If you can watch players like Jordan, Wade, etc. get away with flagrant rule breaking and not say it's rigged, you are idiotic.

That Kings/Lakers game was a joke. The biggest joke I've ever seen in the NBA. I don't have any doubts that things were not on the up and up there. But I also think that this was the referees doing, not the league. Do you realize how many people have to be involved in the league fixing games? Do you realize how many people have to remain silent to let them get away with it? I have serious doubts that they could get a guy like Kobe Bryant or Kevin Durant or LeBron James or Kevin Garnett to go along with their plans and agree to lose games on purpose. Guys aren't making $200k anymore. They are making millions and millions. You can't pay them enough to have them go along with it. And again, if Harden is giving OKC anything at all, they are winning this series. This despite whatever you might think of the refereeing. Harden was 2-10. That had nothing to do with the refs. Westbrook committed that silly foul with 13.8 left. Nothing to do with the refs. OKC is losing because they've failed to make the key plays. Period.

Refs might suck and they might favor stars -- but other than that -- the game is on the square.

If it wasn't ... why aren't you cleaning up and making a fortune betting on the winner of these obviously fixed series?

If OKC goes on to win the next 3 this will be one of the best played out fixes in world history I must say!! I still say it's absolutely possible too. After seeing the first 4 games I still think OKC can win one in Miami.

I am not counting OKC out yet either. The games have been too close and a single play here or there could have changed the outcomes. Could it be fixed? Yes it could be. James Harden could be in deep with the mob or someone and not be giving it his best to win. Or like I said earlier, it would maybe explain why Brooks is giving Fisher so much time and using some of the rotations he is. But the league is not the ones doing the fixing. It would involve too many people and too much money and there's no way that anything that large would have been able to stay this quiet for this long. None.

I never said the players are in on it, at all. I can see why you might think I implied that though. It's the officiating, plain and simple. Just use your eyes and don't be afraid of the implications of what you are seeing. It can liberate you.

An interesting note about refs. A friend of mine here says that something like five current or recent NBA refs all went to this one high school in the Philly area.

How weird is that?

Because I'm not betting them.

You really should have learned to read actual words and not imagined words.

So, just to be straight on things, the refs got together before game 6 of the 2002 Lakers/Kings series and decided to bet a bunch of cash on the Lakers? The league office was in no way involved??????

I don't see how someone can watch that game and think that.

Or those nonsensical technical fouls against Boston against Miami, as shown in that video above. I hate the Celtics, so it's not some regional bias I have.

King Glorious 06-20-2012 05:15 PM

When I was a kid, I used to watch wrestling. I thought it was all real. As I got older and realized it wasn't, I completely lost interest and haven't watched a match in over 30 years. I guess I don't understand the logic in believing/knowing something is fixed and still watching it or wagering on it. To me, that seems kinda stupid.

Calzone Lord 06-20-2012 05:24 PM

The best basketball player on my high school team -- and class valedictorian just wrote an essay about the series on Facebook:

I'm going to tell him he's wasting his time watching these games -- and that he need only scan the boxscore for two minutes to know what really happened.

Quote:

