I've had this discussion before, contrary to belief I have moved on. But if others want to beat this topic to a pulp, this is fine by me.

Translation: You're right. We both know I have no response, so I'll fake like I'm above the conversation. Hopefully some people buy it.

Better luck phishing for a fight with someone else.

slotdirt 08-05-2010 11:15 AM

Oh, and an early deduction from the judges for CSC for using the word "ph"ishing in a sentence. Recovering from that error will prove difficult.

CSC 08-05-2010 11:24 AM

If you are going to correct people here, atleast get the spelling right.

"phishing" also referred to as brand spoofing or carding, is a variation on "fishing," the idea being that bait is thrown out with the hopes that while most will ignore the bait, some will be tempted into biting.

Unlike your metabolism ... I won't ignore you.

I don't think it's any harder making figures for synthetic than it is for dirt. In fact, it's probably easier at most synthetic tracks.

The supposed "problems" come when the horses change surfaces.

Synthetic tracks make top horses look a little worse than they are - and they make bad horses look a little better than they are. As your facebook homeboy Baffert likes to say.

If you win by 3 lengths on turf or synthetic - it's a full fledged ass kicking. If you beat a field by the same margin on dirt ... it's a more competitive race.

That is why a bunch of horses who would consistantly run 50's on synthetic would not even come close to being able to run that fast when put on dirt. However, synthetic horses at the top end who handle dirt should be able to run faster numbers on dirt because dirt races are almost always truly run.

Our generation is fine with it, the old cranky people set in their ways just bitch and complain instead of educating themselves on it. It isn't like they can't just avoid it.

Bet you take a poll and people from 0-30 are fine with synthetics, people from 31-40 will be unfavored, and people 41+ the majority will hate it.

I cant stand synthetics.

how old are you again?

This is completely unfounded and made up. I'm 23 and I'm not fine with them. In fact, I don't know anybody IRL, of any age, that likes them. There may be arguments for synthetics, but "if you hate them you're probably a geezer" sure as hell isn't one of them.

Obviously there are strays within data, but if you take some surveys and attached it to age, my belief is you would see that the younger generation has no problem with synthetics, and probably prefers it.

letswastemoney 08-05-2010 01:03 PM

I'm 27 and I don't like synthetics :(

It F's up history and makes people think synthetic winners belong on the list of best dirt horses ever.

Take all the data you want, but I believe that majority of people any age don't care either way. They are pure gamblers that couldn't care less if the horses were running on dirt, poly or broken glass.

Scav 08-05-2010 01:05 PM

The more I think about half the younger generation that actually follows horse racing is probably here so maybe I am wrong.

Call me crazy, most if not all my action is on synthetics. Barely play dirt.

No offence but I don't know who Riot is, I'll try to do better but I have moved on from that dragged out topic. We can revisit it after the BC however.

I really can't wait to see the reaction of our California contingent when the Breeders Cup is in Louisville and Zenyatta's running her 20th race somewhere in Southern California.

Can you give me the other fillies besides RA and Zenyatta who have tried to run against older horses in the marquee races on dirt/syn of the past decade or so? Races like the Woodward, JCGC, SA Derby, Hol GC, PC, Clark, Foster, Pim Special, and BC Classic?

I came up with like two. Turf yes its done more often, especially the mile distance.
