I'd guess AGS goes to the Brooklyn and Lawyer Ron to the Woodward and they both go to the BC Classic from there. Pletcher seems intent on giving no thought to any historically significant races late in the racing season in his quest to bring every horse into the BC "fresh".

Sniper,
I'm not sure what races out there have more historical significance than the Woodward unless it's the JCGC. I agree, though, it's a shame that what used to be the Fall Championship Series has been reduced to a couple of prep races. Hell, the Marlboro is gone. Alas, I lament.

Not dismissing the historical significance of the Woodward. More upset at the attitude that running in the Woodward and then the JCGC four weeks later is some sort of impossible task and will have your horse burnt out for the BC Classic. I hope Pletcher goes 0 for the BC again if he keeps up these training practices. It sounds like he barely wants any horses going into the BC off a race 4 weeks out.

In theory the Breeders Cup is a fine idea, but it sure does take away some excitement during the fall season. And to think that trainers view the JCGC, Woodward and Pacific Classic as "preps" is enough to make me ill.

The real problem is the Eclipse Award voters. As long as they keep giving the BC so much significance in their voting and rewarding four race campaigns with Eclipse Awards the BC is going to continue to cannibilize the racing calendar. Every divisional honor should be determined by points and only HOY should be determined by votes. Your top 6 races should count for points so you don't have a horse winning an award for getting so many points from thirteen 3rd place finishes. The BC races could count as double a G1 to maintain their importance.

I sure do agree that a horse should earn HOY by racing and earning points and then combine that point total with the number of votes. However, when breeding operations pay million of dollars for a horse with just 1 Grade I win then everything else seems arbitrary.

That shopton lane is a nice horse. I would like to claim him and give him back to Joe Woodard. Then we could really see how good he is.

The Bid 08-07-2007 04:59 PM

Whatever they did since the claim seems to have worked. The horse was running 40's prior to the claim. Hes undefeated as a 3yo. All defeats came as a 2yo

Go to Bloodhorse and read the chat with M. Moss. She thinks he is a stakes horse. If I would of remember reading that, I would of bet a little more on him Sunday.

CoronadosQuest 08-07-2007 05:16 PM

They lowered Any Given Saturday's BSF to a 113, so now he is co-highest BSF for a 3yo with Idiot Proof.

The Bid 08-07-2007 05:26 PM

He always has been VJ. He beat UD Ghetto when he was a good horse, right before the KY Cup Juvy. Hes always been a talented horse, what he was doing in for 50 maiden, and 302l we may never know
