He does...here let me show you a video of him with pictures...he has an ENORMOUS heart girth.

At 3:52, who does he remind you of with all that muscling and huge heart girth?

i just don't see how you can compare todays horses to those of the 70's, when you admit you never saw them back then. if you had seen them, you'd realize how ludicrous it is to say that curlin is a throwback to that time.

You're giving her far too much credit.

Danzig 03-01-2008 01:43 PM

take some pepto and go lay down for a bit...

Danzig 03-01-2008 01:44 PM

i am on the edge of my seat waiting to see who he reminds ky of....

andy you know t pleach is going all out..if it gets ruined oh well..hes got 5 more just like em...and that is the sad part for smaller trainers..the owners love to say t.a.p is their trainer..but in reality they are not getting the same shake {personal attention} that a smaller outfit would give ..plotting a course for the horse and doing the right thing.. ive seen pleacher f up some horses at 2 then oh well when hes better will run em ..meanwile the owners pay and pay...if they dont like it tough shiet

blackthroatedwind 03-01-2008 01:46 PM

It's just more of the " I know better than you even though I know nothing " that has made for some laughs but is tiresome.

I understand. It took me a long time to realize why it annoyed serious horseplayers when I pestered them with my know-it-all attitude as a little kid. Eagerness to learn is great. Lecturing those that know significantly more than you about even the things they claim to know little about is boorish and tiresome.

One of the reasons this is the world's greatest game is that there is so much to learn that we easily get confused when as novices we think we know a lot, and we do, but it is still just the tip of the iceberg.

I'm trying to cut her some slack....be just my luck that she goes on to be a nurse at whatever nursing home I end up in. :D

You get a top notch operation when you hire Todd. You get accessability and a trainer that is highly attuned to what's going on. Blaming Todd for the course of this horse is naive, and I'm not doing that, as it is often the owner that forces a more aggressive path. We rarely know what goes on behind the scenes ( and those of us that do are unlikely to repeat them here ).

I don't disagree that smaller outfits, with good trainers, may be more beneficial in certain situations. But, I will disagree with anyone that says Todd Pletcher doesn't run a very good operation. The guy is very smart and he, along with his assistants, know very well what they are doing.

im not saying anything but what you stated that todd may be tossing this one in in an attempt to have a derby horse..it may be the owners ..and i dont know ..he is a first class operation and they are good at what they do..but they are very big..and that initself has problems..imo

I don't disagree one bit.

brockguy 03-01-2008 02:19 PM

can someone tell me how many sets of colours Curlin has ran in in his career. Seems like a change of silks every race...

that should change. the partnership had owners with their own silks, so they took turns in each race. but now just two owners, with jackson the majority owner.

Who does he look like, and who is he built like?

Just because he is built like him and looks similar to him in that picture does not mean he is him.

Payson Dave 03-01-2008 03:31 PM

I honestly did like the video....

truly, it would not surprise me if that was what she was aiming at.

I did not mean for anyone to be picked
on. I just thought Curlin looked like
a submarine on that crazy video
from equidaily.

We're not picking on anyone... lots of horses have resembled Secretariat and I believe that is all she was referring to anyway.

herkhorse 03-01-2008 09:34 PM

If this thread was on The Gong Show, I would have rang the bell a while back.

If Curlin is physically like any of the greats it's Affirmed.

Disagree ... Affirmed had a more finely wrought head and leaner neck and was not as muscle bound ... Overall he was less bulked up and butch ... Undoubtably the reference was to Secretariat, coy as it was ....

I didn't think Affirmed was a very big horse.

Linny 03-01-2008 10:40 PM

Affirmed had a bigger heartgirth and weighed more than Secretariat.

Secretariat was 16'2, 1200 lbs and had a huge heart girth. Affirmed must have been some kind of monster.

Danzig 03-01-2008 11:31 PM

74.5-affirmeds girth size, who stood at 16.1, with alydar at 16.1 1/2 and the same size girth as affirmed-this at the end of their 3 yo season-from the t'bred legends book.
secretariat had a 75" girth according to an article from time. edit--that article was also when secretariat was three, before the belmont i believe. the two above were measured at the end of their 3 yo season, according to the book.

Linny 03-01-2008 11:57 PM

I'll ask the person who gave me the info. I think he got it from Richard Stone Reeves.
