Except when they play Notre Dame. Then they are America's team.

They currently arent. Denver is like the 17th largest TV market in the country that would now be Pac-10 territory. It is by far the largest TV market in the Mountain time zone. The expansion gives the pac 10 the LA market(2), SF market(6), Dallas/Ft Worth(7), Houston (10), Seattle(13), Phoenix(14), Denver(17), Sacramento (19) and Portland (23)markets. That is 9 out of the top 23 TV markets in the country. Don't you think that is a whole lot more important clout-wise than kansas basketball? You don't think that every Sat night in the fall we are going to get ABC or Fox double headers featuring pac 10 teams? You don't think that the new pac-10 football championship isn't going to be a major deal?

The really troubling thing is that these same college presidents that are selling out thier conference partners for a bigger piece of the pie will howl with indignity if a player gets a pair of shoes or if someone buys their parents a plane ticket to see them play. "It's all about the student-athlete" they will cry and some idiots will actuall believe them. KY's president willing signed up calipari knowing full well that the shadester will virtually only "recruit" one and done guys who will most likely not bother to attend class but for one semester. USC's president ignored Carroll's players being better paid than some NFL teams and now they are going to the sidelines while Carroll gets paid to screw up the Seahawks.

Actually Phoenix is the largest TV market in Mountain time...

but I agree with you on every other point.

Cannon, so what if the Pac-10 is in television sets in Denver? Are you suggesting they're not typically on there already provided there isn't a conflict with Colorado? And the point was that nobody in Denver cares about college football, just like nobody in vast swaths of the greatest Northeast cares about college football. I laugh at the folks who think the Big Ten are going to take Rutgers because they get the "New York" market - what do you think the ratings are for Rutgers football games in New York? They're not very high, I can tell you that much.

Am a Rutgers alum who lived in NYC for nearly half his life. Ratings for RU football are terrible (at best!) While there's a lot of reasons why Rutgers would fit well in the Big Ten, I also laugh at the grab for ratings in NY.

Definitely disagree.

Phil, Arizona is not in Mountain time. They have their own time zone and do not change the clocks. half they year they are on mountain time and half the year they are on pacific time.

Edit: I guess Arizona is considered Mountain time zone eventhough they do not change the clocks. They are on Pacific time during the summer and Mountain time during the winter, so most college sports would fall under mountain time.

arizonadave 06-14-2010 08:04 AM

Yep we are mountain time zone and our time never changes. we also have one of the best baseball teams in the nation, the ASU Sun Devils. the addition of these teams will be fun to watch. Go Devils!

cowherd reporting, texas, tt, colorado, utah to the pac-10. tam to the sec.

Crown@club 06-14-2010 11:16 AM

This is how it is for Kansas. Utah is more wanted.

slotdirt 06-14-2010 11:21 AM

What is the cost/benefit analysis for KU going to the Pac-10? I'd have to think it would be a complete logistical nightmare.

LOL

You just cant stand the fact that no one wants them. You must have been in mourning when Larry brown and Roy Williams bolted.

slotdirt 06-14-2010 02:27 PM

Why would you think nobody wants them? I was just suggesting that KU to the PAC-10 would make zero sense from a logistical standpoint, thus the likelihood that Utah joins.

Uh... because no one seems to want them? You really think that Kansas wouldn't go to the Pac 10 or Big 10 or SEC if asked?

logistical nightmare, TT to wash st, oregon st.:zz:

dalakhani 06-14-2010 05:09 PM

The fact is that conference deals are all about football, football and football. Cannon, Crown and DD are right- No one wants those schools because they wouldnt open up any prime television markets for football.

Basketball has no impact at all on the equation. None at all.

That would be alright. Move Auburn to the East.

dalakhani 06-14-2010 06:17 PM

They are staying. I bet they go after a couple of schools to go back to 12 so that they can have a title game.

Cannon Shell 06-14-2010 06:18 PM

Sounds like Kansas is saved from the MWC. Texas got its sweetheart deal to stay.
