I really think the best choice for SA is Travis Stone. He is the best young race caller I've seen (heard) in over 50 years of my racing.

Now they're all in

Love Trav. Couple weeks of listening to old Jim Hannon tapes honed his game into the perfect mix of blood and guts needed for Santa Anita . he is ready for the big job on the left coast

Racing! Santa Anita announces that @Michael_Wrona has been tabbed as the permanent replacement for Trevor Denman. Congratulations. (1/2)

Congrats to Michael Wrona. Very talented, i am sure he will do a wonderful job.
I do feel bad for Frank, i am sure he will handle this with the class he has displayed throughout his career.

Seattleallstar 03-24-2016 11:39 AM

I still would prefer Vic but Wrona is ok

herkhorse 03-24-2016 02:55 PM

Wrona's OK. I just can't get past the accent, especially after putting up with Denman all those years. I'm so friggin shallow. :o

At least it wasn't frank. Although I do hope he lands a job calling races. His handicapping on TVG is not good. Saw him hand out his "best bet" the other day that lost at 3/5.

This.

Wow. Like every topic in society these days, expressing any opinion turns into a snarling, grandstanding opportunity for those with an alternative view. Congratulations to Michael Wrona on the Santa Anita gig. He'll do a fine job. I'd have preferred Frank Mirahmadi.

Mirahmadi also would have been an excellent choice, but your "opinion" that Wrona was becoming "less appealing" as a candidate suggests you didn't know what you were listening to. Just my opinion.

Not to be dismissive Peter, but, huh? It's all subjective. I really liked Michael's sound the first week and as the subsequent weeks followed, I was less enamoured. That's when the opinions at the start of the thread were being formed and expressed. Sorry that my comment was so direct. By the end of this (unfair to both candidates) process, I could sense there wouldn't be a 'bad' choice. But at no point are all horseplayers/race watchers going to be uniform in their preference for a caller in any job.

That's a fair response and assessment. As a close friend of both Michael and Frank, I was almost hoping an outsider would get the nod. In the end, it clearly came down to a beauty contest.

I woukd hope one of my close friends got the job rather than an outsider. If you want to have a friend , you have to be a friend.

How does that suggest that the boss doesn't know what he is listening to . :zz:

I'm sure Frank will get the Golden Gate gig, since they are going need an announcer.
