Oh I can see it now!!!

Thanks!

_ed_ 01-29-2012 02:53 AM

Australian horse Ockham's Razor won the Million. Silk Pins second, Warhorse third.

2000 Guineas winner Rock 'n' Pop won the 3yo mile! He hit the lead at the top of the stretch, then another horse went straight by him. But he fought back so bravely. Great win.

my miss storm cat 01-29-2012 02:25 PM

I haven't looked for any news let alone watched replays yet so thank you and good for Rock'n'Pop!

Glad to hear two I had heard of were 2nd and 3rd :D.

Hope Dreamcoat finished well!

Me too!

Let me know if you find the results.

_ed_ 01-29-2012 03:50 PM

She didn't do very well, sadly. :( She was prominent for most of the race, but had to work quite hard to get to that forward position. She tired in the stretch.

my miss storm cat 01-29-2012 06:46 PM

It was a lot to ask of her... hopefully they do well and we continue hearing about these connections (and horse!).

_ed_ 02-02-2012 11:14 PM

HUGE clash in the Waikato Guineas at Te Rapa tomorrow - the Derby favourite vs the Oaks favourite.

1 1121 Ocean Park 2 85 56.5 Chad Ormsby Gary Hennessy, Matamata
2 12542 Shuka 7 80 56.5 Hayden Tinsley Peter & Dawn Williams, Byerley Park
3 32115 St Mark 5 70 56.5 Matthew Cameron John Sargent, Matamata
4 94656 Mustang 1 69 56.5 Shohei Shirahama (a) David Miller, Tauranga
5 02312 Guess What 3 65 56.5 Jonathan Riddell Paul Shailer, Matamata
6 15034 Viking Ace 4 65 56.5 Cameron Lammas Karyn McQuade, Matamata
7 25361 Barney 9 63 56.5 Craig Grylls Anne Herbert, Cambridge
8 X5610 Sacred Knight 8 61 56.5 Sam Spratt Stephen McKee, Ardmore
9 2131 Silent Achiever 6 82 54.5 James McDonald Roger James, Cambridge

If Silent Achiever wins, she's going to the Derby instead of the Oaks.

Rock 'n' Pop and Knight's Tour are still my Derby horses at the moment, but I'll watch this race with interest.

Shuka's a really nice horse as well - keeps running 2nd, 3rd and 4th in all the big races.

my miss storm cat 02-03-2012 11:22 AM

What an awesome match up!

Cant wait to see who wins here. :)

_ed_ 02-04-2012 02:52 AM

She beat him! And did it so effortlessly - ears pricked!

One of those performances where you really feel lucky to have been at the track to see it.

What a filly. Great to see Roger James have some luck with this new superstar after what happened with He's Remarkable.

I have a new #1 Derby horse, I think.

my miss storm cat 02-04-2012 10:54 AM

Oh that is awesome! Again I wanted to hear it from you before I watched the replay which I'll do in a bit.

Lucky you! So glad you were there!!!

I'm almost afraid to ask where Shuka finished... :)

_ed_ 02-04-2012 06:45 PM

Haha, you can probably guess. Poor guy. He'll win one some day.

my miss storm cat 02-04-2012 06:58 PM

Yeah I saw that when I watched the replay.

Someday! :D

Beautiful win! What a nice girl she is.

_ed_ 02-07-2012 06:13 PM

First off, you GO Mufhasa!!!!! :tro:

I don't know a lot of the names in the filly race but ummm the field for the International? I would die seeing all those horses at once!

Amazing!

Why did I think Goldschatz was hurt or retired?

Six O'Clock News is on quite a roll these days and hooray of course but you know who would be so cool if they won (illiterate)?

Vosne Romanee. :)

I wish I were going!

_ed_ 02-08-2012 01:46 AM

I think Goldschatz did have an injury, but NZ beaches work miracles sometimes. :)

It would be so good to see VR win, but he hasn't looked like doing that for a while now. But I'd love it if he did!

Early odds for the two G1 races...

International:

Hold It Harvey 7
Six O'Clock News 12
Booming 8.50
Doctor Fremantle 13
Vosne Romanee 26
Goldschatz 81 (!!)
Sum Up 26
Postman's Daughter 11
Shez Sinsational 3f
Arcenciel 41
Rock 'n' Pop 3.80

Wow that is nuts.

Fantastic news about Eagle Mountain!

How's Jimmy doing? Any updates lately?

_ed_ 02-08-2012 04:03 PM

Jimmy's having some time off. It sounds like he might be back around late March/early April.

I now own 3% of three horses! They are...

http://www.nzracing.co.nz/GoRacing/H...le.aspx/264961 Pinzaara, trained by Stephen McKee (trainer of Sunline and Mufhasa!)

http://www.nzracing.co.nz/GoRacing/H...le.aspx/254021 So Regal, trained by John Sargent (Red Ruler's trainer!)

And an unnamed 2yo filly trained by Peter and Dawn Williams, who train Planet Rock and Shuka.

Exciting! Pinzaara races Wednesday next week, actually. I'm gonna try and get off work early and see if I can be there.

my miss storm cat 02-08-2012 04:19 PM

Oh my God are you kidding? That is sensational!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow huge names (some trainers!) and one is by Pins and the other was in a race with Arakti... I am absolutely thrilled for you!!!

Congrats and best of luck my friend and you had better post every single time they breathe (you know what I mean)!!! :D

_ed_ 02-08-2012 09:16 PM

Thanks! It's really exciting. :) I just stumbled across the opportunity by accident, saw it comes to about US$160 per month, and I couldn't resist!

