AP apparently called Cardus, estimate of 2,000 people in Foley Park: doctors, Verizon workers, unions have joined up with the protesters. NYPD just closed air space to NBC and CBS helicopters who were filming protest.

Russia Today?

The Economist magazine which classified RussiaToday's reporting as "weirdly constructed propaganda" has suggested that the channel has provided a platform to conspiracy theorists. Julia Ioffe claims that Russia Today is a Kremlin propaganda outlet featuring "fringe-dwelling experts" and "was just a way to stick it to the U.S. from behind the façade of legitimate newsgathering."

An article published in The New Republic by James Kirchick characterized the news reportage of Russia Today as, "virulent anti-Americanism, worshipful portrayal of Russian leaders, and comical production values," that "can't help but revive the pettiness that was a distinctive feature of Soviet-era propaganda."[25]

An article by Accuracy in Media criticized RT as a "propaganda network funded by the Moscow regime of Vladimir Putin" and charged that it "regularly features Marxist and radical commentators. The article also cites the description of the network by former KGB officer Konstantin Preobrazhensky as “a part of the Russian industry of misinformation and manipulation” designed to mislead foreign audiences about Russian intentions."Furthermore, Preobrazhensky argues that Russia Today utilizes methods of propaganda that are "managed by Directorate 'A' of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service...with the specialty of Directorate ‘A’ is deceiving world public opinion and manipulating it. It has got a lot of experience over decades of the Cold War."

Yes, "that" Russia Today. Al Jazzera and Russia Today have been faithfully live-streaming the Ustream videos, then CNN a bit and MSNBC some. Faux News reported that the park was littered with needles last night (sheer lie). CNN had their camera trained on an empty Zuccotti park for an hour today, while they marched on NYSE. Duh.

In a city of 10+ million is a gathering of 2000 people a big deal? Hell the Knicks get more than that and you have to be a 1%'er to afford a ticket.

I'm just amazed that people think this is actually accomplishing something other than costing the city millions, aggravating people who live near the protests and tying up traffic? In the end nothing changes by doing this and interupting city council meetings and blocking bridges.

Of course you are forgetting that Russia Today and Al Jazzera may have a captive anti-American audience to sell this to. Outside of the potential for some gratitous police violence I dont think most of America over 25 really care that much anymore. Like I said the cause may be just but the methods are becoming less and less justifiable.

Three months ago, the news was talking about debt and austerity. Now the news talks about income inequality. It's a start.

Income inequality isn't something that can be protested away. The thing is that most of what these people are protesting cant be changed through protesting. This isnt the civil right movement where things were black and white (pun again).

:zz: No. You mentioned a couple thousand people shouldn't be hard to cope with. I agreed. The TG parade is massively more amounts of people walking in (from parking to the parade) and out, like the protests are walking in to the park and over to another.

Yes, it is clear the American news media is barely covering the two months of Occupy, in hundreds of towns in the US, unless there is violence. Yes, Occupy changed the conversation in the one example I gave and said, "it's a start".

The Civil Rights movement didn't ask for specific demands, specific laws - they demanded general ideals of equality, justice under the constitution, etc. Then the politicians created the appropriate laws and political process.

Same thing. The protest is saying that American citizens are fed up with corporate ownership of our government, of plutocracy. Before you change it, you identify it. We happen to have lawmakers that do NOT want to change a thing.
