I have hardly ever seen a horse cross-fire in a race, and I haven't ever seen any GI horses do it. There is a reason for that.

perfect prep for him. He won as he was supposed to as I said earlier, he was very well in at the weights and there were many doubts about all the others save the runner up who put in a respectable performance. Much bigger fish next time in the DWC, Asiatic Boy, Latency, Happy Boy, Vermillion etc.. Just to note that the bookies over here shortened him to 4/5 to win the DWC after today.

Curlin is odds-on to call it a day following the Dubai World Cup.

I like how Curlin is back on the road to greatness despite basically being forsaken last summer because he was mortalized in the Derby, emasculated in the Belmont, and embarrassed in the Haskell.

They even let him get away at nearly 5-1 in the BC Classic, and yet that performance on a fluky surface somehow erases all the kinks he's displayed in his armor.

But once he retires immediately following the DWC, I'm sure he and his villainous owner, Jess Jackson, will be back on the chopping block on racing message boards throughout the land.

to ever step on a track. I don't think Curlin would have gotten Holy Bull out of a jog, let alone the real greats in the history of the sport.

right ... he couldent hold their jock.. and as far as the 10 years from now .he didint win the tc or even the derby..so dream on ..

Curlin is a very nice horse

heck, I can still visualize his maiden win at Gulfstream. 9/5 or 5/2. Trained by Helen Pitts. I keyed him on top. Curlin kinda blew the turn drifted out to the middle of the track, gathered himself and took off for an easy win.

3rd in the Derby
1st in the Preakness... Curlin looked huge when he came back to get Street Sense.
2nd in the Belmont (a short head from a win)

1st in the BC Classic (all alone)

hopefully 1st in the DWC

no he won't.

All time greats, I'm not sure... but I've seen him run live 5 times now, and he's damn good, DAMN good- and I've never been a fan of his. The Haskell was a clunker but other than that he's never run a bad race, the Derby was a very respectable effort all things considered. The rest of the races were excellent to outstanding. Let's be serious... there isn't a horse in the States that can warm him up right now.

I liked Robby's approach to the race, put him in the clear, just do enough, save the big run for the DWC.

Robby Albarado deserves as much credit for this horse's success as I do for the Giants Super Bowl win. Give me a break Phil.....you're a LOT smarter than that.

I'm talking about this race in particular, no need to do anything stupid and get the horse in trouble before the big one. Hell I could have rode him to victory in half his races

I believe his assessment is correct for this particular race though...

I like Phil's backhanded compliment for Albarado's ride today. I interpreted it as "He didn't screw up and get checked three times by being cute like he does so often"

Coach Pants 02-28-2008 09:11 PM

Yeah Robbie should be commended for not getting the horse in trouble...

This is pointed out because the jockey colony in the states is that bad.

To me jockeys are like referees... the less you hear about them, the better. I honestly believe you can count the number of "good" jockeys on one hand right now (Prado, Corny Velasquez, Gomez, ??)
