Thanks! One of my favourite things about going down to Christchurch is how easy it is to get so close to the Guineas winners. I can get down there from my seat in one or two minutes. Ellerslie's just too huge to do that - especially when there's a big crowd for the major races.

Look who's back!

Yeah, excellent performance. Hope he might get a well-deserved first G1 win some time over the summer.
Here's the 1000 Guineas field... ![]() Odds: Bounding 1.70 Miss Foxwood 5 Spellbinder 6 Costa Viva 6.50 Role Model 12 Miss Mossman 41 Silhouette Noire 60 Rachel Rafter 80 |
I know there are three other very good fillies in this race, and I know that saying this could make me look really dumb, but I really think the only question here is how far Bounding wins by. And I can't wait to see it.
|
Another really fun trip to Christchurch. I've loved it. But I can't figure out how I feel about that dramatic 1000 Guineas. Bounding unlucky? Or was Costa too good today? I'll have to watch the replay when I get home.
|
I just watched the replay and was wondering... what did the announcer mean when he implied that there had been some delay to the start?
Great race and wow what a nice (and surprising!) win! Hope you had a lot of fun. :) My pick was Spellbinder... love Bounding and she is fantastic but I would have played Spellbinder on top had I been there (or posted in time). I hope you have a photo or two you don't mind sharing! |
The delay was a bit scary! Bounding lashed out in her gate and got her leg stuck. They took a while to get her out of her gate, then the vet had to make sure she was OK to run.
No photos this time, unfortunately. It was a really hot day, and they were already taking Costa Viva away for a drink and a shower by the time I made it to the winners' circle. |
Wow that sounds scary! Glad she was okay and that you had fun.
Whats up for the weekend? Anything good? |
The G2 Auckland Breeders' Stakes, which looks like being a really strong field - Final Touch, Lady Kipling, Diademe, Miss Pelear, Waterford. And the G2 Counties Cup, with More Than Sacred and a few other nice horses in it.
Also, today was a big day - the first stage of entries for this race: http://www.nzracing.co.nz/RaceInfo/4...-Overview.aspx I've heard of maybe a quarter of those! Can't wait to meet the others over the next few weeks and months. :) |

Ed... I am really confused... Time Keeper as in THE Time Keeper... Easter H. winning Time Keeper... that one....(???)... HE is running tomorrow (r7 Rangitikei R.C. @ Awapuni)? |
Whoa, yes! I hadn't noticed.
Pinzaara ran so great. Really proud of her, as always. :) |
Oh my God ed she was really so good today and that was a tough field. VERY nice run. :)
Pus$y Willow... I was surprised at that run. Any word on Xquisit? A shame seeing her pull up. Congrats to you. Hope your girl wins next time but wow, in the meantime 3rd to Queens Rose is pretty damned impressive! |
I was looking at the race The Filly is in (r9) and noticed this...
Huh? Sequin [ex Huffer](6m Pins (AUS) - Glitzy) Why did they change her name? I like this one better but she'll always be Huffer to me! :D |
Oh, it's changed again? She was named Sequin originally, but there was a radio promotion with temporary ownership, and that included changing her name. I guess that's over now!
Not sure about Xquisit. Hope she's ok. Bit worried - didn't look good. Final Touch was so fabulous in the G2 Breeders S just now. Amazing mare. |
She won? Oh yea I can't wait to see the replay.
Stupid moment of the night.... was confusing Ms. Willow with Ms. Pus$y O'Reilly. Duh! Time Keepers trainer is listed as Floyd Mullineaux. I don't know this name. Should I? Again fabulous 3rd by Pinzaara. I am just thrilled for you. Never knew that about Huffer (although I had once seen a picture of her and what seemed like a thousand owners haha!)! Thanks for that! |

Have not yet seen Annies replay but happy to see she won yesterday. Ed, where is Mufhasa? Any news? |
He's running in the G1 Captain Cook on December 7. That looks like being a superb field - Mufhasa, Final Touch, Survived, Shuka, Zennista, possibly Veyron, Lady Kipling...
Awful about Xquisit. :( |
Thanks for that, ed.
I just read about Veyron on the Informant... "He’s had 10 days work but he’s not right so he’s out,” said Laing. “I’m not prepared to take any risks with him after everything he has done for us.” Will miss seeing him for the rest of the year but am very glad he is so well taken care of. :) Anything good this coming weekend? |

Nice field (with Fritzy Boy) on Friday. Can't wait! |
Oh! That was such a good race and wow Fritzy Boy... what a nice 3rd. Cheers to Eight Shillings and to the winner, Barbaric. :)
The Hombre needs another one or two back and then they all better watch out! :D |
Great couple of days of racing! That race was awesome, and we saw a couple of nice fillies win 3yo stakes races - Lucia Valentina and Rising Romance. And Lady Kipling deserved her G3 win today. Another 2nd for Postman's Daughter!
|
I didn't realize Lady Kipling won! :)
|
Good luck to Pinzaara on Saturday!!!
You will be there, right? |
Yep, I'm here at Ellerslie! Good day so far. Can't wait for Pinzaara, and the Concorde should be good too. Also looking forward to the Captain Cook at Trentham. Hope Final Touch can repeat!
|

Hope she wins and yes, the Concorde looks really nice and as far as the Captain Cook I will honestly be thrilled for whoever wins cause wow that's a fantastic field! They're all so good! Go, Pinzaara!!! So excited for you! :) |
Pinzaara did it!

CONGRATS!!!!! SO happy for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really, I am overjoyed and thrilled you were there in person. Post a picture when and if you can! |
Wasn't able to take any photos myself, but found some. I'll post them soon. :) Still so happy and proud.
In other news, Shuka won his first G1! He really deserved that. |
Wow, ed... I just watched both replays a couple of times each and Pinzaara... that was just so great to see and I love how the race caller (who I love and whose name I can never seem to remember) (sorry!) talked about her well-deserved win. :)
I did realize Sam had been hurt in the one before. Any news? I do hope she's okay. Nice ride by Ms. Collett. Shuka? Wow that was great to see too and what? First G1 for Danielle? Really? Nice that they won it together and yeah I know he's had a lot of different jocks up but she's ridden him quite a few times (I think!). Final Touch IS okay, right? Noel knew she had had enough and didn't push her, right? Cheers to Brave Centaur for his very nice run. I can't wait to see the pics of your girl! |
The caller is George Simon. He is awesome.
Sam has a fractured cheekbone. But she won't be out of action for long, apparently! Final Touch got kicked by another horse and had a "laceration to her right front leg". But she'll be OK too. |

What's next for her and how's Archie doing? |
Archie's still enjoying a break - apparently strengthening up nicely. Can't wait until he makes his debut!
Pinzaara's being entered for the Newmarket Handicap at Ellerslie on Boxing Day! Huge step up, but I'm sure she'll try her hardest again. |
Great news! How exciting! :)
|
So happy to see The Hombre :{>: news on the front of the Informant but come on..... they really couldn't use a picture of him where he's not behind another horse?
Ah well. :D http://www.theinformant.co.nz/ |
Haha. Looking forward to seeing him again! Kind of hoping Pinzaara beats him in the Newmarket, though! :D
In other news, the hype horse Lifeline Express made his debut at Matamata today. He was 13-1 third favourite for the Derby, even though he'd never raced! But he won brilliantly, and now he's Derby second favourite at 8-1. |
