gap prior to the 2012 season. Now that's saying something as to the front office. I used to defend them somewhat. Poor Grady is now a full body concussion. In the end I really don't care about Francona. No one could have won 70 games with the starting pitchers they threw out there this year.

pointmanscousin 10-08-2012 03:40 PM

The Browns' average age is 15.7.That might be the problem.

I agree, Alomar would have been the better choice.

Sizeless' signing....only the Indians front office is capable of doing the things they do.They fell for Sizeless' claim that his heart was still here. "I love the Tribe. After all,I took more money to come back."

horseofcourse 10-08-2012 08:07 PM

The Cavs front office is trying to join the Tribe and Browns. they drafted a college bench player with the number 3 pick overall then traded up to draft the tall white guy Zeller from North Carolina. I think they just were confused and wanted another white guy they could call "Big Z". They had that for about 10 years before I guess so why not do it again. Urban Saban Meyer is just creepy.

pointmanscousin 10-08-2012 08:54 PM

Gosh, that's very good.I never made that Z connection.

What interests me,too, is your Meyer reference. As you well know, over the recent years the NC's have been won by teams having hc's born and fb schooled in Ohio or at the very least strongly fb schooled in Ohio though not born here.

Meyer has won two NC's, yet he doesn't feel right.

I have lost a whole bunch of interest in sports even to the point I do not care what Ohio State does.It was very much upsetting to me that they dumped Luke Fickell, who took on a horrendous situation, and threw money at Meyer.Won't go into detail on this....just made me turn in my Ohio State leaves.

He is going to be trouble.

That may sound ridiculous, but that's what I think.

pointmanscousin 10-09-2012 06:54 PM

Mr. Rogers is not handling his ability to go through adversity( great football term, but so overused) sa hot.

He is getting very snarky with the media and using the "fucl<" word.

Livingston, the Cleveland writer, mentioned.... "There is soft, softer,Charmin soft and then there's Schurmur soft."

A ten pier if I ever saw one.

That's pretty funny.....I found this on the Syracuse bench player drafted number 3 overall and it seems as if the Cavs are all set to follow on the fine seasons of the Tribe and Brownies...

•The elephant in the room is Dion Waiters. Things have not gotten much better on the Waiters front after he came into the Summer League out of shape and shot only 30%. It is not time to panic and declare Waiters a bust or a future star in the making, but he needs to improve his play sooner than later if he wants to justify where he was selected. Dion Waiters finished the night with 2 points on 1-7 shooting, 3 assists and 4 turnovers. His jump shot looks broken. I am fine with him taking jumpers in the preseason if the intention is to tweak his shot and improve from a longer range. However, where Waiters will excel is in splitting double-teams and driving into the lane. Hopefully Waiters plays to his strengths instead of settling for lazy jump shots.

Now that seems like a guy who deserves to wear "Cleveland" laundary!

For the most part sports is comic relief for me. This is especially true following Cleveland sports. The hilarity of these billionaires holding cities hostage so they get their government welfare combined with highly paid athletes messing stuff up to the nth degree gives it all a train wreck feel that I can't help but continue to follow. Baseball is still by far the best. I think in regards to that it's by far the hardest to script. And I can still enjoy baseball postseason much more than the others. Tiggers/A's last night, Reds/Giants today still fantastic stuff.

So reassuring.

Maybe they can go 35 and 47 this year. That should be enough to get in that privileged group of NBA play off teams.

Of course, I am not privy to Stern's script.

Say, more on what you saw of Weeden. He's that bad on accuracy? You think he's another .DA.?

It's all become worse than government intervention and a lot more obvious. Yet it still goes on.

I can't berate anyone who likes watching it all, just had enough myself.

I make my own fantasy league in my noodle.Cleveland always wins .Fickel still coaches Ohio State and will go on to win 12 consecutive NC's.

He can throw. I think the big int was largely Mr Rogers fault as it's 3rd and 1, you traded up to draft this Richardson. In all honesty the kid actually does look really good. He should get minimum 25 carries a game I think. So you pull him out of the game and go empty backfield. You're up 17-10, the play is covered and Weeden throws about 10 yards behind the secondary receiver...interception. I didn't really watch much of the 2nd half. To me, he looks like a strong armed guy with limited intelligence, just hearing him interviewed and stuff. I think that was DAs downfall, just not smart enough to do it. Not that Brees, Manning, Brady etc are mensa members but they are very football smart listening to them. I hope I'm wrong about Weeden. The defensive backfield is embarrassing. The refs were very kind, they interfere on every single play except of course on the ones where the guy is 15 yards wide open and they called less than half of them. I stumbled through the rest of the first half and after that decided to pass on the 2nd...I'd seen more than enough.

He may not be as bad as DA accuracy wise, and it seems his misses are all throwing behind receivers so perhaps that's correctable with time. Of course he's already 29. I prefer him to little Colt I guess. And of course their alleged number 1 receiver, Little, couldn't catch venereal disease in a whore house which doesn't help either.

pointmanscousin 10-12-2012 05:18 PM

Thanks for the rundown.

It wasn't pretty ,but you can't make a swan from a water buffalo. The team just seems , sounds, kind of rudderless.Again we seem to have another coordinator promoted to his level of incompetency....i.e, The Peter Principle.

Just think back to 1999.Talented front office people have been hired, not the two baboons either(Policy and the GM).All those great draft choices for two years and throw in all of Ditka's team picks for Ricky What'sHisName.

But no.

horseofcourse 10-14-2012 09:23 AM

This is one the Brownies should have a chance. Joe Haden is back today, but I thought when they played Buffalo they had a chance and the put forth their worst performance. So in the end they'll figure out how to lose it. Mr Rogers will ensure it I believe. It always cracks me up watching the Tiggers in post season and seeing that Doug Fister who they picked up at the trade deadline for a bag of rocks pitch outstanding game after outstanding game in the playoffs, and yet we still have Obaldo!! It's very special. I remember going on Cleveland sporty threads and not armchair qb'ing stating how the pitcher the Tiggers got with no fanfare at all was far superior to the one we got the second the trades went down and they all laughed at me like I was insane almost. (I always like to redboard my analysis of those trades as it's rare that I am ever so right!!)

horseofcourse 10-14-2012 02:44 PM

Well, 10 point lead with 8 minutes left. Time to see what Mr Rogers can scheme up to blow this one!!

horseofcourse 10-14-2012 03:16 PM

BROWNS WIN, BROWNS WIN!!! It wasn't really that exciting, they dominated the 2nd half, completely. They'll have a shot to win next week too.
