for one it encourages new people to post, as registered members they can just spontaneaously respond rather than have to go through the process of registering before posting. It limits the dispersal of information to registered members...we got tired of seeing posts lifted and posted at other boards to insult and ridicule Derby Trail. If we ban or delete a member we know that that person no longer has access to the site. The registration process has also cut down dramatically on the number of people here with multiple identities, since we now check IP's against current members before a new account is verified. |

I think I liked talking about playing with ourselves better. :p

We could spend all night talking about Sharon's incoherent ramblings though. No joke... Her posts don't bother me in the slightest bit, but when they turn to taking stabs at Steve, I just don't get it. If this place is so damn bad, then don't let the door hit you on the way out! You know? |

i'm 'semi' alone a few more days. tony is on shift, graveyards right now-sucks. just when i get used to having a bed (and ALL the pillows) to myself, he'll be off graveyards and back with me at night--of course, that situation is much more fun getting used to;) . but then it's evenings, and they stink too. |
My two cents is "the more public, the better."
So long as the attack is on the post, and not the poster, pretty much all is fair game by me. For stuff I see I don't like or care about, I can always skip or scroll. But that said, I do appreciate some minor fences to keep innane driveby trolls and flamers at bay. I'm on a sports team board that started over a decade ago on a forum of a newspaper. Begrudgingly, it was taken private about six years ago....and remains that way. Now, we can raise all kinds of heck with each other and our opinions, but at least we all know that bottom line in the long run we all want our organization to do well. As long as people who post here give an occasional hoot about thoroughbred racing from any angle, I say "the more the merrier." |