Thoughts on the finals:
- Westbrook is never going to be a pure point guard, but I think that is okay. He just needs to get slightly better at two things…getting the ball up the sideline with a pass to open wing threats (Durant & harden) vs. dribbling to the top of the key AND getting a sense of what he needs to do to get his guys going (again, Durant & Harden). I don’t know if anyone plays harder than Westbrook…he gives an Iverson-esque effort every night. He is fearless, he will try to dunk on any/every one, and he will not leave anything in the tank (eh…maybe he does, it seems like his tank might not ever run out).
- Lebron is proving his status as best player in the NBA, he does whatever he wants (except for hitting 18”+ jump shots consistently) he rebounds better than anyone else on the court regardless of size (the only reason he doesn’t have more is because he often guards perimeter players and has to get back on D instead of crashing the offensive glass…if he was a PF/C he would probably be 12-15 RPG guy over a whole season). He gets away with a lot on defense, he is very physical and the officials have really let him get away with it for the most part. If you think about it though, he is a few missed calls/Thunder shots away from being the fall guy again, he took a bad 3 at the end of game 2, he missed a foul shot and a 15 footer late in game 3, and had the game been closer when he went out with cramps…he could have been the “bad guy” again. Overall he has been fantastic, but his late game decision making still doesn’t seem to be there and he is shooting under 40% from the field in 4th quarters.
- When did Dwayne Wade become arrogant and condescending? I liked him better when he was an underdog who played hard and didn’t say much. He is also potentially the best 6’4” shot blocker of all time.
- James Harden is SHOOK…They need to do a Dateline special on his disappearance. I hope he turns the corner, but…yikes. He was afraid to shoot in the 4th quarter of game 4, he was hesitant, he didn’t dunk a fast break lay-up that he should have (which he missed), he’s had some really bad turnovers, and he just isn’t himself.
- The Thunder is one of the worst box-out teams of all time. NO ONE (except Nick Collison) boxes out. The look like a bad high school team on the defensive boards. No one goes after the ball, and one Heat player gets a rebound in the middle of 4 Thunder players. As a coach I would rather have 5 guys run into each other trying to get the ball than have no one go after it.
- Right now Shane Battier should be a strong candidate for Finals MVP. He does so many little things right during the game that go unnoticed. He very rarely makes mistakes. He deflects balls, takes charges, blocks shots, always gets a hand up, boxes out, rebounds, makes the extra pass, tips the ball to teammates, knows the time/score/situation, it’s awesome to watch…a coach’s wet dream. Add to that the 65% 3-point shooting and he is impossible to not have on the court. Every high school and college player should watch and re-watch these games with a spotlight on Battier.
- The Thunder have a Battier, his name is Nick Collison. He is slightly bigger, slightly slower Battier that isn’t quite as good of a shooter. He does everything that Battier does and just has an awesome positive impact while he is in. As long match-up problems allow him to be in the game, he should play 30+ minutes a game.
- The Thunder’s half-court offense is awful with their start 5 in the game. In the open court it is fine, but they run no sets when those 5 are in. Largely, this is due to having 3 guys (Thabo, Perk, and Ibaka) that are extremely limited offensive threats. I love the way Scott Brooks stands by his players, but they picked up Perk to battle Bynum/Gasol, Boozer/Noah, and Dwight Howard. He isn’t a great fit for this series. That said, Perkins hasn’t been as bad as everyone says. He is their best offensive rebounder, and those 2nd chances he generates are very important.
- Durant has been very good (probably not great, but very good). I think he has performed as expected. I think people want him to shoot a little more in the 4th quarter. Maybe so. He definitely needs to get stronger. His goal should be a Kevin Garnet-like physique.
- The officiating seems to favor Miami so far. A lot of 50-50 calls have gone their way. They have had 9 less fouls called on them in their 4 wins. Foul trouble has limited minutes for Durant and Harden. Westbrook goes to the basket as hard as anyone, but does not get the calls like Wade gets. How did Westbrook only shoot 3 free throws in game 4? Seriously? The refs aren’t the only thing that has put the Heat up 3-1, but it certainly hasn’t hurt. The message is clear, you can’t touch Wade or Lebron on a drive.
- I HATE the unwritten rule that if a defender leaves his feet on a shot fake, regardless if he is contorting his body to get as far away from the offensive player as possible, all the offensive player has to do is lower their shoulder and barrel into the defender and they get to shoot free throws. It is awful. It should be an offensive foul. What a dumb call.
- You beat the heat by defending in transition, making Wade/Lebron shoot jump shots, and not letting Miller/Battier shoot open jumpers. Easier said than done, because Miami is one of the best teams of all time in transition, but many times this series it has been Thunder laziness in not getting back.
- Ibaka wants to block everything, Derek Fisher’s decision to drive to the hoop on 2 Heat players on that Lebron turnover in the 4th quarter was potentially the worst decision of the game.
- The foul by Westbrook wasn’t the smartest move, but neither was Harden’s foul in game 3. Also, If harden just let go of the ball rather than tying up Battier, the shot clock would have expired (it was at 0.8). Even if Westbrook doesn’t foul, the Heat need to miss a shot, the Thunder needed to hit a 3, then the Thunder would have to stop the heat.

Good for Lebron. He's always been a great player, but he finally completed the job of winning a title. He was terrific the entire post season and I have no problem admitting he proved me wrong this year.

Can't help but love Durant and Westbrook's game. They are close, real close. I'm with you guys criticizing Brooks this series. I've been less than impressed.

Congratulations to all of the original Miami Heat fans. LeBron played great but is still a douchebag. Shake hands, punk. "It's about damn time"

Classy. Go f.uck yourself, you cro-magnon mutant freak.

He has several factual errors in that post. The easiest one is saying there was only 0.8 on the shot clock. It reset to 5.0 once the Heat got possession.

Well next season lets hope the West can produce a team that can beat the Oklahoma City Sprinkles. I've seen enough of that team for a good 3 years.

I know right? Just think your team has the potential to top the Buffalo Bills.

Sure, but I don't think that is going to happen. As long as we aren't the Raptors or Clippers, I'm good with that.

Shake hands? I thought I saw him hugging OKC players and coaches.

Wade is much more a punk than LBJ.

No one in the West can beat that team.
Lets just say Dallas somehow brings in Williams and Howard.... They still cant beat OKC.

yeah lebron hugged all the OKC players and talked to them for a little while. He was embracing Durant and talking to him as the clock hit zero.

OKC is built pretty well to handle those guys, but with Dirk too, it would be tough. Dirk isn't young though, not sure how many years he has left.

Damn Coach, do you even remotely care about the facts or does your hatred of well...most everything completely blind you? James was the personification of class throughout the playoffs and hugged the entire Thunder team after the game ended. He has grown a lot these last two years and only a blind hater can be critical of his play in the finals AND his conduct!

Coach Pants 06-22-2012 04:23 PM

Shut up sissy. No one cares about your effeminate opinion and hero worship.

I hope the guy blows his acl next year. I'm sick of watching grown men worship imbeciles with athletic talent.

King Glorious 06-22-2012 04:26 PM

A hug and words of encouragement and congratulations are overrated, especially if your hate colored glasses don't see it. It's either shake hands or be condemned. Of course, had he shaken hands, we'd be hearing how he's the worst person in the world for not sending flowers and candy.

Yes because hugging is less like flowers and candy than a handshake. It's not humiliating at all to get hugged by the victor.

Oh yeah you're so above being a hater. Calling me a hater and hoping BLack Caviar loses.

You poor oppressed, hedging fan boy. Boo hoo you gigantic vagina.

But if she wins, I'll give her her due credit. I won't wish for a shattered cannonbone next race. Poor guy.
