At Penn National the other night...

I haven't heard anything about the horses or jockeys.

Anyone know?

Zidane, who broke down and initiated the pileup, was reported elsewhere as sustaining injuries requiring euthansia, unfortunately ...

The horse was also claimed from this race ...

PA racing is really grisly currently ...

This was yet another sad chapter...

1/17 - 6th Race, Philadelphia Park

Greatest Passion, a 4 year-old gelding broke down on the far turn and was humanely destroyed.

my miss storm cat 01-18-2010 12:04 PM

I added both to the angels thread. Thanks for finding out.

my miss storm cat 02-23-2010 11:40 AM

Awww I hate adding this name. Hope he's okay.

Mr. Umphrey...

http://www.equibase.com/static/chart...022210USA7.pdf

Any news is appreciated.

my miss storm cat 03-07-2010 10:51 AM

The Big Truck rumors continue...

Can anyone confirm this or put an end to it?

Apparently there was / might have been an incident at Tampa Bay the other day...

I hate posting rumors but if anyone knows either way...

my miss storm cat 03-08-2010 12:26 PM

Poor guy.

my miss storm cat 03-10-2010 12:31 PM

Can anyone confirm the Shark story (that he died on a flight on the way to Caracas)?

my miss storm cat 03-14-2010 06:45 PM

Sacred Light and Six Cents of Humor were both vanned off today (Golden Gate).

Any news?

I'm asking again for any news on Mr. Umphrey.

I know there's one forum where he's on the farewell list but i can't find any confirmation and so will continue hoping for the best.

Yeah I know Freddy.

Mr. Umphrey was at Philly. 7k.

That for a horse who had been in the Met Mile?

I know, I know... rabbit for Silver Wagon, for Diamond Stripes but still...

I know I'm probably a fan of too many (of the non-greats) but I always had a soft-spot for him and I just want to know either way. That's all.

They deserve one little final mention somewhere.

If I see their name(s), I'll mention them. If I was a fan I'll write as much or something I remember.

Does it matter? No.

It's just something I do... it's just something I do because it's all I can do and if other people don't see it or don't get it or think it's idiotic that's fine.

It's just me.

I hope this guy is alright and if not i hope he didn't have to suffer for too long.

If I never find out well I can still hope that either way his last moments will not be or were not completely terrible and frightening.

I guess I hope that for all of us.

Okay why don't I shut up now.

I made money on Bernardini the day Barbaro broke down..........I would have glady given it back if he would have never gotten hurt. There will never be a day that I won't care more about the horses than my bankroll. Keep doing what you are doing MMSC, there are many that care greatly about the welfare of the horses that get hurt, and I am one of them.

chucklestheclown 03-14-2010 10:50 PM

Ditto.
Fix your cat Mo.

Merlinsky 03-15-2010 12:01 AM

Keep right on truckin' MMSC. I appreciate it. Sometimes you're the first person to let me know something happened to a horse I was fond of.

Indian Charlie 03-15-2010 12:29 AM

Freddy's just being a tard, don't pay him no mind.

my miss storm cat 03-15-2010 12:35 PM

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the kind posts. :)

We lost Golden Caesar at Aq on 3/11 after his 3rd race in a month.

Echo Farm 03-15-2010 02:06 PM

Sacred Light pulled up lame and was vanned off at GG yesterday.

http://www.equibase.com/static/chart...031410USA4.pdf

For those who don't remember, he was a derby contender, but ended up 23rd in graded earnings (97k). He finished 9th at Belmont and 4th in the Ohio Derby. After that he went progressively downward racing in Allowance, AOC, and Claiming races. He's been in the Hollendorfer barn since 1/4/09

He's earned $380k lifetime.

Colby Hernandez went down very hard, trying to check with a colleague of mine who owns and races over there as to the status of those involved.

Merlinsky 03-20-2010 11:10 PM

Wow I'm just kind of stunned. That's insane to read. My imagination about what it must've been like for those at the track just goes all sorts of places that aren't very pleasant. Geez. :(

Danzig 04-04-2010 09:36 AM

Sincero-he ran in the sixth at gulfstream yesterday. blew the first turn, apparently the saddle slipped-he veered to the outside on the backstretch and flipped over the outer rail. was wondering if anyone knew how he and the rider came out of that?

I don't know if this is accurate or not (hopefully it is) but on another forum they're saying both are okay.

This is a little off-topic but I heard Glencrest Farms (who had the Indiana fire last month) has a Derby contender. Does anyone know who it is or have any further updates on the mares/foals that died? Not to be callous but.

They have Devil May Care. I assume she's the contender unless there's another one. We should know more about whether she's going after her work this weekend. I'm not sure about the mares and foals. What info did you want to know? I'm sure the names are out there somewhere, but I don't know what other details there are.

Merlinsky 04-24-2010 07:29 PM

Quiet Steps broke his ankle at Pimlico Thursday during his career debut in the 3rd race and was euthanized. RIP.

Someone told me a horse fell over after him, and I was wondering if he was okay but I don't know the name for sure--was it Justkeepcomingback? I assumed so since they were the last two names on the chart but I couldn't find details. It sounds like the two jockeys are alright.

The Glencrest Farm that owns Devil May Care has nothing to do with the farm in IN with the fire.