It's gonna be great to meet those trainers. I hope I can congratulate Stephen McKee on another great win by Mufhasa when I meet him next week.

I'll definitely keep you up to date on these kids!

_ed_ 02-11-2012 03:16 AM

Wow, some surprises on the big day at Te Rapa today.

So close, but so far for Mufhasa. :( Everything went wrong for him today. He had a terrible trip. But he fought so hard down the stretch anyway! Congrats to the terrific Veyron.

Shez Sinsational won the International very nicely from Harvey and a fast-finishing Rock 'n' Pop - excellent Derby prep from him.

Zurella was strong in the fillies' race. She might be going to the Derby too - looks like a big group of girls taking on the colts and geldings in the big one this year.

my miss storm cat 02-11-2012 11:45 AM

Awww poor Mufhasa.

Haven't looked at results or watched any replays yet so thanks for the news.

Good for Ms. Sinsational though.

_ed_ 02-12-2012 11:12 PM

It's definitely worth watching. The Sprint was a great race. Mufhasa got as much applause for his effort as the winner.

Pinzaara's not running this week after all. Stephen McKee said she's not quite race-fit.

_ed_ 02-14-2012 01:04 PM

Knight's Tour is out of the Derby - leg injury. :(

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news...ectid=10785379

Also, in that same article, big news about Banchee. I'll make a post in the Retirements thread.

my miss storm cat 02-14-2012 02:25 PM

Noooo! That's such a shame.

Sorry, ed. I know you were waiting for that next extraordinary win.

Oh so you know there's a shiny new retirements / health / etc room so I hope you'll add both of them there too. You're the only one who can do them justice.

Shame about Knight's Tour.

Did you read about King's Rose? Nice way to bow out and hey she has a fun travel companion.

http://www.racingandsports.com.au/ra...asp?NID=239403

my miss storm cat 02-15-2012 10:22 AM

What do you think? Which shoujld they go for?

Mufhasa has the option of running in the G1 Haunui Farm Classic at Otaki on the same day as the Futurity but it is worth only $NZ200,000 compared to the half million Aussie dollars on offer at Caulfield.

Oops, sorry, didn't notice that! I'll use that from now on.

It is a shame. He was definitely in my Derby top 3. But he'll be back later in the year. :) The Derby's only 16 days away now, by the way! Been busy lately, so it's really snuck up on me.

Ooh, that's a hard one. But I think Black Caviar's going for the Futurity, isn't she? We all know Mufhasa's great, but I don't think he's quite that great. Winning the Classic at Otaki might be a better option than coming 2nd in the Futurity.

_ed_ 02-15-2012 04:14 PM

And, speaking of the Derby, it's the final prep race this Saturday - the G2 Avondale Guineas. The super filly is running again. :D And so's good old Shuka.

1 25423 Shuka 1 80 56.5 Hayden Tinsley Peter & Dawn Williams, Byerley Park
2 112 Carrick 5 72 56.5 Leith Innes Tony Pike & Mark Donoghue, Cambridge
3 00191 Roamin 8 70 56.5 Jason Waddell Robert Priscott & Clayton Chipperfield, Te Awamutu
4 31316 Travolta 9 70 56.5 Jonathan Riddell John Kiernan, Te Horo Beach
5 40332 Mr Chez 6 68 56.5 Chad Ormsby Graeme & Debbie Rogerson, Tuhikaramea
6 1X363 Colorado Sun 11 65 56.5 Patrick Holmes Shane Crawford, Cambridge
7 23124 Guess What 4 65 56.5 Reese Jones Paul Shailer, Matamata
8 71 Game Changer 3 63 56.5 Christopher Dell (a) Tony Cole, Te Kauwhata
9 56106 Sacred Knight 10 61 56.5 Craig Grylls Stephen McKee, Ardmore
10 21311 Silent Achiever 7 86 54.5 James McDonald Roger James, Cambridge
11 421 Tilda 2 63 54.5 Masa Tanaka Jeff McVean & Emma-Lee Browne, Cambridge

They should run 1-2 here, I think. Mr Chez for 3rd.

my miss storm cat 02-15-2012 05:10 PM

I hope youre right... 1 - 2.

Can't believe the Derby is that soon!

_ed_ 02-15-2012 08:14 PM

Current Derby odds...

Barney 18
Carrick 14
Colorado Sun 100
Dusty Miller 500
Hope So 100
Jeroboam 51
Joy's Choice 51
Lieutenant Lincoln 200
Mr Chez 21
Nine Pin 31
Ocean Park 3.80
Red Shift 31
Roamin 51
Rock 'n' Pop 5
Sacred Warrior 81
Shuka 9
Travolta 21
Viking Ace 81
Zurella 7
Silent Achiever 3.50f

Maybe a few names you aren't that familiar with here. I'll try to change that between now and then!

But it does seem like the top group of four or five are a long way ahead of the others. Red Shift is the only one at longer odds that I think has any upset chance.

I hope you have the time to... I look forward to it every time around. :)

Are any of these listed with Mike Moroney?

Hey how on earth is Xcellent doing??!!

_ed_ 02-15-2012 09:59 PM

No Moroney runners in the Derby. His best 3yo this season is a filly called Chicarita (won the G2 Royal Stakes). It looks like she's being set for the Oaks on March 17.

I haven't heard anything about Xcellent for a long time! But I think he's still enjoying a happy retirement at a luxurious property somewhere in Cambridge.

Beyond words.
