Has anybody even worked that kind of deal for a good filly?

I doubt you could get 10 million. How many babies, how well will they sell? Racing her is the major repay on her purchase price for new owners in my view?

maybe they can take her to dubai for the world cup classic next spring. that would recoup much of the purchase price.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I thought Jess Jackson did everything perfectly from a fan perspective. We wanted to see Curlin as a 4YO- he did it. We wanted to see him try turf- he did it. We wanted to see him go back to dirt- he did it. We wanted to see him in the BC Classic- he did it. Why is Jess Jackson buying Rachel Alexandra so bad, especially if he's gonna do exactly what MOST racing fans want, to run her against males?

You can't pass up a chance at the Triple Crown..Triple Crown is once in a lifetime opportunity. Who knows how many more chances Borel will have?

good post....

I dont think Jess Jackson is the problem (though I've heard lots of people in the industry have a problem with him)

I think its ASSMAN that people would be upset about... I mean... who really wants to see ASSMAN train any good horse??

Danzig 05-06-2009 06:00 PM

calvin has the chance to win the preakness on the best horse he's ever ridden...or go for the tc on a horse who probably hasn't got much chance to do so.

it'd be a tough call to make i would think.

you take the better horse. rachel is it. the chances of mine that bird winning out is somewhere between exceedingly slim and none. lol

i'd love to have the chance to make that choice tho!!!

I thought I heard if she ran in the Belmont, and a TC was on the line, he'd still take her. Did someone put words in his mouth or did Calvin say that? I'm in a foul mood about her leaving Wiggins but leaving Calvin would just be beyond wrong. I'm gonna guess he goes with her in the Preakness should he be asked to choose but for all we know, them that shall not be named will just grab somebody else who has a higher tooth-to-mouth ratio that our dear Calvin. Why stop now Jess?

Is there a shot we can get 14 in the Preakness? If so, no Rachel no matter how bad he wants it.

Once thing's for certain... this situation doesn't occur too frequently.

Probably not many, because according to some people around here he's a low percentage jockey

Sure, his hyperbole got very annoying. I found it easy to tune him out, however, it was mostly over the top. I get the anti-Asmussen remarks without a doubt, however, what stuck out the most to me about this thing was that we're finally going to be able to see just how good Rachel Alexandra really is and as a fan that's exciting.

A lot of high percentage jockeys never win the Derby

I'm fully aware of that. That wasn't directed to you though- apologies for the confusion.
